Now this game comes out, and all those activists are gleefully cheering for a bunch of white developers making a game set in Japan because it has a black main character.

I don't think there's any information of when Yasuke died, but around 1603, Yasuke would be firmly in his midlife at least and in 1615, Yasuke, if still alive, would be an old man for sure, also, without Nobunaga, his position would not be of any import, there's a reason we don't know much about Yasuke after 1582...

There were definitely samurai that would simply kill another samurai just based on the fact both of their sayas hit while walking through the street. They also had the ability to simply kill someone for even not bowing low enough to them if they wanted…problem is with that…It could cause economic problems having said civilian dead and therefore could cause problems from the Daimyo or shogunate.
You forget that ronins exist too and therefore they also practiced Bushido. They were just samurai that were masterless and became ronin due to not committing seppuku. Which is dishonorable in its own right…but I think people often view samurai as always fighting in “honorable duels” and sadly that was not always the case.

I had a small benefit of the doubt that they truly did choose a black “samurai” because of history, but adding in this detail further solidifies my original assumption that they chose him just because he’s black and not because he’s a noteworthy character that happens to be black.
Saw a black guy say "nobody thats actually black is upset by this", and while that is wrong, it is them that are being pandered to at the expense of not only the Japanese but also any people that want to experience a game set in Japan.

In conclusion, I believe Yasuke actually existed, but he was not a samurai.
In Japanese history classes, we are taught that Yasuke was brought to Japan as a slave by missionaries, and Nobunaga, who was amused by his black skin, decided to welcome him as a low-ranking vassal (a person in charge of carrying Nobunaga's luggage).
Nobunaga loved unusual things, and would show off his golden skulls, which were made by plating other people's skulls with gold, and globes that were brought from the West, to those around him.
It is highly likely that Yasuke was part of Nobunaga's collection.
It is the same as when modern-day powerful people keep rare animals.
Also, only one painting of Yasuke was discovered, but he is dressed like a Westerner of the time, and is definitely not a samurai. He did not even have a sword.
