My 1 year old nearly 2 loves this harvest video and falls asleep watching it but fights it so hard because he can’t take his eyes off the tractors and farm equipment.
Very nice machine. I remember the old two row head we used when I was young. Got a four row and really thought we were something special. Farming has come a long way.
16 rows at a time, and we thought we were living large when we got a three row corn picker for our JD70. Even with the hopper extensions, the hopper will fill up real fast, it takes a big wagon to keep up with that!
These videos are excellent & a pleasure watching with a great narrator. Long ago I grew up on a New England farm (corn, potatoes, dairy, maple syrup, timber, saw mill) with old John Deere equipment (example: one big cylinder diesel tractor with iron-spiked wheels for Spring/wet work). So, this brings back memories in a much bigger way. (Farm still here for haying-only) Thanks.

Just curious here, but is there a pronounced advantage of having a tracked combine over a wheeled one, other than perhaps being better able to navigate marshy ground? The tracked tractors definitely seem to have a significant advantage for traction and pulling power, as evidenced by the tug-of-war vids.
It still is. We run a 9500 in 180bu corn in 2019...It's the average yields that have been going up so quickly in the last 10 years. Our combine makes crazy noises after 220 bu an acre. This combine uses more fuel in a day then our combine, tractor/cart and 2 semi use in a day. Yet this combine is absolutely necessary in big operation with a small harvest window. Great vid.
Here is a question you probably never been asked. I used to go to our local feed store back in the day (been closed). The owner would buy shelled corn used to mill it up for corn meal for human consumption. It was not ground fairly coarse so the coin meal would stick together if you squeezed a handful in your hand. If I find a feed store and wanted to buy some shelled corn to make corn meal what would I ask for?
Buy regular corn from the farmer. Put it on as many cookie sheets as you can in your oven and bake at 110 for 40 min. Should be dried enough that grinding will be easy.
You can tilt the feederhouse to the left or right, depending on the terrain flow. I know with a lot of these machines, usually it is tilted to one side or the other slightly to keep the head level.
It may also be that one cylinder is lifting a little faster than the other for no particular reason, or the wheels can be slightly uneven but once it gets in the cut they even out.
Hey that funny we have Maize Flakes. Just joking they are corn flakes here too. It is interesting how terminology changes like plowing and ploughing or windshield and windscreen.
It's more a function of how far they have to haul the grain and how long to unload. A small combine can keep several trucks busy if the drive is long enough.
Like someone said depending on the drive time and how long they have to wait at the least it keeps the equipment running and not having to wait for trucks
Most grain "carts" are not propelled. The rear tires on some combines are powered -- if they have tractor treads they are powered, if they have straight treads then they probably are not.
I love this stuff when I was a girl my daddy would put me on his seat of 🚜 . he was a small man and he'd let me put my hands on that old 🚜 Steering wheel and I thought I was driving it. Was the greatest thing in the world to me. Scrawny little muppet blonde tomboy one of the boys. The camaraderie That men share is wonderful. There are several factors to consider. At harvest time the name of game is getting the crop harvested as fast possible to avoid weather delays and crop damage from weather. Running bigger and wider gets the job done. This combine can do the job of two combines which means less drivers and less up keep. This farm practices controlled traffic farming where every machine from tillage to planting to harvesting places it’s tracks on the same spot which reduces compaction of the soil in the field and increases yields. This combine is a good investment for the farm to get the job done.
There are really not too many weeds. Maybe in a low spot or on the edge. They just get cut and dropped under the header. Very little other than the ear or corn goes into the combine.
Great video. Beg to differ over the tracks ! Different layout and shape to the JD standard tracks that are triangular in shape compared with these ones.

How does he line up at the beginning of a pass? It seems like it would be hard to line up properly with the edge row being 20 feet away. I've only run old 6 and 4 row combines. Is there a camera out there on the head or something?
They count the rows and look for the gap between the planter pass. They also use gps to guide the combine. This farm runs all passes at 40ft to reduce and contain compaction. So the strip till bar, planter and combine all make the same 40ft pass through the season.
A class 9 and a 16 row head would be good for 2,500 acres of corn and up. Farms here in Western Kentucky tend to have one combine for each 3,500 to 3,000 acres of corn. Here winter wheat follows corn so it is important to get it harvested fast to seed the next crop before cold weather sets in.
Outstanding. My 18-month old grandson has watched this several times; he never tires of it, and when the header is shown finishing the 40-foot swath, he is just thrilled. Thank you!

Very interesting. Would you need these giant machines for a 40 acre farm? What's the smallest width of header for this purpose?
I think this is a 40 acre field not farm because no farm can stay afloat with just 40 acres
The grain cart tracks, are they pto-powered, or is the trailer only dragged along by the drawbar.
The children are fast
*But the combine is faster*
What is the life of the tracks, on both of , and cost
Does these machines separate the ears of corn from the starks
Do the tracks on the tractor & combine turn shorter than wheels or wider for fear of throwing a track?
usually wider since u can tear or throw the track right off on the grain cart, it generally does not matter for the Combine
Thanks for the reply.
I'd be keen to know how those tracks are in a combine, i have them on my NH T9.615 and it's rough as all hell.
I am no farmer but I can't imagine the profit margin is great with this high dollar equipment?
There are several factors to consider. At harvest time the name of game is getting the crop harvested as fast possible to avoid weather delays and crop damage from weather. There are really not too many weeds. Maybe in a low spot or on the edge. They just get cut and dropped under the header. Very little other than the ear or corn goes into the combine.

oh wow, that machinery just blew my mind!!!

I like your videos! How much does a 690 cost, with a standard 30 foot header? Around 450-500k ?

How many acres per hour does this machine do typically?
I am not sure per hour but it can cover over 150 acres a day.
A 40 foot header traveling 5 mph will cover 24 acres per hour.
