I just happen to have YT open when I got the notification for this. Decided to check it out. I wasn't too keen on the vocals at first, but they grew on me, little by little. Musically, it made me feel a little unsettled. In a good way though. Not really sure how to explain that. Just very moved. Good stuff. I'm glad I checked it out.

I will always thank my Spanish teacher for giving me the assignment to watch the very first release of this epic concert on Chilean TV. I was 12 years old and I’be been a Jaivas’ fan since. Welcome to "Los Jaivas" universe 🙂 This group is a classic band from Viña del Mar city in center of Chile, near Santiago. But well known in all latinamerica (except maybe by the new generation). They play mixing latin folk and progressive rock. Regarding this song, it was on the "Alturas de Machu Pichu" (Machu Pichu Heights) album from 1981, entirely filed in the ruins, with lyrics from Pablo Neruda (chilean nobel prize poet) who talked about the story of the ancient people of the place and their suffering, lifes, etc They lived in Argentina and France, during chilean dictatorship and returned to Chile in 1990 and they are still playing together (even though some of they passed away). Finally, the word Jaivas come from the first name of the band, which was The High & Bass, because some of them were very high compared to the other members, but was developed to Jaivas which sounds similar in spanish. What a wealth of great bands the seventies produced (all over the world!). Truly the golden age of progressive music. This reminds me of Italian prog, especially those funky analog synth sounds. It has an air of grandiosity and drama (stair climbing music!). Wonderful stuff!!

In 1981 los Jaivas realised the álbum called: "The heigths of Machu Picchu" they took as inspiration the homonimus poem of the Chilean Nobel prize writer Pablo Neruda. Este, y los otros temas del álbum, son una pequeña parte de "canto general" en el cual Neruda recrea la historia de los pueblos precolombinos ancestrales, la majestuosidad de naturaleza, su esplendor y desaparición por la invasión europea, entre otros aspectos narrados en forma poética y lleno de metáforas tan típicas de Neruda, q forman imágenes y sentimientos más q relatar una idea o hecho concreto, es fantasía inspirada y sobretodo música para disfrutar.
