  • With a triple digit forecast forecast projected, I decided to head into the forest and do some trail maintenance at one of my favorite overnight spots, Siouxon Creek! Much of the riding on Day 1 was terrible along a busy highway with no shoulder, but getting to camp at Siouxon and ride through this beautiful area made it all worth it!
    I brought my new Silky Gomboy saw to do some trail maintenance along the way and it was great!
    Hope you enjoy the video!

    Just watched this after seeing news of a new fire in Siouxon this week. So glad I had the chance to ride there several years ago, when it was still pristine, and again last October, almost a year to date. A very special place, scarred or not.

      This is such a great trail! It was closed again this year due to another fire... I hope I can get back in 2024.

    Thanks for the trail work, we were on the Siouxon in August. You are super brave riding those roads, I would not even consider it! I have the Silky Big Boy, love it for carrying the pack. Hadn't thought about the lighter one, might have to pick that one up, too. :)

    This is one of my favorite trails in the area. I’ve hiked and backpacked it a many times but I have yet to bike it. I believe it’s closed right now due to more wildfire damage but when it re opens I will make an overnighter of it for sure.
    Also it blows my mind you don’t have at least 100k followers. Your content is awesome.

      Hey Sean! This is an awesome bikepacking trip! I checked a week or so ago and you're right, there are closures due to last years wildfires. I am keeping my eye on it and am prepared to go out there with my Silky Saw to have some fun and try to clean up the trial a bit! Appreciate the kind words, maybe ill see you out on the trails!

    Nicely done and thanks for doing more trail maintenance. One hundred degree temps in that part of the world is very unusual however, hope the river wasn't too chilly.

    I picked up a Gomboy 240 last winter for winter camping. It’s so good! Nice ride Chris. I saw you and Rib rolling through Bend a few weeks ago and it inspired me to get out on a bike packing overnight. Thanks again!

      It's such a great saw! I was almost seduced to get the Big Boy! I still kind of want one since they are so awesome... I just need to scam Rob to get one haha. That is awesome you saw us cruising through Bend! Where did you spot us? Also congrats on getting out for an overnighter! Where did you end up going? I can't wait to get back down to Bend and do this route: bikepacking.com/routes/high-cascades-overnighter/

      Thanks for watching man! Awesome I love that area, I looked at Gaia and I think Rob and I rode along the road you are talking (Forest road 4600-370) about a few years ago. The route we mapped crushed us and we didn't up making a video since we were too focused on just surviving the ride! haha. That area along broken top is epic!

    I love this trail and was so sad to hear about the burn in '20. from this, and VOTR youtube channel, it's good to see there's a lot of nature left there. I hope to finally check out the very East trailhead this season (I've ridden OAB up to the the flat section just before the switchbacks at the start on the east side but had to turn around due to disappearing light. i ended up getting hit in the face by a bat on the ride back anyway.) I'll definitely bring my Silky. Any pointers on where to start looking into Tenkara (sp) fishing/gear?

    • @pnwbikepacking
      @pnwbikepacking  2 года назад

      Ahh hit in the face by a bat!??!!? This trail is still stunning and the east side is great, you'll be stoked! I'd checkout the Tenkara subreddit as a starting point. I started with the Dragontail Shadowfire which has worked great! www.amazon.com/DRAGONtail-Shadowfire-365-Tenkara-Fishing/dp/B079HDPL9Q

      Hey Jason, I was using the Platypus quickdraw. I've used it in the last 3 trips and so far I like it. We'll see how long it lasts though... these types of filter seem to get clogged pretty easily.

    Beautiful area! How are the Astrals to ride in?

    • @pnwbikepacking
      @pnwbikepacking  2 года назад

      I think you're referring to the Astral rassler 2.0 shoes. Frankly I thought they were pretty great, especially for a shoe designed for kayaking. My most recent bikepacking shoe has been the Ride Concepts Livewire, they have held up really well. I got the Astrals for bikerafting and thought they were just fine. I am not super particular about my footwear, I just don't want it to fall apart and start delaminating after a few months. Haven't owned the Astrals long enough to comment on durability, I bet my flat pedals will chew them up though.
