New BSA Gold Star 650 - First Ride - The Wait Is Over - Colchester Kawasaki - BSA

- At last the wait was over. It’s a year since BSA launched the new BSA Gold Star. The delays caused some people to become suspicious of it and a certain amount of negativity resulted. So how was it, we’ll watch the video and see if you can guess my thoughts on it.

I loved your review and can't believe why you aren't a 200K channel already... I'm sure you'll get there and beyond with this quality content. Kudos 👍
Many thanks for your lovely comment 😊 it is really appreciated 😊 I think manufacturers believe their products need to be presented in a very serious and technical manner. As you can see, I don’t 😂😂😂 I think they need to fun and honest 😊
Reading the comments, they reflect my thoughts exactly! Living in the US, not sure when/if they will get the BSA Gold Star here, I find a simple British single to be the ultimate in nostalgia...going back into another time when riders just enjoyed a nice ride out in the country side, people looking at your bike as your ride by! Your review on the BSA Gold Star was the best I have seen, based on the lovely expression of what it is like to ride. Instead of criticizing and nitpicking, the real test is the sniff test - DOES IT PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE! Yep, if we wanted graphs, specs, etc. and only wanted to drive a car, that is what the other test rides reflect, while you get it spot on - how does it feel while riding it! Thanks for the enjoyable 30 minutes of review, nice video edited perfectly along with the story of riding the BSA!
Thank you so much for an amazing comment. You seem to get exactly what I am trying to achieve😊 thank you
It's owned by an Indian company, Mahindra.
I love your unique style of reviewing motorcycles. In my opinion, forget about what badge is on it, just judge the bike by the way it Makes you feel. Who cares what badge is on it.
Absolutely 😊 thank you. That’s exactly my view.
Thanks Mr. TAYM,you brought a chuckle to my face!Ive never heard you this excited.👍🏍
Thank you 😊 I know I was fit to burst 💥 😂😂😂
This is exactly the kind of content that your channel needed. I bet you, that the number of views you will get, will be through the roof.
Well done , a great review and quite a good weekend mutter.
Tanks.
Thank you 😊 I don’t chase numbers, which is just as well given that I am such an acquired taste and sense of humour 😊😂😂
Your enthusiasm is infectious...great review. Thank you. Agree with others, watch this channel grow....
You are very kind 😊 thank you 😊
I'm so pleased that it wasn't a disappointment.
Me too, I had a horrid thought that it was going to be lacking but so pleased it wasn’t 😊
I’ve just stumbled across your channel and just love your review! If we all had more of an attitude like you have the world would be a much happier place. 👌
😊 thank you so much 😊
Ned was cool to give his thoughts and let you film him.
I really like the Gold Star 650, tons of character coming through your videos.
😂😂😂 Ned was a star 😊 thank you 😊
What a really engrossing review, I was locked into every moment, and the chap at the end topped it nicely.
I've now tested one myself, couldn't fault it at all, just like you, I couldn't stop smiling even though it was minus 4 degrees brrr.
That nice I have also purchased one, the black one did it for me , and the one I tested had the baffle removed, what a nice sound it was.
Marvellous, very nice in black 😊 very jealous, just need to find the dish my self 😊😂😂
I am understanding. As I am unable to ride right now, but your voice and excitement shows that it fits you better. I will still watch! It's your passion. I am one to hold on to what I engage in and buy. But I am divorced 2 times. So I have ridden and let it go. Understand!
The problem is I don’t want to let go of what I have got. The only one I could is the Tiger and as great as the BSA is it is not a tiger replacement 😊
Mr. TAYM, so sorry for being a late commenter, I've been so busy with the holidays and family that I missed this vid when it was first posted. It looks like a great bike and seems like it would be a perfect roadster for weekend cruises. Can't wait for it to come to the States.
BTW, one is never lost on a motorcycle, he is simply exploring.
Thank you, exactly, I am an explorer a lot f the time 😊😂😂😂 love it 😊
30 minutes of watching the new clocks pretty much , Just watched your previous review , thanks for taking us on the ride :-)
Sorry I assumed that only my regular viewers would be watching. Here is a previous video ruclips.net/video/Afpx29EAsCo/видео.html
Thank you for watching😊
in the year 1981, I got the same emotion when I was long waiting for my Yamaha 500SR. I ordered it blue and grey, so I received it red and black. I was so happy receiving; at least my big single, and the bike was worth the wait. I've been driving lot of singles. genuine BSA, full of character, enfield classic with no character, MZ skorpion very pleasant... Times are coming hard for us and uncertains. The price of the BSA, in France seems to be a wall, for me.
Marvellous comment and memories. Shame it is to be too costly. Thank you 😊
Uh-oh, Paddington just called and he's pretty worried, wants to know where you've been. Found another bike's specs sheet and pricing in your coat pocket. Now you're in trouble, Mr TAYM! Splendiferous ride, you sound mighty impressed! Nice looking bike, that one...
Paddington isn’t worried, if he was he would be writing to RE telling them to get their finger out and get me some press bikes 😂😂😂😂 seriously, he’s fine and safe😊
Congratulations on securing a test ride on such a sought after machine.
After Henry Cole’s lack of enthusiasm, and BSA’s display of “How not to” regarding marketing, this comes as a breath of fresh air.
I’m not in the market for one, but I was quite excited when I first heard of the return of the brand. There were whispers of building them in the UK. I haven’t heard any more on that front but I suppose if they’re successful enough, it’s still possible. Tough competition with RE’s twins though.
Anyway, great to see some positivity. Excellent job TAYM 👌🏼
PS. Won’t be happy until it gets approval from the giraffe 🦒
PPS. You can’t wheelie a Harley at 50 either 🤪
"Can't wheelie etc"........ 🤔 Hmmmm! How would you know that then? 🤔 😜🤫
😂😂😂 I don’t understand Henry Cole’s somewhat subdued ride on it. Thank you 😊

Been waiting a long time for a proper you tube road test, amazed TAYM got the first one! Congratulations.
Now looking forward to getting myself a ride, sounds a good bike.
It is certainly better than I had thought it might be 😊 and certainly better than Henry Cole’s ride suggested. 😊 thank you
I like Henry Cole but Henry likes old British classic bikes.
This new BSA is too modern.
Ah nice. I look forward to watching this when I get the chance.

Haha, the excitement in your voice is splendiferous and says it all 😁 ...apart from the perfect comment for me "There's been lots of negativity about it, saying it's not a BSA. Doesn't matter what it is. It's whether it's a nice bike" Thank you 😄
😊😂😂😂😂 nuff said 😂😂
👍👍👍👍...your enthusiasm is contagious
Thank you 😊
Well that was a little Saturday surprise for all your viewer's 😀. Glad that it turned out alot better than most of us thought it would. It is a shame about the centre stand though, make's life so much easier having one. You never know BSA might be that pleased with your review and how many they will sell as a result of it, that they give you a long term loan bike foc to keep on posting videos about 😀. There'll be alot of people wishing they'd waited for this review before ordering other bike's!! You were that excited you forgot to give it a name! 😅
😂😂😂 that would be nice 😂😂😂 but highly unlikely. I can’t even get a RE press bike and they have 70 or so floating about 😂😂
Yes; the lack of a centre stand would put me off buying one.. and the lack of money!
@@travisperkins100 I know the feeling 😊😂😂
I love your enthusiasm and positive attitude about the bikes. Heh, I got lost when I tested a Himalayan in New Orleans a few years back. After only a block, I was lost. Although I was never more than five or so blocks away it took me thirty minutes to find my way back with all the "No Left/Right Turn" signs and whatever. Yeah, the greens my favorite. If my garage weren't already bustin' full of bikes, I'd definitely have a good look at this one.
Thanks for the visit,
S
Thank you 😊 getting lost, muttering and riding took a lot of my tiny brain power 😊😂😂😂😂
What a great watch. That was terrific, seems very long legged with much more oomph than the 350 Classic (for example). I think that suits you perfectly and you ought to buy one!
I totally agree but with a 3/4 months lead time it would play merry hell with my ADHD and OCD 😊😂😂😂
A marvellous independent real world review on an interesting proposition. Watching your ride is the first time I have really taken any interest in it. Come spring will have to take a test ride. But it will have to be impressive to displace my Interceptor.
I need to go and have another go on the interceptor 😊 just to check 😊😂😂😂
Why not keep them both 650's

I can't wait for these to be available in India for a test ride!

Nice one TAYM, 1st actual "non bike press" review and you even beat Freddie D and Uncle Feelinglum to the drop!
It was a great review and hope it goes onto be a big success (I bet Buddy is pooping his undercrackers at the prospect of being usurped by this little upstart!)... 😱😱
Gotta say It's probably not the bike for me (although I did like the Highland Green at the NEC!), It's been too long in the waiting and I'm over all the hype now.
So I'll wait for the RE Bullet 650 in 2024 for my next slice of the retro/nostalgia cake.
Yes, they have had a bit of a marketing nightmare haven’t they 😂😂😂 I reckon its going take some coming back from to even get people to try one let alone order one with that sort of lead time.
I laughed at your excitement. Well done and thanks for your honest test ride on roads which are well suited for this bike. The exhaust sounds really good just like my R.E classic 350. I'm hoping a dealer comes to Newcastle. Saw it at the bike show and was very impressed. I hope all the people who gave it such negative criticism are proved wrong and this bike becomes a success. Thanks again for showing this video.👍👍

I've watched a few riding reviews of this and everyone loves it. It's giving me that fizzing feeling that rarely happens. It's a contender.

Excellent first impressions video Mr TAYM. I am looking forward to my ride on one next week, even more now. The radiator has to be, it does a job, my only niggle is the number plate holder is too low for my liking, but I have said that before, and will probably mention it on my ride too 😂 Does look good in that red, very A10 ish (obviously without the extra cylinder 😂). Well done you, for nailing a review so quickly 👌 Thanks for getting up early to do this 👍and your enthusiasm is so lovely. The fact that us big boys can actually still get excited by a motorcycle, says a lot for it.
Thanks Ian. I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on as an Interceptor owner. To my mind it is a cross between the 350 & interceptor. 😊
@@TAYM although I don’t really want to compare the Goldstar to anything, rather take it at face value, I guess it is inevitable that the comparisons have to be made. It will be interesting to see how the Goldstar handles on the Phantom Sports Comp tyres which I really rate. If we had been down in Cheshire this week, I may well have got in there before you 😂😂😂

Seems marvellous.
Absolutely gorgeous. I REALLY hope they're available here (in Sweden).
I understand that they are to be distributed through Peugeot Distribution, so hopefully they will. 😊
Hi I had a test ride on the same machine on Saturday the 3rd, took virtually the same route as you.
I was a bit disappointed, the engine sounded clunky, I suppose that was the counter balance shaft, once it warmed up the throttle was a bit on off on shutting down and opening up. The brakes were good and so was the handling, the seat was comfortable and in a good position, I'm 5' 10", if you are 6 foot plus you might find your knees quite bent. Mirrors we're terrible you had to move your head quite a lot to see behind you.
I have an Enfield interceptor, in comparison, the Enfield is quicker to pick up and go and sounds better and that's only got 500 miles on it. I was going to buy the BSA but got fed up waiting, after having the test ride I'm glad I picked the interceptor.
Interesting🤔 I wonder why it was so different. It was already warmed up when I got on it having just been filled up. It was probably colder at 8 o’clock then when you rode ? Could the engine have deteriorated in such a short time? How many miles were on it when you got on? Maybe Ned did too many wheelies 😂😂😂
@@TAYM it had 700+ miles on it, at 1.30 in the afternoon, it's not that I didn't enjoy it, I just thought it would have been an improvement over the Enfield interceptor. The other spoiler was a lack of a 6th gear and to not first gear was very low. Other than that it was a nice ride but in regard to pricing the interceptor feels stronger and costs less and is well proven. 👍
@@johnbrandon9430 flipping ek that was a busy bike, not much running in time! No wonder it went a bit clunky. I doubt many were as gentle as I was 😊😂😂😂 can’t argue with the feel of the interceptor 😊
I wanted this anyway, (My uncle worked as a chemist in the original BSA factory in Birmingham) I am now pricing up my kids and kidneys 🤣😂 You're review is great.
😂😂😂 don’t know how many kids you have but if you are short, I think eyes are a growing market 😊😂😂😂 thank you
Who'se a lucky boy then:) That was a real nice review and the sound and first impressions came across well. I shall keep my cash in the wallet for now but I have a feeling I shall have to hold the wallet very tightly. I love the sound and extra horses over the RE singles
😊 I know, incredible 😊 thank you. 😂😂😂
Flippin 'eck TAYM, I can understand you bubbling over with that bike. It's got a lot of knockers just now, but I prefer to wait until I've tried it, but I really hope it works. I'll get a test ride on it eventually, but I really hope it succeeds.(I think it could just make a half-decent sidecar tug, time will tell!)
'Its got the right badge', yeah, that's what matters. Thanks for bringing this to us TAYM. I'm not in the least bit jealous... honest! 👍

Interesting 🤔 I wonder why that would be. Some chrome exhausts go blueish but mainly just on the down pipes. 😊 it’s not bad is it 😊 thank you
@@TAYM no I don't think it's bad, I was just taken back, because modern retros don't seem to do that, maybe the catalytic converter is shaped along the pipes, hence the blueing.

Hi TAYM,
I'm excited you got to do a ride review of the BSA so early on. More so for you hearing the excitement in your voice! Yours is the first review I've seen on one. I appreciate that you focus on the bike and the feel you get from it over statistics and overly comparing it to other bikes out there. Some comparison is good, but most main stream reviews over do it in my mind. To each their own though.
I'm real grown an appreciation for the feel of big thumpers after having my new bike for a while.
Thank you DK 😊
Excellent stuff TAYM, you were like a kid at Christmas 🎄, it's definitely a great looking bike, congratulations on being one of the first to ride one, marvelous......

Awful review . Sounds a dim 11 year old .
I’ve been looking forward to the first review of the new BSA, with a view to trying one myself if it is any good. Great review - I think I will have a go on one now. I just need to find a dealer.
I think they have just announced more dealers 😊
Things changed in the mid 70s, by then the "Superbike" era was truly unfolding, 650 cc started to be seen increasingly, as a middle weight capacity. But as we moved to the 80s, something was lost, fun, as capacity increased. I started on a 175 cc Bantam 10 bhp, D10, then on to a 250, 750, 1000, 400, etc. However, as you go up in cc, things seem to get more serious. It's more fun riding a smaller capacity machine to the limit, than a big machine, where you can't use the capacity and power, except on occasion. Many a time you can pull over on a car park and they are all there on big capacity machines, essentially boasting rights. You are looked down on, but that's not essentially, what motorcycling was about. It was euthusiasm, fun and freedom. I love riding my 1000 cc, but for fun my 400 cc small 4s, cannot be beaten and often choose to ride them over bigger machines.
Motorcycle need power, where you can use it and thats low down and mid range giving the machine flexibility for real life, road situations. Maybe after 70 years,we have come full circle and the big 4 stroke single is going to be King of the road again! Not sure why motorcycles really, need a cat, stupid over kill, adds weight and expense.
Excellent comment and very wise words 😁 thanks Johnny 😁

Rotax engines are used in small aircraft, snowmobiles, jet skis and motorcycle brands like BMW and Aprilia. In fact, the bmw f800gt you test-road had a rotax built engine. They are in Austria. Great job on the review. I've been waiting for the BSA to come out although it probably won't be US available for quite a while. Willing to give up my Interceptor for this as I have discovered I really like the singles. Having had the Classic 350 already the BSA would be fantastic. ( Never give up my Moto Guzzi though). 😁
Now you’ve reminded me about the V7 🤔 this choosing a bike game is difficult 😊😂😂😂
Hi Joe,
Same thought here. Did ride the interceptor for a bit, The engine is great! But lacks character. Big singles are something else.
Coming from a Cast Iron 500cc Bullet and a Lightning 535cc, I have been looking for a modern bike.
(Already tried owning the UCE 500s from Royal Enfield, The Classic Stuff just felt better and more refined)
There wasnt anything else on the market until this came along and it feels like an excellent Idea!
Upside - Modern Engine, No unnecessary Stuff, and looks just great!
Downside - Besides not being available in India, Cant really think of anything right now.
Looks nice I would love to test one out. everyone seems to be comparing it to the Royal Enfield 650.
I think they are very different 😊 strange isn’t it. All I can think is it’s because it’s retro in style. Before this they compared the interceptor to the Bonnevilles 😊
Yep good test ride , thanks Andy, Paul , it’s good small bike think bsa got good product it’s bit different but that’s what sets it apart from say Enfield ,etc ….try it for yourself …

I have a RE Interceptor and a 1957 BSA B31; I can see the styling queue’s from the original B group BSA’s too.
A brilliant review, fair and informative.
I can defo see one of these BSA’s in my little stable after a test ride.
Thank you.
Neil
Ps. No it sounds nothing like the original B group singles. Not the bikes fault at all. It might sound better with the baffle removed and someone is sure to make a less restrictive exhaust for it.
Thank you very much Mr Grizzly 😊 a lovely comment and thank you for confirming the sound issue. It’s ok as is and like you say the manufacturers are a bit screwed really😊
@@TAYM I agree with you, the bike sounds fine and the good thing is you can make it louder if you want to. If I get one I doubt I’ll change anything, but I gotta try it with the baffles out, you just have to you know. 🏍👍🤪
@@mrgrizzlyrides absolutely agree 😂😂😂😂 its a must 😊
fantastic i had a bsa c 11g and i loved it this video make me jelouse realy does and makes me miss the bikes so much thanks for sharing its fantastic to watch and that sound wowwwwwwwwww
Thank you 😊
Splendiferous !!! Square brake fluid reservoir = watch piece 👍
Indeed 😊😂😂
Great review and the interview with the Harley owner at the end was a real bonus! Henry Cole’s ride of the machine really did tell us nothing!
Well he seems to know his stuff a maybe a better judge. All I can do is say how I felt on the bike😊
You obviously felt happy, placed your order yet? Thought you were going to ride home on it when you got ‘lost’!
@@lindsaysampford3190 😂😂😂 the problem is the lead time😕 I don’t buy anything I have to wait longer than a week for😊😂😂😂
GREAT review.
You are VERY natural.
10/10.
Greetings from 'OZ'. (Australia)
Thank you 😊 hope it made you smile 😊 😂😂
How exciting! A real BSA on real roads!
Unbelievable isn’t it😂😂😂
It's not real BSA
@@tomaszp614 it is now.
@@geneahart5607 sure. I play guitar, tomorrow I'll reactivate "The Doors" band. Would you buy a ticket fir my gig? It's a real "The Doors" band. It writes "The Doors" on a poster, you cannot argue unless you cannot read...
@@tomaszp614 that would only work if you can actually sing and perform. The new BSA may not be the BSA of old but it's close enough. How's your voice?
Looks like you built up a big head of steam riding this. Thanks for sharing
Oh Daddy, got on a plane and come and give it a go 😊😂😂😂
did you ask the giraffe what he thinks about it?.. great review and the first I've seen on here. Well done!... Perhaps you could do another with Mrs. TAYM on the back when it's done a few more miles. that would be splendid.
Frank refuses to travel so couldn’t ask him 😂😂 I noted on the authority form no two up 😕 which will make it difficult to know whether to buy😕😊
Well now I wasn’t going to watch this or any other videos on the Goldstar just yet, as I’ve got my name down for a test ride and I didn’t want to be influenced by what I saw. Sadly though I’ve been waiting for some time now and calls to see when I can have one are met with excuses. I think you’re spot on with your comments on the bike and I really do hope I get the chance to copy your experience soon. Cheers.
Me too Nick, hope you love it just as much😊
Nice review, have been looking forward to it. Does look very nice! Why did they do an 18" front? Seems odd. You certainly put across your excitement with it.
Splendid etc
Thank you. I should imagine it helps with stability, makes it a little more forgiven. 😊
I certainly wasn't expecting it, but it's here; or there anyway. Well done on having a test ride. I do like the reversed round clocks! They are up there with Wendy's right way round clocks. I loved your enthusiastic first impressions. A perfect bike if you live in Greater Pottering and have a Moto Beeline.....
😂😂😂 I did get a bit lost 😂😂😂
Man, can you imagine doubling up on those cylinders. 1300 CC's of raw BSA power. Does Buddy have competition?
Definitely has the old BSA look .
Be careful, its still a virgin. Gotta properly seat the rings and valves right. Thanks for the ride ✌️
😂😂😂😂 buddy might just have a friend 😂😂😂 not sure this poor bike will get much chance of a gentle running in. I was first on and by 2/3 it had done 700 miles, poor thing😂😂😂
Got used to that weird voice now* - great video.
I would have bought this instead of my interceptor. Love the seat, love the pipes, love the tank love the single cylinder.
*Much less annoying than the Missing-link fryer
😂😂😂 thank you 😊
@@TAYM amazing place - Colchester Kawasaki ... I'm waiting for the BSA scrambler - it could be a bit special.
@@loki1066 it is very special indeed. Unfortunately it is probably not going to be out for a year or so if at all. The good news is that it is largely a gold star with a few mods . I am sure there will be all sorts of custom versions to come. I think they are too busy getting the World distribution sorted and ramping up production of the gold star😊
Omg swine … just finished work and you’ve beat me to it !!! Brilliant glad you like it 😊😊 just watching you on it now !
Looks beautiful in Red
The one I ordered is top of range silver sheen but now I’m not sure
I agree with the solid colours
Il have to wait to see them
Really pleased that I hopefully have done the right thing
Got to wait a bit tho now I’m exited
You’ve deffo got the scoop 😊
Still watching 😊
Can’t believe no else has one out yet, very strange 😊 I love the green and black. Funnily the silver is the one I wouldn’t go for😂😂 you are going to love it 😊
@@TAYM
Yes I’m definitely looking forward to seeing all the colours
And can’t wait for ride
Excellent 😊😊👏👏
My only criticism was that it was difficult to tell whether you liked that bike or not. You weren't giving much away. 😂😂🤣
Yes, I thought I kept it under my hat rather well 😊😂😂😂😂
Being very familiar with the original BSA Gold Stars; DBD32 and DBD34, (350 and 500), It's a shame to see it fitted with an ugly radiator now, instead of an air-cooled engine, (with a small oil cooling radiator?). Clip-on racing handlebars and a swept-back and upswept exhaust system, and knee cut-aways in the tank, would have been very nice, and added to the sporty look of the bike as well, and will we miss the original, high-compression, leg-breaking, kick-start routine? ...LOL...! Maybe some after-market stuff for it?.....😉....😉...! Take care, all!
Can’t argue with that 😊 hopefully there will be plenty of mods to come. thank you 😊
Oh dear, looks like paddington has got competition, still mrs taym didn't say no to the goldstar😂😂😂
Mrs TAYM doesn’t know. She thinks I am having an affair, only reason she let me out. If she knew it was to see another bike I might have been in trouble 😂😂😂
