If you or someone you know has a great model railroad to share, by all means please let us know. Not everyone has proficient internet skills as many of us have. Share the hobby!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT IDEA IN PLAN WITH THE BUILD LAYOUT
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE VIDEO
I think you both made the right choice. It extends the layout but doesn’t block the hallway and the closet. Imagine if you went across the hallway, you would have to remove the extension every time one of you wanted to pass.
Exactly! Although I'd love to do a complete around the walls.
nice addition ...
I love the way the mind of a Model Railroader works! Always looking for additional real estate to improve their layouts. You are no exception. Great video! Keep up the good work Thanks, Russ from Oregon.
You are the King of recycling. Recycled track, recycled switches, recycled foam, and now a recycled cart! Cool beans.
Shipping boxes for helix kits as well. Doreen's online purchases provide a wide variety!
That's a good thing you consulted with the boss, I like where you going with this 👍👍
Overall……. It’s a nice plan . I think 🤔 that you busy for awhile!!
I like scenario 1 too. The cove can be part of the river the tracks cross later. Just imagination. Great videos!
You just don't sleep do you?!?!?! The B&O ended in Richwood at the lumber drying yard.....Looks like your extension!!!
👍👍👍
Nice addition. I would do a sawmill with a log pond?
Doreen knows best...One of the more unique industries the WM serviced was Kingsford. Use that short siding to hold the inbound wood racks and the longer tracks for the boxcars for charcoal...a few beehive ovens and you're in business. Or steal the Koppers plant from the B & O at Green Spring...you'd only have to laser about 10,000 ties. I don't think Doreen would appreciate the creosote smell...
That's funny because I do have Kingsford in mind for somewhere on the layout. We pass by that plant in Parson every weekend on our way out to Elkins.
Love the idea of extension, more opportunities for switching, I know run 4 axle locomotives and short cars what is the radius of the curve? Thanks!
That curve sitting on there from the old layout is about 25.5 which ran just fine. Tight, sure, but non of the equipment had problems. I used that piece as a template for the permanent track that in on the blue foam. The inner track which would be cut and end up as an industry is actually slightly wide in radius, but is I used that, the curve would extend further into the penninsula.
Curious as to how do you attach your foam to the frame? Do you glue and screw or just screw it down? What is the flex factor long term on your method?
Foam is glued down with wood glue or construction adhesive. A couple of screws just to keep in in position while drying. I have cross supports underneath.
😊
Personally I think you should make the Old Run around not an industry make it a passing siding so you don’t need a transfer table
Now that I have that peninsula, I may do a fold up section that actually has a turnout on it. That or another yet shorter module.
And pretty soon the extension is going to have an extension.
This is how it starts.
A few videos from now you’ll be going, “now if I extend this here and extend that there from the other end, I can have continuous running opportunities!”
Yeah, I can see where this is going…
LOL you got that right! If this wasn't the shop and was the basement or dedicated room, it would be around the walls.
what are the dimensions of the room ?
The length is 40 ft.
senerio 1 just looks better
