I used to think I was a marxist
now i go to less marches
It's not that I don't want to start shit
But I don't want to start shit
Unless it's where my heart sits
i don't keep a knife under my seat
to join the revolution and spill blood in the street
I'd rather have a discussion over a bottle of bud or a puff on a blunt and then get something to eat
I used to ask strangers if they believed in a God
to see if we were peas in a pod
and if they didn't agree with me then i'd argue and try to be smarter thinking I'd hear people applaud
But
I'm getting older
And I'm getting dummer
Or least I know less than I did when I was younger
I used to profess, now I'm more pro-wonder
I used to fear death, now I'm set to go under
No, fuck it, I still fear
This life is too top tear
and it's like we just got here
we're more than an oozie on a navy plane
or lazy susan cruising on the gravy train
we're the tingle up your neck
when you see the sunset filter through the dust as it settles on the waves of grain
yes, the waves of grain on the stolen land
theft is as American as a Cola can
yeah, it was sold to Sam
tell it to the mother of a little girl
on the trail of tears as she holds her hand
dammit, this was built on something ugly
But with all my heart, man I believe in this country
The beauty of our constitution
have you read it lately? I swear It's really pretty lovely
It's really splendid
It's like our forefathers penned it
inspired, some early eminem shit
It's like they meant it
it's like they dreamt that all the fences that divide us would eventually be mended
or rather torn down
so I don't think it's un-American at all for us to ask for even more now
Let's talk it over over more rounds
What do you say?
Not enough talk about how good Pat Dimitri is as a guitarist. He truly is a great.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Pat Dimitri please do something I can't figure out the chords man
He is indeed great! Love his tone and style
"... I don't think it's un-American to ask for even more..."
Thank you Watsky. ♡ ♥ ❤
More rights... not more from others that have to work for you to get without any effort...
Why would I do anything with my life if I can just sit at home, live with my parents and listen to Watsky all day :D
same.
To have fun..
Well, if your parents allow it, grab a fat sack, light up, and let the good times roll my friend
cockboy12 so who is going to pay for the fat sack?
George Watsky, you're definitely my favorite artist/poet of all time. Keep speaking man, keep speaking. You've got someone and many others listening to your words. My hero man.
2020 and we're bringing this back. BLM. Change is inevitable
I love this song--everything:the guitar (the blues feel throughout the video especially in the beginning--since I am a huge blues guitar fan myself) and watsky's message of peace, liberalism, and the same time told us to forget the grievances we have with this country and to embrace this country).
this is my new years song it should be everyones~ its beautiful and has great lyrics
10 years later, I still love this
Can we get this on Spotify dude?
a year later and I'm pretty sure it's a solid no lmao
@@Samj112 big rip, watskys flow in this one is addictive
Your poetry is outstanding. I can't even call this rap or hiphop. You definitely bring rap back into poetry. It's actually quite inspiring
We need a 2020 part 2
just aweome. I love everything you come up with. Your so true and original.
Soundin more and more libertarian
G Pow man, why do you have to go and label everything.
Because people and ideas are far more complex than a simple label, and it seems to dismiss an argument.
Ryan C. Engineering
I always had a problem with labels, wasn't till I read your comment that I fully understood why. Thanks friend.
And that's a great thing.
E.A. Hawley bad*
i love how George Watsky stands up and shows what he stands for. True inspiration.
Right now I'm listening to this incredible song, my parents are on vacation in Spain, and I'm playing Modern Warefare III while having a few beers. This song really puts the icing on the cake. Well a blunt could do It's job too.
"its not that i dont want to start s*** but i dont want to start s*** unless its were my heart sits" that is the best line in the song
There is not one human being on this very Earth who doesn't have a story - something significant to say, even where their future gets torn asunder. Even if people aren't in, as much, pain, that doesn't mean they don't matter. Thank you for preaching that.
I wanna keep listening to this over and over. I wanna blast it riding slow through the city all across the U.S. We are the 99%. Occupy the World.
ya know, I don't want Watsky to become famous. I mean, yes, I would love for his voice to be heard everywhere, but right now I feel like he's one of us, ya know? Like a real guy in a real world. He's raw and I like that. I don't want him to be marred by celebrity status. He's kinda like my hero right now, and I just don't want to be disappointed. He's an amazing inspiration because I can relate so incredibly much. He's a good guy.
This has long been one of my favourites by you man, soulful, truthful and straight up positive vibes and lyrics man!
Dammit George. You made me cry again. Why do you have to be so good with words?
1. this should be the theme for Occupy Wall Street. 2. You are so god damned incredible, its amazing. Never stop. I want to see you uploading new videos when I'm 80 and get to say "The pale kid keeps on keepin on. Never down, never out, always giving us new stuff to ponder and listen to."
That's real love there man, always giving us better and better music. I listen to you on my way to work just to feel better.
the part that got me hooked on the song was where he goes "the beauty of our constitution, have you read it lately? I swear its really pretty lovely. Its really splendid". Those words are just brilliant.
one of the top 10 most underrated rap songs (and videos in general) on youtube. Really these lyrics are so meaningful.
Dude Watsky u are my favorite rapper and one of my favorite people I love how down to earth u seem and how intelligent ur rhymes are truly an art
I'm addicted to this little piece of music. I can't stop my finger pressing replay. I've been stuck on this video for 30 minutes now :) Wastky you're awesome!
This is beautiful. Even if I don't agree with all of it, I admire your level headedness. You do a great job of making a point AND supporting it unlike some people. The real key to our problems is working together. Not tearing apart like this country is right now.
I had to listen to this more than once. First time to enjoy it, second time to soak it in, third time to be inspired by it.
The ending especially, the part about the Constitution, is really beautiful. I love you, George.
Even though I'm British, I can still see the relevance of the message Watsky is putting across. Probably because I had to study America more than my own country in history class, ironic. But still a brilliant song and does apply slightly to our country as well, at least it can be interpreted that way.
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING EVEN MORE ATTENTION TO OCCWS
This is my favorite song off the mixed tape. Thanks for putting that up for free download btw.
its dope that you put all the lyrics on your mixtape when you download it. "A New Kind of Sexy Mixtape" will be playing in my ipod for awhile
it's the aspiring people like watsky that show me that there is hope for america.
Ugh. He's the best. 💟
The reazon I fuckin love u is this track and vid right here, keeping it down to earth without bein scared to show what u believe in. I dont
OccupyWallStreet!!! It's up to us to stop the madness! Leash the beast!
Pat Dimitri is the man!! Killer guitarist live and a wicked cool chill dude.
Everytime watsky uploads a video i go on a watsky binge. He is a fucking wizard.
I saw heard this one in concert and it made me tear up. even now I listen to this and I feel the moment from before and my eyes water just a bit.
Watsky- a man great talent who is hopes to live his life by doing what he loves. watsky has been co-starred in NicePeter's epic rap battles of history #12 dr. seuss vs. shakespear as shakespear. he is best known for his fast rap, and personally he's my true idle. he raps with rhythm and heart within each letter of his poems.
thats my sense of watsky. Keep going im waiting for your next video(awsome guitar)
The best in a long while, George. Congratulations on this one.
GREAT JOB GEORGE WATSKY. GETS BETTER EVERY TIME!
YES GO WATSKY. this need more coverage all around
Everything he says is art...This was amazing. So freaking good. I can only dream to be as fucking great as him some day
As usual, unparalleled originality from Watsky.
Great Video! Thanks For Performing at Ripon. It was awesome to meet you!
I lost count of how many times I've listened to this today. This may be my favorite Watsky song XD
"Death is as American as a Cola can"
Dang. Pat Dimitri sang the heck out of those bluesy six strings. Good soulful Victor Wooten vibe there. Well done.
Watsky is going to make me fangirl all over the place
I voted for w bush in 00 and 04 and Ron Paul in '08 and '12. I know Watsky is on the other side of the voting spectrum, but I pretty much agree with this entire song - except I never thought I was a Marxist. I'm glad he said he's not anymore and that he loves this country and gives props to the constitution. Kinda brings a tear to the eye. And I salute Watsky for wanting to have an open discussion over a beer. Good man.
Watsky. you are a wordsmith and an inspiration. thanks for the poetry man
Watsky is so talented, he can rap, his videos are amazing and insightful, and he has a message. Hope he goes far, the world needs more Watskys
Thanks Watsky, I always feel that your works are fully thought out and that's wonderfully refreshing.
This song isn't only about Occupy. And although I'll agree that Occupy doesn't have central focus, and that most protesters don't really have much of a goal -- the movement has opened up a huge dialogue for discussion and debate. It's less of a real protest or campaign with a specific purpose, and more of a manifestation of people being upset with the status quo. If you ever talk to Occupiers, they'll all say different things and have different opinions.
I don't think that's necessarily bad.
That guitar... Oh my god that guitar...
Yes!! I've been hoping you'd make a video for this one!
Watsky, we need more of this from you. While I like your songs like Danger, I like these songs that have awesome, meaningful lyrics.
Meaningful lyrics + Watsky + Speed Rapping = the greatest songs EVER
Thumbs up
I've been waiting for him to put this song on RUclips ever since I downloaded his EP. Thank you for blessing us with this.
I love it when he uploads a video, and I already know all the lyrics. Thanks for getting every bit of mileage outta that mixtape, George. :) :) :)
Dude, just yesterday i was going over your previous clips wondering what's up... Nice to see you back and still sharp :)
Brilliant! I can't help but smile when you do
Watskys lyrics and pat Demetries guitar goes together like peanut butter and lady's !!
nice, i never get tired of listening to your songs, this one felt really chill
"Now I go to *fewer* marches."
Get it right, George.
I can't stop listening to this .
it's actualy fun to see that people directly start fights as soon as youtube has an update. Looks like showing pictures only causes more prejudice.
oh my god. so many wonderful historical references all in an amazingly flowing song. I love this so much. especially the trail of tears reference..
Hey GWatsky, I just wanted to tell you how much of an inspiration you are in my life. I don't rap, or try to make youtube videos, but you inspire me to be a better human. Can't wait for you to come Coe College, would really like to get you in the radio station at Coe and let the people of Coe see that you are more then a "Pale kid that raps fast"
Tomi
i dont have time to watch this video completely...cause my mom thinking i am doing my homeworks...but i know this song well...so i just leave a quick comment...its amazing song watsky...awesome!
You know... regardless if your left or right, if your up or your down, if your from L.A. or Birmingham, if you watch the news everyday or don't even know what channel the news is on, it seems like we all have one thing in common... we are all pretty fed up with the way things are. I'm ready to get my america back, I think you are too whatever your america might be. I think its time to stop talking about it... lets us ALL be the change we want to see in the world.
I feel like this is one of your best songs. Super simple beat with a strong message and great lyricism.
This was my favourite song on A New Kind Of Sexy, so happy he made a video
Yay a new vid! NEVER FEEL RUSHED!!!!! Take time and keep up your quality!
I can't get over how amazing this is.
The song really speaks to me. Part of it describes me, so I can relate. Not so much to the overall meaning, but just pieces.
I can't get over how talented this dude is; well done, sir.
Your amazing and a idol to many people. One of the best out there your just simply amazing.
This song was my instant favourite on NKOS. It's just... awesome.
That guitar sound is amazing and awesome playing too
I have wanted this video for weeks! my favorite song from new kind of sexy
All of your stuff is soooo quality, Watsky. Keep at it, my dude.
Finally a new video, well worth the wait.
Another great song Watsky. I'm impressed.
This is what art is for - thinking better.
I think Watsky would be awesome to have a drink with, but I don't know that I could keep up. Too much intellect, guy puts more effort into his songs/poems than most people put into life.
Goddamn Watsky it should be illegal to be as badass as you are.
This is on the EP just sayin, Great song. Watsky up there for favourite rappers.
"Shake off the dust...ARISE" great song & vid
The guitar player at the beginning has some real soul.
it's not only amazing it's for a great cause!
@gwatsky Oh my watsky
You never cease to amaze me
This is the first i've heard of you man. i saw the rap battle and now i'm a fan. You a re a very talented dude.
This is the song I was hoping you'd make a video for. By far my favorite on "A New Kind of Sexy".
This was AMAZING. Truly and utterly amazing. Great video.
this music style fits him really well :) i wish all of them were just like this.
This is one of my favorite songs off the mixtape, can't wait for your blue grass EP!
good man good man....the question isn't if you are gonna go big....that's happening.... question is will you be the same?....the 1% isn't any different then you or me..... when a smart, successful person becomes selfish that's when he becomes 1%.... questions is what's gonna matter more to you.... physical riches or the satisfaction that you are doing your best to give back....god bless and god speed....watsky
My favorite Watsky song ever..
