      I'm a horse girl from the city. I worked on the racetrack. I had 2 goals. One was to be the first black female veterinarian on the racetrack, (don't think that's happened yet) and to be a buckaroo with my 250 head of cattle with my own rubber legs. Nobody understood me with my boots and cowboy- cowgirl hats.

      Horses have such a great ability to understand things than most people ever give them credit for. They have far better memories than people do. They are constantly looking for things in their environment that are out of place. They so often mirror the confidence and leadership of their rider / handler. As a prey animal, It is a horse’s job to take in information; to be observant, to be sensitive to their surroundings. I often ask students when they start lunge a horse; now how will you talk with this horse so it knows you are talking to it. This simplistic of concepts is so often taken for granted.

    Every one of these ladies needs to pick up their phones, record what they do for and with their horses, record their competitions and post to youtube. Let others see their fire for what they do. Don't worry about the color of their skin, just do it. You have to compete in the mainstream rodeo's in order to go on to the big ones.

      Jamey Powers no disrespect. I understand what you’re saying..But that’s all we see are Latinos and Caucasians. Like the system pointed out we are the original man. They brought us here to farm and build their houses, raise their animals. We’ve gotten very far away from who we are, which is the children of Israel. If you read the Bible you’ll see that we were agricultural people. So I don’t care about seeing other people, or what they’re doing, I only want to see more of our people teaching them that this is part of their heritage. We need to get back to grow in our own food. Because this evil beast. Is poisoning us. I love my people....

It’s upsetting, but I love the opportunity to educate them that yes, Black people ride too, and we have been for years and years. I hate that so many African Americans are brainwashed into thinking Black people don’t do this.. or don’t do that.. just because it’s not in the mainstream media. I’m now training to compete in barrel racing (starting a YT channel for that soon!) and one of my favorite groups to watch are the @ComptonCowboys who I support for what they’re doing in the Black community, particularly with the youth in Southern California. WORD! If there were only non-Black/African American women (like Native Americans, Japanese...) it would understandable... This poc BS needs to stop. James Brown said it decades ago..."Say it Loud"... I mean...there's a show called Black-ish. "ISH". In feng shui, Black is a power color, universally, it is also VERY elegant (think black tie & The Black & White Ball), professional, high end (black label). It's time to stop trying coddle others who may be uncomfortable hearing the truth. Black is BEAUTIFUL. And I a forever grateful to Malcolm X for his love, care and integrity - his deep love and support of his people.
      I digress... Anyway, there are Jewish community centers, Chinatowns, Little Italys, etc. all over the United States and these beautiful Black American women can't use/don't want to be called Black Cowgirls? There are The Black Cowboys (African Americans) And we LOVE them! They, too, are BEAUTIFUL.

      @@kingznqueenztv I'm a supporter of good horsemanship and I don't care what color anyone is. First, show up. Second work hard. Everyone has to do those things to succeed. Turn yourself into a roll model for others to follow but their colors don't matter either. Everyone's character is what is important. There is no doubt some people will have to work harder than others. For example, I'm dyslexic. It took me quite a while to type this reply out but I did it. Its really nice to see that there are more African Americans in general riding. I grew up rodeoing and competing constantly and the racism I endured really took a toll on my confidence and wellbeing. Its nice that people 'dont see color' but the reality is a lot of people 'do' and treated me horribly because of it. I once shook a fellow girls hand and she wiped her hands on her jeans like I was dirt. Its not racist to want to have more people like you around, especially in a field where your group is sparse....its comforting. The cowboys of color was created because there was a time where we weren't allowed to go to regular rodeos as it was illegal due to segregation. Even afterwards we werent necessarily 'welcome'. So dont get offended when I say I LOVE to see black cowgirls in my reccomend. This hugs my soul!

    Glad to see fellow black equestrian queens for ONCE! It's crazy how we still go so unnoticed in the equine industry, as if we don't share/ attain those types of aspirations like all other dominant demographics. With that, demographics aren't traced in the equine world across the board. So, along with a lack of demographical statistics, knowledge of how to involve oneself in the industry on a budget (if need be), general access, and relatable role models, it's no one wonder that the black community does not internally push this sport/ lifestyle. These ladies should post more RUclips content so we can follow each of their journeys and so they can be continuous examples to black folk in particular!

    This interview was well appreciated. I especially love what they said about pushing on even when the world is telling you that it is not for you. When u hear "no" a million times you can get to the point where you dont even want to try anymore but that reminder that you never give up is necessary. Humans are exhausting! Its nice to see the fruits of someone that understands and felt just like you but still overcame!

    I feel as if "women of color" is not only going back in time, but also problematic in the sense that African Americans face a very specific form of oppression, that isn't present with any other group of people. So just black women would be a more suitable and honest title.

    • @kmross73
      @kmross73 5 лет назад +9

      Playfulpanthress But he's right. "Women of color" is too encompassing. There are some issues that we as Black women face that other women don't. I feel like the terms "women/people of color" are too inclusive; the only thing these groups of people that you mentioned have in common is that they are not white. It makes it seem as if all these groups have the same issues affecting their communities when our experiences are different.

    • @therealkenj98
      @therealkenj98 5 лет назад +5

      I agree, people are scared to say black and now in turn want to use “of color” to include people that are not black and don’t fave black struggles because they are unique to black people. I wish people would catch on to their own erasure, just because they make it sound nice doesn’t mean it is. LOL it’s almost comical that we’ve co-signed to it.

    • @therealkenj98
      @therealkenj98 5 лет назад +6

      Playfulpanthress no that’s the hill your all inclusive self and many other black folks will die on tho. Including everyone while other groups of marginalized people don’t even show up for us when it’s needed and they have did this time in and time out throughout history. We do not share the same struggle and don’t face the same prejudice. There are books written on this and yet here we are...LOL comical. Everyone wants black people to mule for them but won’t show the same support. Remember that.

    • @kmross73
      @kmross73 5 лет назад +2

      JustKenn I didn't even bother responding after that person wrote the comment about "killing me on that hill." That alone indicates (at least to me) that this person is not wrapped too tightly. By the way I agree with you 100%.

    • @therealkenj98
      @therealkenj98 5 лет назад +5

      Playfulpanthress I don’t need other groups to back me up and I do not expect it which is why again the title should not be inclusive. Fight and die by what you believe in I could not care any more than I do now and that’s not at all. I said what I SAID and you are entitled to your wrong personal opinion. I stand by and for black people and black advancement. Including people in on what is ours has gotten us nowhere and has severely disenfranchised us as a people here in America. Every other group gets to be exclusive but we have to share our culture? I think not. Have a great week, I’m done speaking with you.

    The way I see it, if you're born with the heart, soul and spirit of the cowboy, then be proud that you were born with a special gift. And a lot of people from every different walk of life have this gift. It doesn't matter what your ethnic background is. Black, white, Asian, Latino or what have you.. if you love wearing the hat and boots, love riding horses or you compete in rodeos, or you just like to show off your western spirit.. don't be ashamed of that. So it's not surprising to see women of color who've been blessed with this special gift.
