Classic Game Room HD review FROGGER for Atari 5200, is this version of Frogger better than the Atari 2600, ColecoVision or arcade version? (Nooooooo!) Not even close, but it is still FROGGGGGAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! Old one yes, this would be a good game if the 5200 controllers werent incapable of actually controlling video games. The designers of Frogger who brought it to the 5200 tried to make the game work on the dreadful 5200 analog, button breaking piece of junk. You can play Frogger with the joystick and button or try playing it with the keypad. Either way it sucks, stick with other versions of Frogger. There are many to choose from. This CGR review of Frogger has gameplay from Frogger on Atari 5200 showing old school Atari Frogger game play in action as Frogger tries to cross the road but gets mangled because the 5200 controller is against him.

this was the first version of Frogger I ever played and I loved it back then.
I just realised if you hit 0 on the keypad it activates the keypad for movement. That way it turns it to digital control and no more needing a jump button
Best looking version of Frogger, better than Arcade...Hell, best looking 5200 game. The Colecovision Frogger was the best version though because it sounds and controls better.
Frogger was one of the first games I played growing up.
One of my top 5 favorite Atari games during the early-mid 1980s(that intro music of the game gave me flashback memories to my 5th grade year in '84).
It works OK emulated on Original Xbox, but you still have to push A with the direction pad.

My family was pretty big into Atari. We had a 2600, at least two different diskette-based systems (one was the 800), and yes, the 5200 and it's awful controller.
And I watched this review, remembering that we got my grandma to try a video game. Frogger... on the 5200. I remember hearing her "oh shoot" &c. coming down the hallway at about 1 in the morning, she just couldn't sleep until she got it (she never did). Thinking back, that was cruel of us. I should remind her of that experience, ha!
I thought the controls were fine. The game isn't bad because you might have a keypad that isn't working. I just got the 5200 version of Frogger and my controller works. The keypad controllers are great.
i like to play games like this on the arcade machine, which i have in my bedroom, since you know.. i am kickass

My parents splurged to get me Atari 5200 when it was first released and what a hunka hunka burning shit! The system was cool and many games but those controllers should've been shoved up the ass of the person who designed them...what a shame!
good points.. Yeah, I have had many good times with my various Nintendo consoles also, but the Wii just grinds my ass. Although it would've made no commercial sense, I woulda been happy for them to stick with the GCN and make some decent games.
What? The only fans in the 360 are the pair on the rear. But yeah, it definitely reduces the venting quite a bit.
Intec makes a stand that uses fans to increase air intake while having your 360 vertical.
My mom used to play too and she wasnt too bad, though i could usually kill her off by yelling "jump!" when a car was coming. If i left her alone though, she did pretty good.

It's too bad they messed this version up. I have it on the Colecovision and that version is a lot of fun. I also notice there's barely any music in this version! That's a shame; the music in the Colecovision version is so cute and charming
This is perfectly accurate, he's playing on a 5200 not an emulator.
yo tell me if u want but i have a 5200 controller i built and it has a switch wjhere the joystick directions press the keypad key with a joystick just put it on keypad mode

Hmm, i would have given a slightly different review. I got pretty good as a kid playing with the joystick, but i could kick serious butt with the numeric keypad. The key was to use your thumbs like when you are texting. The numeric keypad buttons usually worked as they wern't used as much as the start/pause/reset buttons and the fire buttons. Worked great and i loved this version.

Kinda looks a lot like the C64 version done by Sierra execpt the frog isn't white in this version, hell even the opening level music is the same

Rodan vs. Frogger? hmm that's actually not a bad idea.
Then again, one can play the arcade version in MAME. How about ColecoVision and C64 versions - they don't look much different.

I had this game for the Atari 5200 and had no problems with the controls. I actually enjoyed the way it was setup. 5200 controllers were my favorite at that time; I liked the way they looked and felt.
Space Dungeon is another good game for the system.

Im not saying it's not accurate or he's not playing on the 5200, but I'm saying most people will play this on their computer nowadays and the controller issues are a a thing of the past.

Well of course Rodan would win but I'm not too sure you could call him a bird per say... I mean his wings are bat like, he's a pterodactyl, but then again flies and overall looks birdlike. XD

the frogger theme is quite catchy but the 5200 game is crappy

Most people would not play this game with the 5200 controller anymore. Now with the ability for all atari games to be played on a good controller and your PC, this review is not accurate. This game at the time was the only Frogger that looked and played like the original Frogger game.
