Rob and I have talked about linking a bike ride up to a mountain climb for a long time. This wasn't the trip that we dreamt up 5 years ago... but its a start. In the video Rob calls out riding to Rainier and summiting that... maybe in 2023! For this trip, I started in Trout Lake WA, so it was a short bike ride. Rob started a few days before me and left from Portland!
This was done in Late September. Hope you enjoy the video

Good luck finding a Rob. They are wild, disheveled, and will test your patience, but they are pretty fun to ride bikes with.

Nice video and we'll done. I really enjoyed doing Adams a few years ago.
I've been doing mountaineering by bike for 20 years. My first effort was Olympia to Mt. Shasta when I was 41. I did again last June from Klamath Falls. My last one was White Mountain from Deep Springs College last September. I've never seen anyone else do summits by bike. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! Would love to hear more about the route from Olympia to Shasta! Rob and I want to do more climbing / riding combos.

@@pnwbikepacking In 2002 I rode from Olympia on my mountain bike towing a Bob trailer. I traveled West from Oly on 101 to Aberdeen; S. to Astoria (the bridge was intense); Down the coast to Newport; Over to Crater Lake; and Down to Shasta. I then rode up to and camped at Bunny Flat and at 1am headed for the summit as a one day push.
Since then I've done one or two summits a year by bikepacking. This year, however, I have a few (8 or 9) more bikepacking/mountaineering (and skimo too) planned including Ojos del Salado.
I'm in my 60s now so this stuff is getting slower, and with more recovery time.

Hey Karl, I agree, Rob and I are both lucky to have each other as adventure partners. A lot of the time Rob and I are riding at different paces. In the morning I am usually in front, in the evening Rob is crushing me. Sometimes we are out of each others sight line too! There have been many trips where one of us has a bad day so we end up calling it early. I started bikepacking solo! You'll find your Rob!
