I had this with my mother. She painted me very much as the bad guy. She then had a minor collision with a parked car in a car park. She never told me nor her insurer. I picked up some of her post several months after it had happened to see a solicitor's letter from the other party claiming a large sum for repairs to their vehicle. It was very difficult to establish what had actually happened as my mother's memory is poor. It was her fault anyway as she drove into a parked unattended car. She cried like a baby when I told her it was her problem to sort it out herself, nothing to do with me. She then became horrid to me. Previously she told me she would not drive but she did. I disabled her car. Anyway moving on several months and she required new glasses which meant an eye test which I took her to. Optician advised of their findings that my mother had cataracts and needed them removed, a fairly std procedure these days. I specifically asked the optician about driving and they said "No, not until after the cataract operations had been done and her sight re-tested". So now the really bad person was the optician although I was still in my mother's bad books as I had for some time been raising my concerns with her about her poor standard and ability to still drive safely. Shemaintained she was still fine and I was trying to take away her independence. Issues of being competent to drive and road safety for other road users were lost on her. Anyway I now have her car key. There is only one key. She is no longer driving and not a week goes by that she reminds me of it, as if it is some how my fault!
