the other FOOKER - Worth spending a few bucks more for the Premium Fooker MTB Pedal?

- Fooker mountain bike pedals are a popular option for budget riders wanting to get a Race Face Chester experience at a reduced cost. I've had great luck with them over the years. What many shoppers don't realize is there is another fooker available that features needle/roller bearings and only costs a few dollars more.

Fooker should give you a lifetime supply of pedals. You brought the Fooker brand to the public's attention and I'm sure you really helped their sales.
Rockbros is another great budget option. I bought my Rockbros nylon fiber pedals almost 4 years ago now. They've gone from my Aluminum Comp to my electric Axum build, never been serviced, still rotate smooth.
Kev,
Watching your channel led me to use Fookers, and I love 'em! Thanks for telling us about them! All they do is work, and I don't have to worry about them. To me, that makes them a good product!
I've got more than 3,000 miles on those Fookers, and they still work like a charm. When they bite the dust, I'll replace them with - you guessed it - more Fookers.
Thanks, again, for the Fooker heads-up! I'll give the needle-bearings a look when it's time to replace pedals.
Love your work, Kev! Keep it up!!
Thank you for answering the bearing question.
Come to Bentonville.
I noticed one thing as I was watching this video. The three Fooker pedals and the Race Face pedal all had the same KF stamping in the corner on the inner recessed part of the pedal. That pedal design could be a standard design made by one factory and all the different companies buy them and have their names put on them.
Nope. The RaceFace Chester has the embossed RF logo. The Fookers altered it to make it into the KF thing that those pedals have
The Fookers are a FAR superior product. The bearing system of the Chester is archaic. The sealed cartridge bearings in the Fookers are far and away a better design. I've used both the needle and the cartridge Fookers. They are amazing. Support better design.
I have all kinds of bikes, mountain bmx, eletric, tandem bikes. And fookers with needle bearing are what i usually buy. No complaints they grip all my shoes well even when wet.
I’ve been using the RockBros pedals with a similar design. The platform is a little larger with a couple of more pins. Price is around $30
Thanks for the comparison though. I was wondering about the difference in the needle bearings.
I bought the Raceface originally on perceived "principle". They lasted a few weeks before the igus/du bushing had failed. Paid for a rebuild kit, same thing happened. I then bought the first of 2prs of Fookers. They're both in use this day, one being 3yrs old and the other being 2yrs old. I will never recommend a pedal that uses igus/du bushings, it's as if they're know how poorly it performs, but are perfectly fine lying to the users with the marketing crap proclaiming its virtues.
Fooker will be my go-to rec for anyone lookin for solid pedals that don't break the bank.
I have had needle bearing fookers on my Axum DP since the red medium came out and have not had any issues. I just checked, and it was May of 2021.
My favorite pedals are a set of Fooker wide platform duals. Flat on one side, SPD on the other. the platform is nice and wide for using flats around town or on gravel roads, the clip is raised enough to not hit the platform like some of the Shimano combo.
These were available when I bought my fookers in 2020 for my Axum mid drive build. I went with the standard and am still happy after more than 2,000 miles, a few crashes, lots of curb grinding, and I'm 260#. Fookers are materially identical to race face Chester's, even if a prominent RUclipsr disassembled an example of each and hypothesized that the fookers must be cheaper though identical looking material.
I bought these needle bearing ones last year and so far they seem good. Seem well built and have had any problems. But I’m not hard on pedals, never broke a pair in my life.
I have cheap fookers on the full suspension and the expensive fookers on the hard tail since the pedals on the hard tail do more work.
Any forthcoming info on the new 2024 Schwinn Axums? :)
Been using Chesters for years…..I will give Fookers a try on my next pedal swap. Thanks !
Had the fooker pedals but switched to oneup and haven't looked back. The bigger platform is better, and I don't even have big feet but now the chester/fookers just feel too small.
Do they have different colors in the OneUp??
The ones with the needle bearings are the Mother Fookers.
I have both sets and my lockring on the needle bearing set started backing out and rubbed on the crank during a ride causing the pedal to get stuck. I tightened it back in and it was fine but I can't be the only one. Lesson learned, tighten that red lock ring on the axle before use.
I had fookers on two of my MTB, my latest was the mongoose ledge x1, modeled it exactly like your stage two, absolutely loved that bike after the upgrades, but unfortunately it got stolen and it was the very last one in the whole state
Ouch. Sorry to hear a good build got stolen
My wife has them on her Kona and She loves them.
I got a trek Roscoe 8 for a good deal mint condition for 600 bucks it came with race face Chester the black one same ones you have but I got orange flickers and I love them but I got the needle bearing ones instead of the three ball bearing
Myzrh are the same, they even have the RF logo on them and 2 types or bearings NB they say "bearings" but in fact they have bushings [and bearings]
i love all there stuff . those fookers just work great . i flip bikes and have sold 30 plus bikes with the fooker pedals. still have my og green fookers that are 3 years old on my china doll gas bike ( specialized epic comp with a ztmoto 85cc 2 stroke motor)! i really like the cheaper alum ones .i drill a hole in them then put a 90 degree zerk fitting in there to grease them up
Any suggestions on how to get started flipping bikes?
@@rebelfromva find them where ever you can then fix them up sell on market place and craigslist . when you list them take really good pictures you can then explain in detail all the details it . look up book value and price it to the market that your selling in .
Support your local bike shop and by composite pedals through them. Race Face, One Up, Deity, etc. plenty of choices backed by yiur local shop and a legit product warranty.
I agree that warranty is important. However, I think that beyond a certain price point, many people don't prioritize it as much. This price threshold varies for everyone. For instance, when you're comparing a $25 pedal to a $50 pedal, and the warranty doesn't include a full replacement that the bike shop can handle and get reimbursed for, it can be challenging for a consumer to see the value in that warranty.
Similarly, some of these companies operate entirely on a white-label basis. They offer a warranty, but it's quite basic. They allocate the majority of their profits to marketing themselves as an acceptable brand, much like any other brand out there. This enables them to have more visibility and presence in the market.
But open your wallet wider, cuz it’s gunna cost you.
Unfortunately, local bike shops don't carry anything with full sealed cartridge bearings. I tried and tried to find sealed bearing pedals through my LBSs and they didn't even know that all their pedals had bushings (like junk Chesters) instead of actual sealed bearings. They had to disassemble a Shimano Saint pedal to be convinced!
Race Face was first. When the Chester dropped it was a big deal. They were the first really good budget flats.
I think with a lot of brands, they are simply white-label products. Race Face might have a handful of items that they truly engineered and have patents on, but it's most likely to be very high-end things. Whereas, I think the more inexpensive and consumable products are just white labels from the factory. That's why you see so many "copies" of a lot of the same exact things throughout the industry. The majority of the products are white label.
The design of the Chester is definitely patebted by Race Face. Internally both the Chester and the Fooker are vastly different as sell. What I believe is more likely to have happened is either a company that reverse-engineered the original Chester moulding or a subcontractor of Race Face in China using the original moulding for their pedals during the night shift. ;) But believe me, using white-label components as company like RaceFace is highly unlikely and would drive away the customer base if ppl vould get the same stuff for a fraction of the cost on AliExpress.
For sure! You should see all the " copy cat " car audio speakers online. It can be exhausting .
Which many different companies buy from the same Asian suppliers, and then put their logo on it and charge triple the price just for the name.
@@BobcatspiritdudeThe same goes for many home appliances. They just have different logos.
Are one of those bikes, you will be reviewing, the Schwinn axum Comp X... Now with boost rear spacing!?
Hmmm 🤔. Interesting. Thanks for sharing this with us
Looking forward to the new videos,Kev!
boy sure would be nice to have a bicycle review , how long has it been ? 2 months ? 3 months ? 🙂
I can’t force companies to release the bikes. I have plenty, but they’re under embargo until they say go. There are some coming. Not 2020 level releases, but still some good bikes of interest
Hello man what do you think about syncros squamish ii pedals
Fooker came first in 2018 chester in 2019
They look gooder than a motha Fooker
I might have to fook around with some fooker pedals
YES!! I was right. Kirby 😊
I need new pedals for my bike, I was looking at these Fookers but the pins look like they would tear my shoes up. Has anybody backed them out maybe halfway? I'm curious what anybody has to say about the traction pins.
i just wish fooker made a tan pedal. i ended up spending almost $60 on some tan composite pedals. I justify the price because fyxation bikes is actually a local company and i want to support them.
Oddly enough….i was wishing the same thing while pedal shopping earlier this week. I ended up getting the red
If you can get the grease off them, both krylon and rust-oleum sell spray paints that work well on plastic. It'd be an interesting experiment, anyway.
@@Sylvan_dB i've actually had luck with dying some silicone and rubber handlebar grips tan. I used rit dyemore dye. Supposedly it works for plastic too but as you mentioned I'd have to get all the grease off the pedal and I'd probably have to take out the pedal spindle. It might be worth a try maybe buying a pair of the yellow fooker pedals and trying to dye them since thats the lightest color they have.
@@KevCentral i've only found 4 companies that make tan composite pedals, fyxation (Mesa MP Moab Orange, it's actually tan), PDX (although honestly they look a little bit maroon in real life), Burgtec, and Ximeng. SDG also makes some but it's a REALLY light tan.
Fooker should introduce an aluminum pedal
The Fooker with the needle bearings are $17.99 , ball bearing one is $22.99.
Current pricing is 3-bearing $22.94, needle bearing $24.64
@@KevCentral Amazon has a blue one for 17.99
Pricing changes often.
Dear Mr Central.... You shouldn't leave your bikes outside. Thank you sir.
That’s for a reason - I’m constantly doing tests of one type or another
Maybe both made in the same factory.
Fookers aren't the cheaper option here in Canada. On Amazon Canada it's anywhere from $38-$70 for Fooker pedals. I just purchased RaceFace Chester pedals for $49 Cdn. They have a lifetime warranty. In my case, RaceFace was the cheaper option.
Wow
@@KevCentral yeah the mark up is insane here in Canada. Even if the RF pedals weren't on sale, I still would've gone with them for the same price as the Fookers.
Just buy the chesters man! SUPPORT the real bike companies not the shady ones….My buddy broke his face ridin THESE EXACT knockoffs. One snapped right off at the crank arm off a 3 foot jump. Knockoffs may be a bit cheaper but they are dangerous and not tested and your risking your life. Thats the truth.❤✌️
How'd u get that Kirby so minty fresh ?
I've been using these for months so far and they are extremely sturdy and grippy. There not showing any signs of breaking. I honestly recommend them just because not everyone has the money to buy raceface chesters.
@@Gerttie82 I did some price comparison and for $5-10 more one can get the real deal. I like the fact that Fooker are so inexpensive with sealed cartridge bearings.
I've been riding 3 bearing Fookers for more than 2 years. I jump our local 25 ft tables all the time. I've used both Chesters and Fookers. The Fookers are just much better engineered. Even if they were the same price, I'd buy the Fookers every time.

Good Video 👍
Restoring old Vacuums?
It’s the latest model, but a used one. I took it apart to clean it and to polish the aluminum
RaceFace came first. You can tell by the stamp at 0:36 that the Fooker is a copy since the lettering in the pedal is slightly modified of the "RF" on the RaceFace version. I have a pair I bought when I first started MTBing (shame on me) but never will I buy stuff from companies who steal from honest companies.
this is the truth. Dont support scummy companies. They could've at least made it their own instead of a blatant rep.
The Other Fooker starring Ben Stiller!
😂
What the F! Why are the Race Face rusting? Should've used stainless steel?
I was shocked to see them rust so fast too
Is it a polygon xtrada 7?
No. It’s a big box bike
Fook Yeahhhhh ❤
To each there own but I'll always just ride the real race face not the fakes I like race face as a brand and want to give Them my money not some unknown knockoff
Fookers are RF Chester's. We are budget minded folks now.
Pretty close, IMO
@@KevCentral the fookers have the RF stamped on them.
The stamping looks similar, but it’s not the RF stamping
@@KevCentral ok. Looks so close.
Still wouldn’t trust them over my One Up composite pedals, I primarily ride black trails with drops and jumps and never had a problem with cartridge bearings and I 43 and have been riding for years
One up composite pedals don't have cartridge main bearings. They have bushings for main bearings. Fooker 3 bearings don't use bushings at all, only cartridge bearings. I'll never understand why people are satisfied with bushings in their pedals but would gag at the thought of using bushings for their bottom bracket, head set or wheels. Give that some real thought.
I said nothing about bearings, I just like using trusted parts , the pedal pins on my One Up pedals for not rust out like cheap pedals like fooker , I had fooker and tbh Raceface chester are garbage flat pedals, another reason I would use One Up over cheap Fooker pedals
@@northwestmountainbikeaddic6874 You wrote: "I primarily ride black trails with drops and jumps and never had a problem with cartridge bearings..." Maybe you meant something else?
@@onlysendsmtbActually your wrong One Up Composite pedals, Do Use Cartridge Bearings, maybe check your info first?
@@northwestmountainbikeaddic6874 @northwestmountainbikeaddic6874 The main "bearing" (as I clearly wrote) is a bushing. They have a cartridge bearing too, but the main bearing as I said is a bushing. I didn't say they don't have a cartridge bearing. That yellow or white sleeve looking thing in the rebuild kit is a bushing.
what about DU
DU?

Bike goat.
Say, that's a lot of Fookers.
Why buy Race Face Chester? Because I cannot tell my mother about the Fooker pedals on my bike! She's a bit hard of hearing see, and she just wouldn't appreciate the nuanced language.
Who am I kidding... $10 or even just $2 cheaper? I'm in, as for my use it is never going to matter.
Pls just buy Chesters ❤😊
I found a rebuild kit in stock for $16 immediately after googling
they are pedals. theyre all copies
