I just wanted you to know I tried this with a 3x5 card in one of my Bible journals. It worked like a charm. I wanted to try it out before I did it in my Bible. This was so easy to do.

You can use a heavy piece of paper under your blank tip ins to protect pages. Watercolor paper is good. Cut a piece and save in back of bible

Do you find that this adds bulk or could possibly ruin the spine of the bible?

Depending on how many pages you add into your Bible, it can definitely overtime add bulk to it, my previous journaling Bible was the She Reads Truth Bible, I have a flip through video of that, and you can check it out to see how it added some bulk, I added pages in that one all throughout the Bible.
Regarding the spine, I guess that would determine the quality of the Bible, if it’s a well-made Bible, it should hold good. And overtime if you are adding lots of pages to your Bible, you could always have your Bible rebound and the spine stretched to adjust to your Bible if it needed it. But that would be, after tons of pages added!
I have been doing this for a couple of years now and have never had any issues with adding pages in my Bible in regards to it, missing my Bible up.
      Hope this helps!
