I've just watched Blind Fury & I wonder if it would have been as good a film if Rutger Hauer had not been in it, for he looked like he was blind as he moved his head as if he could not see... yes a great actor sadly missed by those who appreciate real acting and not just the action.

I read the headline in disbelief. One of my favourite actors, i loved his style of acting and his calm and confident appearence, while he was a shy and modest person off camera. Rest in Piece, mister Hauer, Knight in the order of the Dutch Lion. Rust in Vrede, heer Hauer, Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw. My condolances to family, friends and fans.
I remember watching an Interview with him on the 'This Morning' chat show, on UK tv years ago, he was promoting 'Hostile Waters' at the time & the host, Richard Madeley, kept on trying to get him to 're do' the 'tears in rain' speech & he was reluctant to, then eventually he said the whole speech very, very quickly , just ran through it & when Madeley began to protest, Rutger said "look, that speech is very special, a perfect moment in time, I could try & 'act' it like that again, now, but it'll never be as good as the original performance in the movie, you can't recreate it, it's magical & I don't want to try." He was trying to tell him it was a one off, never to be repeated quite the same way again. Which just about sums up the man himself. Farewell Rutger Hauer, R.I.P.

In Blade Runner he overshadow Harrison Ford in every way, but unfortunately he never got real chance to shine and work as much as he should to show how brilliant talent he got but we knew.

I was so saddened of the loss of Rutger Hauger l always loved him l was fortunate to meet him in 2oo2 in Milton Keynes and my late husband and son met Rutger and spoke to him l even got a kiss from him he was so nice and down to earth .Godbless him rest in peace .and my sorrow for his family xxx

My very first experience with Mr. Hauer was as a kid in the 80's watching Blade Runner for the first time. I'll always remember him sitting in the pouring rain opposite Harrison Ford, giving his epic "tears in rain" monologue then letting go of the white pigeon. As a fellow Dutchman I am very proud of him. He was the greatest actor my country has ever produced. His passing is a huge blow not just to Hollywood but to The Netherlands aswel. He never lost touch of whats most important and never allowed himself to get infected with Hollywoods insanity and always stayed down to earth, and always was a sympathetic humble man. R.I.P.
