30 Year Old Mazda FD RX7 Wakes up after Sitting for 10 Years!

- Before going super deep into the Mazda Rx7 we need to ensure that the biggest issues can be sorted now. Which is the FDs Electrical system. This Mazda RX7 has sat for 10 Years, because it has just sat there could be rodent damage, Dry rotting Wires etc. With Getting all of the wirings out of the way it means we can not focus on building the rotary Engine and getting this thing hopefully running again real soon.

@@allencharles14 the 13b might not be as reliable as other engines, is about how you maintain it properly, and to put the proper parts to it, you dont want to cheap out, this is not a car for everyone even more if you dont have the capital (parts,build,tune, maintenance, the whole 9 yards, well the "pay to play" dont apply to you, stay off that league (this is not for sorry-broke-ass people)

Love the rotary engine content. When healthy, those things could scoot. I drove a friend's RX-7 all the time. They're finicky though. Good luck

I'm proud of you for not buying a bunch of shit you don't need and can boying out on fancy crap just to waste money for shiny crap that does no good. I see you have watched the Vargas Brothers videos then cause they use a lot of stock parts and run high power numbers. I don't have a dorito machine, but from what I've noticed it's all about balance, oil cooling, good premix, obvious good tune and be thorough on building it back up. Which that you are and I can't wait to see this thing brap brap!! Glad to see your getting over being such too man that's a bummer.

I recommend the Exedy master cylinders. Been using them for years, I always go with those if I'm doing anything OEM+ with clutch/flywheel. When you combine them Flywheel/slave/clutch/master it doubles the warranty.

Super easy to access the fuel pump cover from the hatch 4-6 screws, it pops right out and you can easily inspect the tank with a flashlight. I stored my RX-7 with premix and ethanol free gas and it still looks like brand new. If you think training the fuel pump was messy. Wait until you remove the stock location fuel filter that is above the rear differential and start cursing as the fuel is running down your arms.
On the wiring side the grounds suck. You need to upgrade the ground wiring especially where the fuel pump wiring and also the engine grounds. I can tell that RX-7 is a clean car. Way better than your previous projects like the Evo. Not sure on the BW turbo setup. I would definitely go with a V-mount just not sure on that turbo choice.
I should probably do that while the tank is empty 😅

It was a combo of the fuel was so old, the smell of premix and still being sick 😂
A recommendation from a logical stand point is if you have a car with electrical problems, grounds missing or cold soldering, it's not a bad idea to remove the airbag from the steering wheel, in case something shortens and/or goes wrong to not blow up unexpectedly in your face.
Tbh I'll prob start removing them now in situations like this 😅 never thought about that

I used to have that radio, it was really high quality back in the day. One of the first all digital units focused on iPod integration. You should be able to get a 30 pin to Lightning adapter and it used to interface with older iPhones that way, might still read Apple Music that way but it doesn’t do physical media. I can’t remember if it had an aux, assuming it did.

A Power FC would only really be cool IMO if it was like an early 2000s build and you're keeping it alive. But I say it's 2023, use all the tech you can to make this car fun and reliable. Haltech or Link or something IMO. Buy once cry once.

Tanner, I explained the headunit to you already. It's an iPod/iPhone specific Alpine IDA-X100, that's the data cable for it.
I know, but it worked with my android 👀 it has just a normal USB port with it
@@Smeedia Yes, it will work with USB media as well in a more limited capacity. The entire marketing behind that unit was that it was "made for iPod" from the ground up, the first of it's kind. Other stereos at the time did have the means to interface with ipods through serial/IP bus ports (i.e. the cd changer/accessory port), including the rest of Alpine's traditional stereo lineup.
Did you check or adjust the brake switch? I know from experience that if it's misadjusted the brake lights will either stay on, or not come on at all. Just a thought.

I run a PFC it’s better than just stock for sure and a lot fds still run PFC, but there’s just better tech out and a lot safer for the motor too. It’s def worth the money imo. I plan on going stand a lone soon!

Guess he will learn when the fuel pump and or the ignition switch wires melt or one of the 20 grounds wires is cracked somewhere you will never find.
