*Great reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend very smooth and I love that you can change from left hand to right hand so easily. Gave it a 4 on durability because I haven’t had it long enough to rate it. Doing good so far.*
Hey. Very helpful video. I’m struggling to get mine to free spool. Mines Pinyen is part of the spool. When I flip the leaver it pulls the spool down towards the main gear but it always stays on the gear. I’m not sure how it’s supposed to work. Any advise would be much appreciated.
Sir... is it okay to use this type of grease that sprays "Wurth HHS 2000" without removing the rivet inside.... And sir... before using this reel, should we send the lubricant inside.. more full reel Lubricant is also required for its existence...,? It is difficult to find the type of grease (penn grease) required for this in our country. So what is the suitable type of Grease Gage.....please tell me sir....im Sri Lanka...
The clicker side is called the tail plate. The handle side is called the head plate. You should remove all screws and the inner and outer rings. Grease should be applied to the underside of the rings and all screws. The eccentric lever and eccentric should be removed, greased, and re installed. If you change from the old 3 stack asbestos drag washers you will also need new metal drag washers along with 5 new Penn HT-100 washers or Carbontex drag washers. Penn sells a 5 stack kit ready to go that includes the 5 metal and 5 HT-100 washers. Grease the new clean carbon washers with Cal's grease and wipe off the excess. Do not grease the metal drag washers. Too much drag grease and you will lose drag power. When you assemble make sure the tail plate bearing is backed out by unscrewing it out. You can adjust the bearing after all screws are tight. If you don't do this you could damage the spool. The gear sleeve can be removed from the bridge by using a 1/16" pin punch or similar inplement.
Anyone have any trick to fix a frozen handle knob. Or how to remove the knob you hold to crank? Should be free spinning but very frozen, moves just a little.
you would increase the drag performance ( max drag increase and smoother drag) if you are looking to upgrade drag washers i would make sure you dont have brass gears on in the inside... brass may melt or deform when more drag pressure is applied.
I have recently been looking into Penn senators as they seem like a good value. Would you recommend buying a new one (Current model) from a store (Bass Pro Shops), or one of the older models like in the video? Thank you very much. Subbed.
Archery and Outdoors from my experience, the newer models are going cheaper in quality. brass gears and more plastic. I like the older models better as they seem to use stainless steel gears ( but not all older models have steel gears). however finding an older model reel that is in good condition can be tricky to find but not impossible, just keep searching eBay. I got this reel for $45 and put new carbontex drag washers ($15 on eBay) to get better drag performance. if you have any other questions feel free to ask! tight lines
Alright I see. I did have one more question if you wouldn't mind taking the time to answer. Do you know the specific year(s) of the one in the video or specific year(s) that have been better than others in terms of quality? Thank you again.
+Jackson Payne HT-100 drag washer set. However... youll need to find out if your main gear is made of brass or steel. If it made of brass i'd get steel gears. With the increased drag system it can put more stress on the gears and since brass is a very soft metal they could strip. HT-100 drag 5 washer upgrade is around 15$ but well worth it
FloridaFisher- Not sure about the latest gears, but in the 80s and 90s the gears were bronze, not brass. Not as tough as a one piece stainless gear set, though.
Your parts terminology needs improvement. Alan Tani has alot of information on reel maintenance if you haven't looked him up yet. Some Cals grease for drag washers if you prefer it too. Good basic video though overall.

nice video, its great guia to repair my senator
nice guided vedio I service my all 114 and113 reels thank you

General rule of lube. Metal to metal contact - grease. The exception is on bearings. Use oil.
now you need a video on how to put it back!
What size senator is that, and is there any way you can do a size comparison between senators and say a 309?
@ Florida Fisher - Thanks for the help!

Whats the pattern of the drag/metal washers??
Anyone have any trick to fix a frozen handle knob. Or how to remove the knob you hold to crank? Should be free spinning but very frozen, moves just a little.
I have a question if I were to add more then 5 drag washers what would happen

How many washers could you fit in a 4/0
NodNarb Xx I believe you can fit 5 like I did in this 6/0. check eBay for carbontex drag washers I believe it around 15$

Do I need to lubricate drag and metal drag washers?
Thanks
wouldn't hurt to use a little bit.
A friend gave one of these but when I went to cast the spool kept spinning and it got all tangled up, wth...
youve gotta keep your finger on the spool or it will back-lash
