  • Are you having trouble connecting your Korg devices to your PC after the Windows 10 May 2019 Update? Many users faced issues with Korg USB drivers, but there's good news-most modern Korg devices now work seamlessly with Windows' native USB drivers, eliminating the need for specific Korg drivers in many cases.
In this updated video, I’ll guide you through:
Using Native Windows Drivers: How to connect your Korg Minilogue, Modwave, and other devices using Windows' built-in drivers.
Updating Korg Drivers: Ensure you have the latest Korg drivers if you prefer to use them, and what to do if you still encounter issues.
Registry Fixes: Step-by-step instructions on adjusting MIDI slots in the registry if needed, to restore functionality if you’re experiencing problems.
I’ve personally tested these solutions with devices from 2016 to 2022, including the Korg Minilogue and Modwave. This video also includes a link to my original guide on registry changes for older drivers.

If anyone is still having problems. Use the KORG uninstall tool to uninstall any midi slot that is getting in the way of the KORG Drivers (0-9), the KORG drivers will move into the slots emptied and the other MIDI devices will reinstall in the other slots. It's a bit of a puzzle but eventually the KORG gear will inhabit slots 0-9. To do this uncheck the "only Remove KORG devices" checkbox in the "Options" button. After pulling my hair out for a week and with the help of this video I found the non-registry solution as windows audio system had inhabited midi 1-10 in the reg edit making that method impossible. However, some devices are greyed out (hardware) if these need to be removed you will have to reinstall those devices after the KORG devices. Also a side note it's only KORG devices that need to be in slots 0-9, other midi devices will work fine in slots 10-19 and should show up in your DAW.

I really appreciate this information. It did not resolve my specific problem, but it did give me some ideas about what to do. My sole Korg device was in midi 12/13 slot. I followed the registry change advice and found that I could not add in the Alias (midi1) once I got to the System32 section. I looked at the "Uninstall Korg USB-MIDI device" list and realized that I had inadvertently installed the audio driver for my graphics card (NVDIA). I reinstalled the graphics driver minus the audio driver. This freed up the midi slots. Now the Korg works. It's still a mystery to me, but I do appreciate the work you have done. Thank you.

See my post above, that should de-mystify what's going on and you won't have to uninstall/reinstall hardware. That being said sometimes uninstalling hardware will be the only option.

@@frankenjstein9371 Yes, but I didn’t need to uninstall/reinstall hardware, just the graphics card driver. But having you go through the explanation gave me the inspiration to pursue the option that ultimately worked for me.

Hey All, just discovered all of Ian's videos and they are very useful. Alas with the variety of complexities of drivers, platforms and updates it is not always so simple. I'm on Windows 11and I have a Nano Kontrol2, an Akai LPD8 and an old midi Yamaha keyboard, which I like and which I don't really want to change. Just got back into reason and treated myself to Reason 12 and fuppin luvs it. Having the three devices is great and also now you can record into reason so no lead to link it into something else, still figuring out how to get my tasty VSTs into it but that will come.
Anyway, just to say that I tried the reg edit, the updated and removing Korg software and then just removed the other Akai and Yamaha driver and added the Korg one first which allowed it to be in the top ten and then loaded the others and voila, back in business babay. Thanks Ian for your adept knowledge and framework of understanding, I do like my wee Korg Nano Kontroller 2 and it helps with the workflow and to replace it wasn't going to be as portable, simple or as cost effective which is the name of the game sometimes.
Gonna go work on some tunes now that I have managed to clim out of this midi (k) hole. :-)

So, yesterday I did a fresh install of my PC and installed the korg driver right away. It still appears as device 11 this time. I mean the front page is all devices for the internal realtek sound chip and nvidia of all things. I don't know why Nvidia creates midi ports but it does. Once again at a complete loss, especially because this is all KORG's fault, as the limit was removed in Windows years ago and Korg just refuse to update to the new Windows 10/11 standard. The problem is that the Korg driver is multiclient and the Windows factory one is not, which means I am constantly having to close and open apps and it's tiresome indeed. So I tried removing devices as per this video, and the korg utility is not removing them *anyway*. After I press finish and reboot, they are right back where they started. I am at a complete and utter loss - if anyone has any ideas, please....

Thanks, I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my korg midi driver wasn't connecting my device. I will add I did not need to alter the registry, I just deleted some of the midi drivers in the list of slots, some in the list were old devices and also unknown just called USB 2 Audio Device. Also my Korg driver was 16 in my list, I deleted four which would have logically meant it would go to 12 but one of the ones' I deleted was in slot 2 and on restart the Korg Driver went in slot 2. So that process may help someone. I think Korg have a lot to answer for not explaining this issue, they do mention it in the "Notes" on the download page but give no explanation or clue how to fix it or even how big an issue it can be, tiny writing on a huge empty download page. Thanks again coz I was ready to send my device back.

When I have my Korg PA5X connected, all I see is "Generic USB MIDI". I have the latest KORG USB-MIDI Driver Tools for Windows (1.15.5101) installed. No idea why it doesn't show KORG in Device Manager? I'm on the latest version of Windows 11 - 10.0.22631. I read thru the many very angry KORG customers regarding this drive 10 MIDI device limit that is ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY a KORG problem. Was hoping it would be fixed by now ... but there still seems to be issues? Is a class action lawsuit really the only option to motivate KORG into doing something?

Hi If you are still having issue with this, this is something you need to change in the kontrol editor. I had a pain getting it to work but eventually it did. However now my nanokontrol has been bumped down to below slot 10. So maybe this is your issue? Have you installed the korg drivers? If you haven't maybe that's why the editor won't find it, and if you have maybe it is due to the slot number? But those are guesses.
