I love videos like these. No flashy music, stereotypes or celebrities. Just an honest view of the everyday life from the 90's, like going through a time machine.
Miss that 727 real jet sound. Sometimes you would hear the 3 wind up at slightly different times or throttle back at different rates. Miss the thump as it left the runway. Real Flying. Miss those light empty flights from the 90's. Thanks for posting
JMMT7022801 I tried it one time om a Singapore 777 from Copenhangen to Singapore, no more than 40 people, had the whole row for myself, amd the attendants treated us like kings. This was back in 2004 tho. In the 90s I flew the Varig MD11 often from Copenhagen aswell, also had a few well empty flights, even got bumped to business class because of it a few times.
@@loganenglish3537, yes, to try to go back to the good ol days of air travel; half empty planes, nicer service from the flight attendants, meals on domestic flights. I remember traveling back in the 1980s and every one of those things were better than today.
The camera work is great. You showed us what it was like to be in the cabin. You did not do what everyone else does, and stick the camera to the window for the entire flight. That shows us nothing but what is outside. You gave us the experience of flying in it which is the whole point of these kinda of videos, but everyone seems to miss that.
"LMAO, it was like riding some wild ass mechanical bull with wings I tell ya"! OMG, I really miss those days! Salute the 727...it took me many places and ruined my hearing! :)
I miss the widget and I miss the 727, Delta should do a retro jet 738 in the widget colors, in fact it doesn't even matter what aircraft just a retro jet, and a retro jet honoring NWA. Great vid.
Man, I miss the sound of those engines! Actually your camera work is great. It gives a good sense of being on the plane and takes me back. Love the shot across the cabin through the windows at 2:18 as the plane is taking off.!
@chairliftsrcool Yes, it was Delta's first flight of the day from CLT to ATL. I was headed to an airliner memorabilia show near the Atlanta airport and wanted to be there when it started !
Delta loved those 3 engine planes back then, most of them were 727s and L1011s. I remember even further back in the early 1980s, flying through Atlanta and we boarded onto a Delta 707. TWA had the 707s too, but they were gone by the mid 80s. I think it had something to do with their fuel efficiency and noise, the 707s were louder than the 727s, DC9s, and L1011s
Loved the video! I've been posting some older airline trip videos converted from VHS, too. Flying on these Delta 727's in the 1980's was what sparked my fascination with aviation!
In 2019, Delta or AA wouldn't think twice about cancelling a flight like this with this light of a load. Unless they needed the aircraft re positioned somewhere. I remember flying on 727s at AA. My mother worked for AA for 30 years and I flew allot as a child (non rev) in the 80s and 90s. It was common to see flights like this with light loads, and we could often get first class. Now, you are lucky to just get a seat as a non-rev and often don't. First class as non rev? Forget about it. Most people in First class today are using miles to upgrade anyway. This was a nice trip down memory lane. lol...And yes, every flight I have been on the past few years has been packed to the brim.
@indyfan22k It's not just your opinion. People have universally become selfish and rude anymore vs. the old days. Then there's the fact that everything has become so mindless and boring these days. Quiet and smooth, quiet and smooth, quiet and smooth. Some of us enjoy the sound of engines - both in our cars and airplanes. Unfortunately most mindless idiots would rather have silence so they can enjoy their shitty mainstream pop and talk on their cell phones and blah blah blah in peace.
Oh yeah, here's one for the way back machine... Late 70's...Piedmont Air, 737-200 non stop service from Greensboro,NC to MEMTN, early AM flight with a pancake midflight breakfast. I was a little girl then, on an unadult chapperone flight to visit relatives. I was their smallest, cutest passenger, and got to see the cockpit and talk to the pilot and co pilot. Got a pair of plastic Piedmont Airlines wings to put on my sweater. Everyone was super nice. Those were the days.
My goodness! Where are all of the passengers? It looks like there was plenty of room to spread out on this flight! I would have enjoyed being on that flight!
Wow, I am ready to go! Back to the 727 days that is - man how I miss this! Thanks for sharing the awesome sights and sounds of the 72! Fantastic approach in rain, fog, and scud with a great landing to top it off! Loved seeing the 1011's parked at the gates as well. Not to mention the Delta Widget!
Unfortunately my only trip on a 27 wasnt that pleasant but it looked gorgeous in so many liveries..I can mention Avianca, Iraqi, Delta, Dominicana, Eastern, Capitol, Ansett, Olympic, Western, Viasa, Aerolineas Argentinas, Aero Peru, Iberia, Air France, TWA, Air Canada, ANA, Korean Air, British Airways, Air Jamaica, all liveries as looking gorgeous on the 727.
@@skipcampbell4226 Fast forward 11 years since my original post...yes, indeed. It's an airline monopoly in many places and lots of airline amalgamations and defunctions since then.

@@TWATWA-qy4zn , i remember in the 1980s, 727s being surprisingly quite during takeoff, from inside the plane. However, I wondered why other 727s taking off nearby sounded so much louder than ours did. And I realized later, that we were often seeing other 727s from the sides and behind those other planes taking off. Like for example, when lined up, and seeing the 727 in front of us take off, its engines would be roaring as it was speeding up away from us, but we were seeing and hearing that plane from the back of it, behind the engines where the loudest noise was. When we took off, we're in front of the engines, which was quieter. The loudest noise is behind the engines. I just didn't understand that back then. As quiet as it sounded from the inside, I'm sure that our 727 sounded just as loud to the plane behind us as the 727 in front of us did to us.

I was sat beside him...didn't know who he was as back in the day I liked the Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and The Charlatans...I asked him what he was flying to the UK for and he replied.."Start of our world tour" I said that I didn't mean to be disrespectful but which band was he a member of...then he told me. I have a fantastic 14 or so hours with him before they let us off the plane and put us on a fleet of buses back to Heathrow.

Thanks for posting this!! My dad began working for Delta in 1968 here in Atlanta when I was only 2 years old......and that began my passion for and obsession with aviation and airplanes. I flew on countless Delta flights on the 727, DC-8, DC-9, L-1011, and even the 747 when Delta flew them back in the 70's as i was a kid. GREAT VIDEO, BTW!!
You lucky person, you got to fly on an L-1011 Tristar! The closest I ever got was a die cast metal model plane, that had Eastern Airlines livery on it.
It may be an illusion because of how empty the flight is, but there seems to be far more leg-room than your average economy cabin these days, plus a much higher ceiling. All round, more space. I was in a 737-800 recently for the first time in years and it felt so cramped and poky.
When the 727 "Whisperjet" began flying to CAE (Columbia SC) we knew the future was here. Loved flying on them. Back then flights were rarely full and access was much simpler. I don't look for those days again but still love to fly.

Since that was in 1990 did you have to buy a seat just for the camera because cameras were so huge? lol
By 1990 the size of camcorders were actually manageable. RCA had a good one as I recall.
