Less than $40/hour is not enough. I understand there is a market ceiling cost, but if this your only source of income, charge enough. Really liked the final product.
$10,000 would have been a more realistic and fair price. The 100 hrs he mentioned couldn't have included all he invested in term of design and build time and materials, wear and tear, travel time etc tc.
$40 an hour for 100 hours of unskilled work is extortionate. This kind of artless epoxy stuff has been done to death. It's a roughly constructed and rough looking upside down chopping board with legs. He did well to sell it for $4K.

No shit! mistakes happen, the important thing is to learn from them, and hopefully not do any damage that isn't fixable. Accidentally put my Stanley knife through my palm a month or so ago, a few stitches but got lucky and avoided any of the tendons and nerves. You can bet that I'm a lot more careful around a blade than I was before.

That’s okay, but it’s being done too much, I think. We definitely prefer voiceover or real-time narration or a mix of both. Your narration was awesome.
When you explain the ways you achieve the effects, and what kind of wood you use. It's not out of place to use words. But it's also very relaxing to watch you in action, while some beautiful music is playing in the background... words or not, it doesn't matter... and depending on the situation and the work you're doing... just keep going

few comments: I think 4k is less to charge for it but people who dont know what goes into making this will think its very high so i usually reserve such pieces for me. Also it would be good to invest in a trim router for trim operations. I cant even imagine using full size router for that purpose. I agree that router is the scariest power tool I have used.
4k is not enough to charge for this gorgeous bench. Not sure how much you should charge though as I don’t know when potential customers start backing away because of the cost. But you make one of a kind art pieces and they cost more. Absolutely beautiful!

Fast and dirty projects like kitchen boards or shelves are more profitable in terms of time/money. But I think you enjoy your work and want to bring us more and more unique projects, which is a completely different way, and I hope you will stick to this way and it will pay for itself, so you will charge 10-100 times more and sell from the point of real peace of art of a known woodworker

Definitely voice over. You've got great presenting voice, and explain everything very well. I've been working with routers a very long time, and have everything from little trim routers to a couple of the most powerful on the market. I've never had one grab and jump like that! Bending the shaft, and destroying the collet from what it looks like. Wow! A great reminder to always respect the tools and take care.

Now, suppose you made a bench, or table like that, where each large slice came from a different type of tree, with labels. Imagine growing up being able to recognize each type of wood from early childhood. Sixty years ago, I visited the Guantamano naval library and looked through a set of reference manuals that described every useful engineering property of every type of wood that architechs used to design their long-gone tall ships. I also checked & found that the Boston Naval Ship Yard had a set of books. Not sure if it was the same set I saw, or whether it had always been there, tucked away in the Charlestown (Boston) Naval Shipyard. The USS Constituition is maintained as a holy site for the US Navy. A "Plank-Owner" is still the name that describes someone who was part of the ship's crew when it was being built. 68 years ago, I learned my Scouting knots from an elderly sailer who managed the sails high above the deck on tall ships. 22 years later, I served aboard a submarine tender whose sister ship had Teak decks. Young sailers of that ship had to scrub the decks on their knees with pumace stones. Today, Coast Guard sailors, and Navy Sailors still climb aloft on tall training ships at night to tend sails in horizontal rain. I have met a few people who have done that. Their eyes gleam with confidence as they recall their experience. Lignam Vitae is one type of wood that once once used as a the propeller shafts of iron ships. The Navy used to say wooden ships and Iron men. Give it a try. I wonder what the Navy would say.
Nice story. I didn't know lignum vitae by that name; I looked it up and knew it as palo de hierro (ironwood). I believe it's the hardest wood that exists.

This is only the 2nd video of yours I have watched and I am seriously impressed. Your work is terrific and I am now cosidering having a go with some timber I have put by for a project that will both test and (hopefully) reward me. I have seen some projects done in a similar manner but not at this sort of size and attention to detail. Keep the narration. It is clear and straightforward . As for the router incident -it's happened to most of us at some point ( the power of some of these machines is scary) and as you proved, only a slight misjudgement can cause havoc. Well done for keeping it in and I'm glad you were not seriously hurt.

Beautiful work. I've been suspending burl "islands" in resin for years for clients with only the resin holding everything together and with no flood coats on the top or the bottom, just seamless transitions between timber and resin like you do. I've had absolutely no issues at all with things coming apart. The largest table I've done so far was an $18,000 piece that was 3m x 1.3m with three independent steel legs that went all the way across the width of the table at both ends and the middle so the client could get 10 chairs around it. Your bench uses way less resin and is more than twice as thick so there's absolutely no reason why all of your work wouldn't stand up to the test of time as long as everything is appropriately dry when you make it.
What an exquisite piece dude. And with regards the narration, keep it up. You're interesting and you don't have one of those monotone voices that makes you want to change the channel! Good work👍

Beautiful work. I've been suspending burl "islands" in resin for years for clients with only the resin holding everything together and with no flood coats on the top or the bottom, just seamless transitions between timber and resin like you do. I've had absolutely no issues at all with things coming apart. The largest table I've done so far was an $18,000 piece that was 3m x 1.3m with three independent steel legs that went all the way across the width of the table at both ends and the middle so the client could get 10 chairs around it. Your bench uses way less resin and is more than twice as thick so there's absolutely no reason why all of your work wouldn't stand up to the test of time as long as everything is appropriately dry when you make it.
