My own work. Work-in-progress. Would like to publish as a mod, or mod template. I shot him to show that I was actually in an area that the player could see normally, but is out of bounds. Lol
I find the context of running around a disaster-free black mesa really funny, in like an odd kind of way. Like, jeez, imagine watching your colleague at work just start collecting guns and ammo (and even grenades!), in the middle of a seemingly completely normal day. And then he shoots someone! Of course, it's probably Black Mesa's fault for leaving unsecured munitions everywhere, but... Anyway, really cool mod!
You know, it whoud be so cool if there was a mod where you are part of lambda team, and you get critical info that the resonance cascade will happen and you have to inform sector C, but communication and tram systems are broken so you run straight through black mesa the entire way gordon went but i guess backwards
Running backwards is a great idea for a mod! It won't be possible without major modifications though. Like how would you go backwards through the Blast Pit hole? 🤔
I love the thought that gordon already went through the whole path of half-life before the disaster, and the reason who knows where to go during the gameplay is because he’s already done this before by chance
I already love this project. I think both this and the pre-combine HL2 maps fill the same role that I believe is sort of important, actually. Since HL1 put so much emphasis on trying to be a real place, except mostly one in the aftermath of a disaster and alien invasion, fleshing out the facility from before doomsday, seeing the pieces put back together as it were... the HL2 maps do a similar thing, and go to show just how hard the Combine screwed Earth. One suggestion I have, and I don't know how feasible it is or if this would be a finishing touches sort of deal, but I think the more industrial areas of Black Mesa wouldn't have so many scientists there (most encountered in the game are hiding or fleeing and just took refuge there), instead more likely to be security guards and probably maintenance engineers (though that would probably require a custom model).
Great mod! Might want to reposition the scientists in Sector C, though. Maybe I'm just that into Half-Life, but it's painfully obvious to me that they're just repeating their scripted paths from the original game.
So what did you expect? I'm pretty sure you're walking the same paths from the cafeteria and back every day at work, resonance cascade or not. Why not them too?
@@rosiemccattail6350 They'd still be in different places lol, especially the ones at the beginning of the video. also why was your reply so aggressive lol

This video makes me irrationally happy, I really love this! I'd love for this to be released sometime (and also release the map sources so I can port it to GMod and then combine it all into one big map)
This is a really interesting concept! An idea that occured to me to 'expand the lore' would be if in 2:42 that scientist would ask you for help since you've got the HEV suit maybe using AI (eleven labs) to generate the dialogue and sent you on a mini quest inside that vent to find an item or to talk to another scientist in another place, just an idea, but mod looks really cool so far!
I recently came across something interesting: apparently, "Jungle Drums" doesn’t trigger unless you enter a SPECIFIC PORTION of C4A2. Even if you kill the Gonarch first, unless you enter this exact portion, you could hypothetically play that chapter without hearing it at all. The quirks of that music trigger, among others, could be used as a basis for a video on music trigger oddities in GoldSrc games (the most notable other I can think of is the missing trigger in GoldSrc C2A3)
hey there! I love this whole concept, it looks great, and the areas that you added also feel like similar in style to the original areas, so good job! I'd like to point out one minor thing that stood out me, though, that being the valve at 4:26 that opens the door to that sewage pipe. It seems kind of unintuitive for me that a valve would do that, I'd rather expect something like the flow of the liquid through a pipe to change when rotating a valve, generally. I guess I'd rather have just a door handle sticking out with a "touch" trigger, or a button/lever on the wall combined with a sign saying "sewage access" or something along those lines. Regardless of that though, honestly great work, would love to try it out/playtest the map if/when you get around to it
I really want to see an open world Half-Life game. Where it would be a Fallout style game where you survive City-17 and Go through the ruins of Black Mesa. I don't know if there is a mod or game like that but That would be very sick.
Haha, this was great! For me the star of HL1 has always been the facility itself. It's such a fascinating place, and traversing through always kept me wondering what the places you never see during the story look like. Seeing places connect together in new ways just gives the entire thing that first playthrough vibe. Love it.
Looks really neat! It was often surprising to see a familiar place trough some bars and then suddenly see completely different area trough the another opening nearby.
An entire mod based around exploration like this would be so much fun, like an open world black mesa having the opportunity to go to places that are unable to go in normal half life 1 open up with puzzles and brand new areas and not with the focus of killing everything that moves.
It's like Gordon woke up one day with the feeling of being someone who has experienced a catastrophe never happened. Like it's a parallel universe but he's got the strange feeling, like dreaming of what never happened. And here it goes, his normal, standard day without any resonance cascades etc. Maybe in reality, as boring as it is, he don't even get to have an access to "The Test Chamber" yet he always wanted to. It is kind of relatable to what some of us feel between series of days of boring routine work. And from this point of view, even these details like munitions lying around are the source of these thoughts for Gordon, it's all one step to the side from the path and the consequences will be unpredictable. He's a scientist right? He's got to ask the questions. Maybe from this side it could be showing an idea of Gordon being the reason for all what happened in Black Mesa from the beginning, like he was the one to pull the trigger, even if was a small action, meaningless by itself. I think it's this feeling of "what if" that is relatable and makes this mod "scarier" for some people down there in the comments. That strange feeling of nostalgia for what never happened in reality. Interesting idea for a mod in any case. Would like to see more of it, expanding the idea itself.
Would love this sort of thing, combined with the Black Mesa combined map you did, ported to S&box, and expanded to where you could run/fly over the surface without missing textures. Sort of a pipedream, but would make the reality of the 90s games feel so much more cohesive
This is so bizarre man because you're used to see everything tore apart but it's a very well recreation on how it would've looked like before the resonance cascade.
Plz continue this cause I love Pre-Disaster areas just walking around Black Mesa is awesome. I'd fully endorse and support a mod to just walk around areas before disaster and areas you can see but cant get to. Only thing I'd change is not having weapons and only crowbar
Just so you know, those "Confined Space - Entry Can Be Fatal" signs don't apply to well ventilated areas, and certainly not to places with running water or regular movement of machinery. In areas without much movement or ventilation, the air can actually go so stale that it becomes unbreathable, leading to rapid hypoxia.
"There goes Mr Freeman again." "He went from rambling about the 'resonance cascade' to like this 'combine' thing now." "Why is he still hired and not sent to get help?"
Btw something like this could be cool as legit mod, expanded and improved maps, so after resonance cascade you have alternative routes, there is not many mods, especially released ones who instead of new campaign improves Valve levels, I guess that because there is no sources of maps, and its needed either spend time to repair decompile or adapt these leaked HL Source maps from HL2 Beta before actually modifying levels themselves, and mappers simply choose to do own maps instead.
