Tom Hanks is probably the only actor able to play Fred Rogers & I feel sorry for those too young to have experienced Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Fred Rogers proved that kindness is a strength not a weakness.
@Jabe Jikkonen There's been a lot of "dirt" that's been whispered the past year or so about Tom Hanks, which I won't repeat here but, there's a reason why he & Rita moved to Greece.
Fred Rogers was the next door neighbour many of us wanted to have. I was surprised to hear who Tom Hanks was playing next: the kind of man you wouldn't want in your neighbourhood or trust with your loose change: Colonel Tom Parker in the "Elvis" movie.
When Mr Rogers passed, A little part of all of us passed away also. He taught us so much about love, respect and accepting others as they are. He is greatly missed.
If he were here I'd like to think that he would say that he hopes the part that passed away was the part of us that made us feel as though we were alone, that we were unloved, and that we weren't special. Because his entire life's work was not only to make us feel included, loved, and special, but to show us how to do that for others.
As someone from England who had no idea who Mr Rodgers was and learnt through RUclips, he was a national treasure we never had. What a wonderful man he was. RIP Fred ❤️
We need Fred Rogers now more than ever. Not sure there will ever be another who carries himself and is as endearing as he was in our lives. I always hold out hope though.
Let us carry on his message. Thank you for putting that necessary question out to the masses. We can do it, one smile, one holding of the door, one thank you, one greeting at a time.

I love what Mr. Hanks says towards the end of the video regarding Mr. Rogers' philosophy: "Be Kind." It works now. It worked when Mr. Rogers was preaching it. Dr. Who even expressed it when he said, "I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT! Because it’s decent! And above all, it’s kind! It’s just that.. Just kind."

He was an angel of the Lord sent from heaven to proclaim the almighty goodness of God. He may never have said anything religious on his show, but he lived it through the good he did through it.
What does that mean? That we don't "deserve" kindness? He wouldn't say that, quite the opposite: we deserve unconditional love as a birthright. It's not an exclusionary competition where only excellent examples who rank in some hierarchy get a break from the beatings. That's grim, man.
I wasn't, although I think I watched it in 1984 when I visited the US with my parents. I also remember the Disney show with the kids singing the national anthem. The Tom Hanks movie was great.
I've said it before at another board, when my children were very young and I was trying to get 30 minutes to clean a bathroom or start a meal, I tried seseme street. My kids ignored it and continued their mayhem. But when Mr. Rogers came on, as soon as the music started playing, they were like zombies. Dropped everything, came down the stairs or out of the front room. They stood or sat as long as he was on. To this day I don't understand it. I also don't understand why I didn't go clean or cook but stood watching too.
Mr Rogers' way worked in a world of logical reasoning and common sense. Today, we care about people's feelings SO much that we discard the truth completely which is what Mr. Rogers was openly opposed to. During the Nam war he had segments on his show where he talked to the children and helped them understand what was going on and it was ok to be scared. But, he DID NOT hide the truth from them. THAT was real empathy and kindness.

Hi Jeff! The words you’ve lived by are a collection of Jesus’ contemporaries attempting to capture their own view of the man, and are partial truths. Jesus did not teach you, the gospel writers did, as did your religious leaders who took the time to guide you (or perhaps yourself, if this is a self-guided journey). Hope this helps!

Tom Hanks hit the nail in the head. Today's world does not share feelings anymore, but what they use is the excuse today that it is "cringe" to hide behind being uncomforting sharing feelings which is so unhealthy for your mental health not to deal with it...

When Mr Rogers passed, A little part of all of us passed away also. He taught us so much about love, respect and accepting others as they are. He is greatly missed.
For me, it was the passing of Jim Henson and Charles Schultz. Mister Rogers's passing affected me as well.
The part of us that passed with him hopefully is a small price to pay for the part of him that endures within us.
