I can give Xaden a pass just because of the number of times he's almost lost Violet and their relationship being somewhat of a question mark for so long. He's been in a constate of "did I lose her?" AND he takes her note and checks himself quite quickly, unlike Dain. The kissing and shadows was more for Violet and to send a message to Cat., imo. For Violet by cutting off Cat and giving her a moment to get level in her head, and explain what Cat was doing but he didnt do a very good job of it, and to apologize to her which is important for him to do and tell her he heard her. The message to Cat to back the hell off and put her in her place with the line where Xaden apologizes to everyone and states he just loses control around Violet. Basically telling Cat not to mess with her, that he knows what she said and what she's doing, and she's barking up the wrong tree. Xaden just had the benefit of getting a makeout session and pissing of Tecarus which we know he doesn't like Tecarus anyways so he's not going to be PC or sensitive to the fact it's in front of Cat and her uncle after ending the engagement. Also, if Cat did use her powers on Xaden during their relationship, he's probably pissed about it and getting some petty revenge on the side.
I really want to know if Dain’s sword was of some personal significance for him. I think Violet asking Ridoc if he’s attached to his sword is a huge sign that Dain is, especially with how he winces when Ridoc hammers it into the rock. And he offers this up without a second thought and I feel like he makes this silent and unrecognized sacrifice. He’s definitely still a work in progress (as evidenced by how he tried to stop Violet from going after the wyvern) but he’s trying and I think he deserves some credit for that.

Could Naolin maybe give so much of his power to resurrect Brennan that naolin put his soul into Brennan? I mean Brennan has talked about childhood memories and maybe xaden could know something was up with intentions. But even the dark wielders have runes. His scar isn’t mentioned another time when he showed his palm, what if he keeps doing runes to keep naolin in Brennan’s body? And that’s when the ruin is present is when it’s fresh 🤷🏻♀️ idk I thought about it and now I can’t stop thinking about it lol
After I read Iron Flame for the 4th time, I think there are atleast 5 instances where Violet's second signet could be distance weilding. Distance weilding encompasses time, speed and gravity.

How it's mentioned several times throughout the book she is running so fast her feet doesn't even touch the ground. We also know she starts running with Imogen because she has this innate need to outrun the venin, to be faster than them. So this could be why she manifests distance weilding as her second signet. 3. At the last battle in Basgiath, the way she jumps from Tairn's back to Aaotrom' s back then the wyvern then on Sliseag's back, and she doesn't falter once or even struggles with her joints, I think this was a baby stage of distance weilding where it's not just distance but it involves manipulating time, speed and gravity. 4. When she throws herself from Sliseag's back with Sawyer in her arms it's written ' time seems to slow'. I think this is also her distance weilding. 5. In Violet's first dream she was at a particular place but in her next dream she has travelled further. She even mentions it. I think she is distance weilding even in her dreams. 6. And lastly Xaden mentions there hasn't been a distance weilder in centuries, so we don't really know how this particular signet works. Plus I don't think Rebecca would just mention this signet if she isn't planning to use it in a significant way.
In terms of Cat using her mind powers on Xaden, I don’t think that she had a lot of opportunity to do this as her and Violet are in the same year of their training (griffin flyers start a year after riders) and Xaden broke off their betrothal before becoming involved with Violet. So, it all depends on when exactly the betrothal was broken off and when the powers of griffin flyers manifest. Her beginning to be able to amplify his emotions may have been the final straw towards breaking off the betrothal.
Okay I just have to point out that Lexi talked mad trash about them having to take Physics class, but look at Violet using it when accounting for the rain in her dagger throws 😂😂
For me Xaden earned himself so many points in fourth wing I can give a pass to all of his L’s in iron flame, I also think it’s important to remember that Xaden has not felt loved in so long and violet is the first person in years who’s loved him for him and the first woman he’s ever loved he spent three days at her bedside while she was in a coma after resson I can understand his over protectiveness and as someone who absolutely hates talking about the difficult emotional stuff (a betrothal to cat for instance) I can relate to Xaden a lot. Should he have told violet more about the whole tecaras situation? Absolutely. But I see why he didn’t. ❤❤❤❤ (Also he’s 23, historically 23 years old boys aren’t known for their decision making skills and he’s still trying to figure out how to relationship)
I agree with all of this. Many of the other swoon-worthy book boyfriends from other series are immortal. They have had centuries to mature and speak eloquently and make the right decisions, like you said Xaden is young and has never really felt love. I give him a pass.

I've been thinking about why Cat's power works on Violet when her sheilds are up. Even though it's called mindwork, emotions are a very physical experience. Violet decribes how she's feeling the emotions in her body. Maybe Cat's power works on how the body feels emotions and shielding the mind can't block that effect. Thoughts?
Iron Flame and Fourth Wing pass the bechdel test in many places as far as I remember. Most prominent scene coming to mind is rhiannon and violet talking about venin during presentation, all the conversations with Imogen, Rhiannon, Mira about topics other than Xaden, etc.
Liam was a hallucination. People in severely traumatic positions can create these types of hallucinations to try and comfort themselves in their present situations. I don't get this second signet theory and why it's so popular. She was traumatized for days and had moments of peace with Liam there with her. Her brain protected her sanity with someone she loved and was tasked with keeping her safe. I don't wanna yuck someone's yum if you're a believer of this theory.
Okay first, I love this podcast SO much!! Second, though this was last episode I think the reason both Violet and Xandon are having dreams about the venim are because they both got stabbed and though healed still connected to the venim. Third, if there is a prophecy how crazy would it be that Violence is the dragon, cat or her sister are the griffons and Xadon is the venim?? Just throwing it out there. What a messed up family?!?
So the major flaw I see in any second signet being present yet is that she is so far away from Andarna that it doesn’t feel like she can draw that power. Also I don’t feel like amplification is it either because there is the epigraph that says how Mira can produce a ward/shield only under extreme emotion reaction which in this instance I think is what happens when she has to or they die kinda thing. And maybe it’s just me but I think Xaden was trying to be a typical man making a sex joke about her being curled up in his bed trying to lighten the mood…or maybe that’s just my husband who thinks those kinda comments will be funny 🫣🤣🤣🤣
Ok theory running through my head... What if Xaden's mom is actually Queen Maraya? The epigraph in 41 states she has no heir and named her cousin heir. We know Fen was in a contractual marriage with someone, stating she couldn't leave until Fens heir was 10. And xaden doesn't have siblings. Cat is so focused on a crown- could the tyrrendor crown not be the one she is fixated on because she knows who Xadens mom is ... Since she is close to her uncle who is a distant cousin of the queen... And she left Fen and Xaden to resume her role as queen. Also this connects Fen with Viscount.

Xaden is morally gray and he has never really presented as anything else so it’s expected that he will do some questionable things, IMO the hate towards Dain comes from him presenting has a good guy but is not really. he gives total “I care for you” but “only if you are weak and I can be your hero” vibes.
I think that it is just the circumstances at play. Xaden read her only when, from what he said, it was almost life or death. He also didn't use that knowledge to betray her and get her friend killed.

About Brennan and refusing to give the book to Violet. I wonder if it's a decison the whole Council has made and not just him. In a previous episode, it was said that some of the Assembly members didn't trust Violet, more than 4, I think, and since we need 4 members for majority, maybe it was why she wasn't allowed to read the book but maybe I'm looking too far into it. Also, I just want to know because I don't see a lot of people with this opinion. 😂 Am I the only one who love Brennan (even with his secrets) ? He actually became my favorite character.

Maybe an unhinged theory i have. It was the third brother who commanded the sky to surrender its greatest power, who vanquished his jealous siblings at a great and terrible price. - The origin, fables of the Barren Chapter 37 4th Wing- A venin told her such un tapped power. No wonder we were called here. that you could command the sky to surrender its power and you wouldn't even know what to do with it. Do you? Riders never do. What if it means she can draw from the sky and not turn venin. Like the venin draw from the earth. So violet could have power besides that she gets from Tairn or Andarna. My guess is that the Violet will destroy the wards to set everyone free. But she will also have to destroy all bonds to be able to defeat the venin. Destroy the venins bond to power, the griffins bond to fliers, and the dragons bonds to riders. A great and terrible price.
At the end in Xaden's POV chapter when he is talking to Jack he said he would get the Rybestad chest to put Jack in. So i assumed it wasn't destroyed and in Corydon.

I meant I had also thought it broke when she struck it. The end had confused me when he mentioned retrieving the chest. It wasn’t until my next read through when I figured out it wasn’t actually destroyed because I finally caught that he had thrown it 😂
Fun fact, for the bechdel test to be passed the two women actually have to be named as far as I know. At least that's what I remember from my thesis paper on the subject of female heroes in movies xD
I don't think a shield works for Poromil mind gifts. When on the mat and Cat is using her gift, Xaden has to move Violet because physical distance is the only way to stop being effective

Correct me if I’m wrong but, with shields… doesn’t violet and xaden have the ability to shield and still talk mind to mind because of the bond they have with eachother through their dragons? Like their shields can be up and they still can speak. Like later after vi knows about his mind signet they speak mind to mind during their meeting in the forest with leadership. Vi asked xaden if he can tell what their thinking and xaden says their shields are all up except the one who’s scared and hungry.
Violet seems to be connected to Xaden, Tairn, and Andarna while also having up what I guess her main shields are. I think it’s selective like her descriptions of the doors and which ones shes keeping open. She did block Tairn out when talking with Andarna about her being a 7th breed, and she shut Andarna out when her and Tairn were talking about Andarnas wing. Maybe the bonds are different because they are ingrained within them but can still be shielded against when needed
Runes next episode, how were they made/found in the beginning? Need magic to make the thread to craft the rune. But the first 6 were accepted by dragons only because they could make runes to build the wardstone. And the runes are basically an old language? Like amplify sound forward. Why only the old language for runes.
I was way off base. I 100% thought the viscount was the leader of the Venin. I thought he brought them there to see what their powers were. I also thought the “traps” were more of a lure like it has special power that pulls in the venin and gives them more power when they get it. I also thought at this point that Xaden went ahead to broker a deal and gave himself to viscount to keep her safe. Then got pissed when viscount pull the chest shit. Viscount let them go way too easily and didn’t get much considering what he was wanting.
Cat words: I want that crown Cat actions: I want that man Honestly what did Cat think was going to happen? Did she think Violet was going to break up with Xaden because she was being cruel? And even if Violet broke up with Xaden, they would have already gotten the luminary and Xaden wouldn't get back together with Cat. Her entire plot didn't make much sense to me. Cat clearly felt something for Xaden and it wasn't reciprocated because if he felt something for her, Xaden would have stayed with Cat even after rejecting the alliance. Violet cared more about Cat than Xaden. Rebecca tried to do something and it didn't work. Honestly tell me if you think Violet's ex would come up to Xaden and say "you should change your clothes because Violet doesn't like that color"? The way Cat was attacking Violet made me think of a spoiled 15 year old girl and even her sister and friends were telling her to stop because it was getting ridiculous. This plot would have worked if Cat didn't have feelings for Xaden and found another way to attack Violet that didn't involve this man because out of ten words that came out of Cat's mouth, five were about Xaden.
I thought it made since. I viewed cat as jealous of Vi. Even if she didn’t feel a love for xaden she felt a deep love for his standing and cat wanted that throne more then anything. She attacked violet in the way her mind powers allowed her to and the fact that cat knew violet was insecure made it all the more easier for cat and made it prevent in her way to get under violets skin.

I also think that even if it was a man doing what Cat I was doing I still would not like the character. Like Dain was touching Violets face and I dislike him more than Cat.

I've been thinking about why Cat's power works on Violet when her sheilds are up. Even though it's called mindwork, emotions are a very physical experience. Violet decribes how she's feeling the emotions in her body. Maybe Cat's power works on how the body feels emotions and shielding the mind can't block that effect.

Iron Flame and Fourth Wing pass the bechdel test in many places as far as I remember. Most prominent scene coming to mind is rhiannon and violet talking about venin during presentation, all the conversations with Imogen, Rhiannon, Mira about topics other than Xaden, etc.

Liam was a hallucination. People in severely traumatic positions can create these types of hallucinations to try and comfort themselves in their present situations.
I don't get this second signet theory and why it's so popular. She was traumatized for days and had moments of peace with Liam there with her. Her brain protected her sanity with someone she loved and was tasked with keeping her safe.

So the major flaw I see in any second signet being present yet is that she is so far away from Andarna that it doesn’t feel like she can draw that power.
Also I don’t feel like amplification is it either because there is the epigraph that says how Mira can produce a ward/shield only under extreme emotion reaction which in this instance I think is what happens when she has to or they die kinda thing.
And maybe it’s just me but I think Xaden was trying to be a typical man making a sex joke about her being curled up in his bed trying to lighten the mood…or maybe that’s just my husband who thinks those kinda comments will be funny 🫣🤣🤣🤣
This and later on, at Basgiath, she says she can produce her on wards without Violet.
Ok theory running through my head... What if Xaden's mom is actually Queen Maraya? The epigraph in 41 states she has no heir and named her cousin heir. We know Fen was in a contractual marriage with someone, stating she couldn't leave until Fens heir was 10. And xaden doesn't have siblings. Cat is so focused on a crown- could the tyrrendor crown not be the one she is fixated on because she knows who Xadens mom is ... Since she is close to her uncle who is a distant cousin of the queen... And she left Fen and Xaden to resume her role as queen. Also this connects Fen with Viscount.
Wouldn’t that make Cat and Xaden related?

Xaden is morally gray and he has never really presented as anything else so it’s expected that he will do some questionable things, IMO the hate towards Dain comes from him presenting has a good guy but is not really. he gives total “I care for you” but “only if you are weak and I can be your hero” vibes.
I find interesting Xaden do some things Dain did and gets not as much hate from fans, not just the overprotection but the reading.
I think that it is just the circumstances at play. Xaden read her only when, from what he said, it was almost life or death. He also didn't use that knowledge to betray her and get her friend killed.

About Brennan and refusing to give the book to Violet. I wonder if it's a decison the whole Council has made and not just him. In a previous episode, it was said that some of the Assembly members didn't trust Violet, more than 4, I think, and since we need 4 members for majority, maybe it was why she wasn't allowed to read the book but maybe I'm looking too far into it.
Also, I just want to know because I don't see a lot of people with this opinion. 😂 Am I the only one who love Brennan (even with his secrets) ? He actually became my favorite character.

Chapter 37 4th Wing- A venin told her such un tapped power. No wonder we were called here. that you could command the sky to surrender its power and you wouldn't even know what to do with it. Do you? Riders never do.
What if it means she can draw from the sky and not turn venin. Like the venin draw from the earth. So violet could have power besides that she gets from Tairn or Andarna.
My guess is that the Violet will destroy the wards to set everyone free. But she will also have to destroy all bonds to be able to defeat the venin. Destroy the venins bond to power, the griffins bond to fliers, and the dragons bonds to riders. A great and terrible price.

At the end in Xaden's POV chapter when he is talking to Jack he said he would get the Rybestad chest to put Jack in. So i assumed it wasn't destroyed and in Corydon.
I had thought the same and was confused, but during my reread, I caught that the Venin had thrown the chest at them after she had struck it
@@lf1257 it does say the venim throws it but doesn't indicate it broke so when Xaden says he will go get it, I assumed it didn't break when it threw it.
I meant I had also thought it broke when she struck it. The end had confused me when he mentioned retrieving the chest. It wasn’t until my next read through when I figured out it wasn’t actually destroyed because I finally caught that he had thrown it 😂

I don't think a shield works for Poromil mind gifts. When on the mat and Cat is using her gift, Xaden has to move Violet because physical distance is the only way to stop being effective

Correct me if I’m wrong but, with shields… doesn’t violet and xaden have the ability to shield and still talk mind to mind because of the bond they have with eachother through their dragons? Like their shields can be up and they still can speak. Like later after vi knows about his mind signet they speak mind to mind during their meeting in the forest with leadership. Vi asked xaden if he can tell what their thinking and xaden says their shields are all up except the one who’s scared and hungry.
Violet seems to be connected to Xaden, Tairn, and Andarna while also having up what I guess her main shields are. I think it’s selective like her descriptions of the doors and which ones shes keeping open. She did block Tairn out when talking with Andarna about her being a 7th breed, and she shut Andarna out when her and Tairn were talking about Andarnas wing. Maybe the bonds are different because they are ingrained within them but can still be shielded against when needed
Runes next episode, how were they made/found in the beginning? Need magic to make the thread to craft the rune. But the first 6 were accepted by dragons only because they could make runes to build the wardstone. And the runes are basically an old language? Like amplify sound forward. Why only the old language for runes.
They’ve said magic is wilder outside of the wards, maybe that allowed them to make runes prior to the first 6?

I was way off base. I 100% thought the viscount was the leader of the Venin. I thought he brought them there to see what their powers were. I also thought the “traps” were more of a lure like it has special power that pulls in the venin and gives them more power when they get it. I also thought at this point that Xaden went ahead to broker a deal and gave himself to viscount to keep her safe. Then got pissed when viscount pull the chest shit. Viscount let them go way too easily and didn’t get much considering what he was wanting.
Cat words: I want that crown
Cat actions: I want that man
Honestly what did Cat think was going to happen? Did she think Violet was going to break up with Xaden because she was being cruel? And even if Violet broke up with Xaden, they would have already gotten the luminary and Xaden wouldn't get back together with Cat.
Her entire plot didn't make much sense to me. Cat clearly felt something for Xaden and it wasn't reciprocated because if he felt something for her, Xaden would have stayed with Cat even after rejecting the alliance. Violet cared more about Cat than Xaden.
Rebecca tried to do something and it didn't work. Honestly tell me if you think Violet's ex would come up to Xaden and say "you should change your clothes because Violet doesn't like that color"? The way Cat was attacking Violet made me think of a spoiled 15 year old girl and even her sister and friends were telling her to stop because it was getting ridiculous. This plot would have worked if Cat didn't have feelings for Xaden and found another way to attack Violet that didn't involve this man because out of ten words that came out of Cat's mouth, five were about Xaden.
I thought it made since. I viewed cat as jealous of Vi. Even if she didn’t feel a love for xaden she felt a deep love for his standing and cat wanted that throne more then anything. She attacked violet in the way her mind powers allowed her to and the fact that cat knew violet was insecure made it all the more easier for cat and made it prevent in her way to get under violets skin.

I agree with you even when Cat said she just wanted the crown I was not convinced. But after seen Rebecca’s interview I was oh I did not get that. I also think that even if it was a man doing what Cat I was doing I still would not like the character. Like Dain was touching Violets face and I dislike him more than Cat.
