  • A man in Washington state took his car to get repairs, but his dashcam caught a mechanic taking the vehicle on a joyride, costing him hundreds of dollars in additional repairs for the damage.
Mason Berger told FOX 13 that a mechanic at theWrench in Silverdale took his BMW for a test drive and got up to speeds higher than 100 mph.
"It’s kind of like a violation. I had trusted you to repair my car, and now you treat me like this," Berger said.
Berger said when he got his BMW back, the stereo wasn’t working. So he went back to theWrench to get answers.
"He said it’s nothing they would have done, and they can’t fix it," he said.
Berger said when he noticed another phone connected to his car radio's Bluetooth, he decided to check his dashcam footage.
"That’s when I saw about 11 videos of him driving erratically, playing his music full blast. There's three videos where he went over 100 miles an hour, topping out at 113. He runs a red light in a video, and in one of them he gets out, and you see his face clearly," Berger said.
The original repairs for the BMW were nearly $2,500. Berger said he had to shell out $850 extra out of pocket to fix the stereo.
Berger said he showed the owner of theWrench these videos. He said the owner told him he would compensate him for the damage.
"It’s been a battle ever since to hear back from him. It’s been about two weeks now since he would pay me back," he said.

He was lucky to have the video. This happens way too often in auto repair.

I hope everyone in your area here's about this and they stop taking their cars to this dealership. If they treat a BMW like this than how are they going to treat your 30k vehicle?

Obviously the radio worked during the joyride because the mechanic connected to it and had record of music “blasting”

I don't think that's a funny story at all. This guy should get a good lawyer and hopefully get enough for a brand new BMW; while putting them out of business.

They need to boycott this shop and see how word of mouth can ruin your reputation as a business.

? They hire the same pr firm that bud hired? $800 to stop the mess your employee made vs ...what destroying your company name.

In a situation like that, you go straight to a lawyer. You will get the results you seek much sooner than the way this guy went about it.

The owner said you could hear the music on the camera. That shows that the radio was working during the joyride. Now it's not. In court, the preponderance of evidence would be needed to show guilt. In this case, the POE does show that. How far and how long was the joy ride? Could this be a case for grand thief auto? I see no issue taking this to small claims court to get resolved.

In a different video the car owner says the mechanic took the car on an hour and half long joy ride and ran 2 red lights. That seems like theft unless the guy is paid at least whatever the cost of renting that car for 90 minutes is. And new stereo, any traffic tickets that may result from red light cameras, and possibly new tires since that kind of driving can wear tires out faster.

Very very simple. Call police and show them the footage. Then call your back and dispute the charges. After disputing the charges, you call the local news service.

The shop probably has fine print in the contract that says they aren't responsible for any damage done to the car . Forget a lawyer being interested in this case. He is lucky the mechanic didn't get in a wreck as he would have been responsible for all the tickets and damages as the owner of the vehicle.

"We Can't Be Held Responsible" clauses are not enforceable, even if a customer signs it on a service contract.

I can’t believe these liberal thinking minds. Just when I think they can’t get any stupider, I see something like this If I was the owner of that shop that mechanic would be fired. The guy would get his radio fixed at the very least, because as a business owner reputation is worth a lot more than $800 that’s for sure. ☮️🇺🇸
