- Vintage clip of Detroit Metro Airport in the spring of 1989. Wearing the classic cheat-line / widget livery, a Delta 727 departs Detroit for Cincinnati and a 767-200 takes off on what was then runway 21R bound for Atlanta.
Good video, love the 727 setting off the car alarm. Well before hushkits were mandatory :D
boeing 727 sets off car alarm............ Classic, great video btw
The 767 is The Spirit of Delta and is in a museum in Atlanta.
Glad you enjoyed the clip! :) I miss that classic era when Delta operated from concourse C. L-1011s were a common sight, through the mid-80s. The ORD-DTW-BTV was a route Delta inherited from Northeast, and operated it for sometime.
FAA needs to bring back, "Taxi into Position and Hold".
And get rid of those 5 letter intersections! Let’s bring back PROSPECT DIAMOND AQUEDUCT CONDUIT TUNA, etc.
i can not believe that delta is still operating this baby..really old school... very nice. =)
Great video! Great quality for 1989. Thanks for posting!
Great Video!
Thats only if its IFR conditions. That day appeared VFR. As long as the controller has both aircraft on his frequency and he can see them then he's legal. Now once he ships the aircraft to departure control then he needs 3 miles or 15 degrees of divergence. Great vid!
I TOTALLY agree with you about this being THE BEST livery Delta has EVER had..The present livery is so weak & pale by comparison...too stark.
SO cool!!!
All these planes are taking off where the "new" DTW has been built.
The 727 was heading to Cincinnati and the 767 to Atlanta.
Delta still flys DC-9's that were Northwest DC-9's before the Delta/Northwest merger
I still think Delta should have kept at least 1 plane in this livery just for nostalgia sake.
Possibly MCO too as Delta had a hub there in the 1980s when they were Disney's Official Carrier.
The 727 is presumably headed to ATL, not sure about 767, Salt Lake maybe?
Those 72s took forever to get off the ground.
I would'nt know what type of approach that aircraft was doing behind the 727, but if it was instrument then this controller busted departure seperation, he needs 3 miles once that 727 is airborne to protect the missed approach, unless DTW operated under a LOP saying differently back then...
Why did Airlines always used to fly heavy aircraft where they weren’t Hubbed at?
@buknoy7 they stop using the 727 a long time ago
@NIGHTWHMAN i know
@wdwron08 I know
