By looking at your video I went and bought it and finally unscrewed my stripped 17mm bolt from tensioner. And cancelled $69 rocket socket. You save me 30 bucks. Thank you
That's Great!
Glad I could save you some money😊, Thanks for Sharing!👍
@Adam B same size. once you tap it in it grips.
These sockets don't work for shit
i just paid like 40 for the same set. INFLATION
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I had a striped bolt on our garden bench and after seeing this video, I went out and bought myself a set, and it worked out great. Thanks again!
Thank You, Angel,👍
I Appreciate it. Glad the tool worked for you.😊
bought this set 2 days ago saved my bacon on a ford drain plug today well worth the money.
Ahh stripped drain plug head, no fun.
That's funny i had the same problem with my ford. I had everything in place but that stupid drain plug was tightened by Hercules himself.
I just bought the metric ones worked great for me .
👍 Yep, I think they will come in very handy. Thanks for your Comment.
thanks for showing the grinding of the bolt and tool use ,,, and thanks for using your own garage ,i hate the perfect garage people how never show the prossess
You're Welcome!
Thanks👍
The set just saved my butt thumbs up for the tool don't knock it till u try it
Thanks for Sharing👍
I hope these work on a rounded alternator bolt.
Just got these to remove a rounded egr bolt , came off first go I've used it loads of times since .... exhaust manifold , break caliper bolts etc . Great kit and good review
I know I couldn't believe how well these work. Thank's for your compliment and testimonial. 👍 Take Care!
I purchased a Craftsman Worm drive saw at a pawn shop ..great condition for a good price...changed the oil...though the arbor bolt was stripped...this is exactly what I needed to see. Thank You.
Hi Kenneth,
You're Welcome! Thanks for sharing!👍
Thanks for the video pops was worried I would mess a bolt up more this video definitely gave me more confidence
You're Welcome👍
Thanks for the review.
Just a note though, using a torque wrench for a breaker bar may throw out the calibration.
I just used it this way for the video, but thanks I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the feedback👍 and Take Care!
These are definitely better than similar ones at auto parts stores, Homedepot and Lowes with less bite. I'm getting a set today. If they don't work, I'll get the spiral design bite ones that take out completely round nuts. I used a single spiral extractor to remove wheel "lock" lug nuts on each wheel on a used truck I bought. The problem with the spiral kind is removing the bolt or nut since they really dig in.
Thanks for the review.... shopping for these now!
You're Welcome! I hope these help you out.
Used the 12 mm to remove a rounded off lower ac compressor bolt on an Acura, literally a life saver.
Hi Robert,
Great tool to have, Thanks for Sharing!👍
Yep, this set really works well. I had rounded 12mm bolt. Spray some pb blaster, wiped the head, used 12mm extractor and out it comes. This will extractor set will come in handy in the future in this rust belt.
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for confirmation and comment 👍. Take Care!
I have oil drain bolt stripped on Honda Civic so I consider this kit after your video. I'll give it a try and let you know.
Thank you for your share
Thanks, Yes please let me know how it works. Try the next smaller size socket if it just rounds it off.
Good Luck👍
Honestly I have to say that this set has definitely surpassed my expectations. They work period. The one you will use the most is the 10mm
Thanks for Sharing and your feedback!👍
great help
Cool mister. I will give them a shot I rounded a transmission bracket bolt a little. This should do the trick. Thanks.
Thanks!
Let us know how if it does the job!
Update: It was a 12 bolt that was really badly striped, the 12 extractor die didn't work. It still span. So I used the 11 extractor and hammered it on. At first I had it on an extension but wouldn't go in so I hammered the die itself. Came off no problem using the forced 11, but now I have a bolt stuck in the die hahahaha. It worked though. Thanks.
@@garryoak Thanks for the update!👍
Glad it worked for you!😊
These straight type work better if you select a size that fits very tight and needs a little tap to get fully on the hex. That’s especially true on old rusted bolts.
👍
It worked perfectly thank you
Is was my oil pan bolt
Hi abraham, Awesome!
Thanks for sharing!👍
Works well best to have both the SAE and metric set and hammer on for a tight fit
I don't run into too many SAE nuts and bolts anymore, but a good hammer is a must.
Thanks for watching and for your feedback.👍🙏😊
What size should i use for a 15mm?
Try and hammer on the 14mm
I need to get this set for stripped caliber bolt
It's a Good set to have, they do the Job!
I've been trying to get a rounded off 10mm bolt off a starter fir about a week now. Bought these extractor sockets a fee days ago, it doesn't want to grab it. At this point I feel like I should just get a fluxcore welder abd weld a nut to it its driving me insane. Entire engine replacment being held up by 1 dang bolt.
That sucks! Try pounding a 9mm socket on it. Might just fit snug enough to get it off.
Looks legit 👌🏽, I wonder if this would work with the caliper bolt. Cus that crap it's stuck there
It's worth a shot, I'd spray it up real good with some penetrating fluid and let it sit overnight.
Then the size socket that is slightly smaller, and hammer it on, that should help to get a good grip on the bolt head.
Good Luck!🤞
@@WhipCityWrencher awesome, I'll give it a shot! appreciate your time🤙🏽
@@redjstc9123 Let me know how it comes out.
Thx , on my list
👍 Their a good tool to have around.
Would these work to remove a stripped 15mm top strut nut from a 06 f150
These are short sockets so if there are a lot of threads coming out of that strut bolt these may not work.
I have a stripped 5mm hex nut/screw.
Do I use a 5mm Extractor? Or is the extractor size based on the bolt head circumference?
Tks!
Hi John,
It all depends on how stripped it is and how much metal is missing from the top of the bolt head. It's best to use the size that will barely start to fit, then tap/pound it on the rest of the way with a hammer so that it fits on real tight. Let me know how it turns out.
@@WhipCityWrencher tks!
Will it remove a bolt that the head broke off
Hi Jon,
I don't think so, I've never tried it but that's not what the tool was intended for.
Do they have them in 1/2i inch drive? Broke my 1/2-3/8 adapter trying to take off a tight lug bolt on my car
Sorry I don't think so at least not at Harbor Freight.
Big problem I have .. what about a 15mm nut/bolt.. I can't find any bolt extractor that size
Try and hammer on the 14mm socket, it may fit.
I just need to know the sizes included in this set. The closest Harbor Freight to me is almost 30 miles away, and if it doesnt include the 4 sizes I need, then its not even worh the drive.
The sizes are 8,10,11,12,13,14,16,17,19mm. I don't know why they skip the 15 and 18mm? Maybe the 14 and 17mm would work for that missing size.
@@WhipCityWrencher Thats actually perfect. My car is mostly 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm with a few 18mm for the exhaust which are all maybe a year old and a 17mm for the oil drain plug (weird, I know. Lol).
Tyvm for the info.
@@coryholden666 You're Welcome👍
You sound like Sargeant Stadenko from Cheech and Chong. Love it. These sockets are supposed to be good for aluminium nuts on motorcycle engines and forks.
lol 🤣
I've never tried them on aluminum nuts, but you are probably correct as they would dig into the softer aluminum. Thanks for sharing that tip👍
What does HF ask for a set of those?

Did you use a 14 mm extractor on your video or did you use SAE size? I'm having trouble with a tensioner bolt on a honda B-20 engine in a 1997 CRV and they went crazy with the torquing of these bolts, whoever did this job the last time.. The dewalt set didn't work on the last shoulder bolt holding the plastic belt cover so I got my dremel and cut around the plastic ear to get the cover off. There is absolutely no working room on the front of this engine to hammer anything on the tensioner. The bolt isn't mangled, but it is rounded, and I used a 6 point socket when I tried to breAk it.
Hi sorry to hear about your problem. The video was made over 9 months ago, and I don't really remember what size it was for sure, but it was metric because that's the only set I bought so far. Most every bolt you run into is going to be metric. Try the one that goes on the tightest that's about all I can tell you. I know if there's not much room it doesn't work as well. Sometimes hitting the head will shock it and help get it loose. Without seeing the bolt I can't give you much advice, but if it's safe to do so some heat with a small torch may help or spraying it up real good with some penetrating fluid every once and awhile and let it sit for a day can't hurt. Good Luck! and Let me know how you make out.
Whip City Wrencher I’m going to Get the set from Harbor Freight if I may just get the Husky version at Home Depot because HF is almost.a 2 he round trip from my house. The husky set is in stock and has a 14 mm and a 13 mm in the set. I’ve already soaked it with PB Blaster and will give it another shot before bed. Thanks for getting back with me and I’ll let u know how it turns out. Several bolts are missing on the front of the motor, including one of the motor mount bracket bolts and the main alternator bolt. Shame on whoever did the timing belt the last time.
@@plumkey197 Hope it comes off with the extractor. If you can also hit the head of the bolt with a hammer a few times it may help. Good Luck!
Hate that overtightened shit. These dicks sometimes use lock tight too.
@@redtobertshateshandles Well, Honda bolts suck to begin with, because of their tendency to Round off. The tensioner bolt on this vehicle had already been rounded some by the previous owner or his mechanic. I had to end up getting my angle grinder and Dremel to cut a couple of places where I could use my air hammer with the chisel tip to break the Loctite. This was a grade 8 bolt and took a lot of grinding To cut a couple of slits. The replacement bolt was $12 and some change at the Honda dealership. The prior owner also had Loctite on the plastic timing cover and I had to spend more time than I would’ve liked to get those bolts loose. The dude at the parts desk at Honda dealership gave me a handful of those shoulder bolts That they had in the shop. I don’t really use Loctite very often on engine parts, especially when they’re torqued down to spec, and then the rare instance that I do, I use the medium grip so that it comes apart without rounding anything. Either that or just a simple lock washer. 40 years of working on vehicles and I’ve never had any bolts back out on any jobs I’ve done - And I wanna keep it that way.
Nice test. I'm having trouble with my stuck 14mm oil pan plug. It doesn't seem to be completely stripped - yet; I can get the ratchet on it, but the plug won't budge an inch (or a mm!). I sprayed some WD40 on it and waited about 10 minutes. Do you think I should use more and wait longer? I've come across suggestions that say wait several hours.
I'd spray it up good wait a hour or so and if you can still get a regular socket on it instead of cranking on it by hand, hit the ratchet with a hammer giving it small blows it may break it loose. If it's totally rounded off you may try a chisel on the side of the bolt with small blows. I don't know car ? If it has an cast aluminum oil pan be careful as not to crack it. Have a new drain plug bolt ready. Also slightly tapping the head of the bolt may shock it and come off easier. Good Luck!
hay hay 3 years later ,, hope you know this by now ,, get pb blast for rusted and tight bolts ,,and get a breaker bar
I gotta set works great sucks when you lose them
Hi Eric!
Thanks for sharing!
Oil Filter Friday,
Watch a new automotive oil filter inspection video every Friday on this channel.
Damn no luck for me. Will not grip the bolt at all. Don't know if any more options cause theres not much room where the bolt is. (Shift linkage bolts)
Did you try using the next smallest size and force it on with a hammer? Also you could try a sae size and force a in between size on. Let us know how you make out. Good Luck!
@@WhipCityWrencher no i havent try that but will as soon as i have the time. Thank you for the tips and for replying
@@JohnDoe-cs5uo 👍
If you can't use a hammer, try a c clamp. They have to get a good bite. Those bolts are tight lol. Shoot PB in there too
@@igguka Good advice 👍
Should never use your torque wrench for a ratchet, tells you that in the directions
I don't, but for this video it was necessary.
Who uses a torque wrench to remove bolts. Buy a real 1/2 inch ratchet.
LOL,
I have several 1/2" wrenches. I was just showing how much I was tightening the nut.
These sets dont work well ive tried it and they just spin... Definitely do not buy these sockets go with irwin
Only a dingleberry breaks a bolt free with a torque wrench.
Its a video
don't buy they suck.Yes it is better than nothing .Buy a better set name brand
Which name brand are you referring to?
I've only had to use these a few times but they worked well for me.
@@WhipCityWrencher I bought the Harbor freight set it is terrible. I also bought a Chinese set It was OK I also have an old sears Craftsman which works the ok but I wore it out Now I'm gonna go buy an Irwin set irwin makes the set for snap on.
@@aldonco Go for it. You may have something there. You'll probably pay more, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Let me know how they work for you. Thanks!👍😊
