Hi Michael you remind me of my grandpa when we went fishing. My dad and i love your vids so cool you fish the way it is we all make mistakes when fishing. but you make it fun to watch we like all your locations you go to. we come from Dumfries and Galloway and we a blessed by some of the best sea fishing about. i know you fished the mull of Galloway some time ago have you thought of revisiting the area. If so try the flat rock or just further up you have the wall running down from the car park just to the left of the wall is a good spot you can catch up to 8/9 types of fish and that's on a bad day like summer time the count goes up. All the best on your fishing trips keep making them look forward to your next one.
Thank you for that Craig, it's good to make mistakes it's how you learn well that's the way i look on it. I was looking forward to coming over to Mull for a few days but all my holidays are taken up with a month long trip to the states in 3 weeks time. I like the sound of that spot with the variety of fish that kind of fishing appeals to me. No worries the videos will keep coming.
Thanks for the video Michael, and a very well done on your donation to RNLI Arbroath, at least you were still laughing about the flat battery. Tight lines and look forward to the next vid. Scott
Thank you Scott, the donation is only one way i give money i normally try and pay a visit to the shops in the passing. You've got to laugh but my brother saved me i hate to say but he's done that a couple of times. I'm going to get one of those portable machines for jump starting cars.
Hi Micheal watched your video from methil and wanted to know if you can let me how to make a rig like that you use as i have been learning how to do t tie lines but no sure on the lenth where weight and hook with bait
Till about two years syne, had a fast boat here in St Andrews harbour, fished the bay - out to May Island on occasion. Mostly up to mile off Kingsbarns. I've never had a wrasse from the shore. Up to a touch over 4lb off Kingsbarns, pollack up to dead-on 10lbs, cod to a touch over 6lb but that was unusual - those most commonly 2-5lbs. Mackerel this last fifteen years or so have all been stuffed with parasitic worms, some with thousands in beside their gut. You're certainly among the fish at Methil, better a few smaller ones than one or two bigger ones?
Thanks for that Ian, I keep meaning to get back to Kingsbarns been a couple of years since i fished that. As for the size of fish yes i would like to get decent sizes but as long as i am catching fish i'm a happy angler. One day i'll get the big ones only a matter of time.
Pity we hadn't sort of bumped into each other when we still had the Sheltie, could easily have taken you out to let you drift the reefs up to a mile or two out. Latterly I was more interested in the several creels we used to lay. I miss the lobsters and the partans more than the cod! Nice videos you're making Michael, you're obviously a dedicated man.
I did get out a couple of times with a guy from St Andrews, i think it was his wife that run the small cafe down there but he gave up due to ill health as far as i am aware. We had a bit of a disaster when we got ropes trapped around prop and had to land at Kingsbarns to free it. It's been a few years since i was out in a boat from anywhere. When i lived in Buckhaven used to get out with guys from Leven and Buckhaven. I've had a few offers to go out in boats from a few guys so maybe one day it makes a change . When i first did the videos it was mainly for fun but now it's a bit more serious but i still have a good time fishing.
That's Bill Dodds took you out. Bill was one of the best, very respected man at the harbour. Way before I was married back around 1980 or so Bill took me out too. He died quite recently after being quite ill for a longish while. Pat's still running the cafe, glad to see that. You always get a welcome at her place and the burgers tasted all the better for being eaten in salt air! Pat always knows what's going on at the harbour... Tight Lines Michael.
Another quality video Michael, a was fishing down at the docks on Thursday only caught a tiny pouting ( used it as bait ) but cousin managed 3 codling and a wrasse but not much mackerel in the last few sessions and when you do get them there very small.
Thank you Graham, i was talking to a few guys down there and they said there was a few mackies about a couple of days ago but they are not around in big numbers and as you said they are a bit on the small side. They will pick up soon i hope.
enjoyed that video mate considering going up that area this week, watching this has gave me some ideas, nice one donationg to RNLI, you just gained a new sub,
Thank you Paul glad you enjoy the video, hope you get a few fish when you're up that way. I'll have to get the Rnli monies sorted out due end of month. I've done this for past couple of years but they get a lot more than that from me, they need all they can get.
Great video Michael and we'll done on the donation to the RNLI hopefully we never need them but good to know they are there if we do that's my gear packed and ready for fishing tomorrow going to dumfries and Galloway again. tight lines
Thanks John. Yes it's good to know they are there but the less they are used the better i feel. I wish i was heading over that way but with my holidays gone it will be next year i think.
Thank you Jakub, i don't catch fish every time i go out and i've got the videos to prove it lol. But casting close into the wall is good but when the tide gets down to a certain point beware the waves will take you into the wall and then you start loosing gear.
Hi Michael, how does Methil fish at this time of year?, I fancy fishing it as I’ve never fished it before, maybe see you there sometime and get a cast!
Well it's coming into the cod season now so should get a few of the wall there but as i say you don't need to cast to far out there. I never know where i am going fishing but will be back down there sometime soon.
Hi, Michael. Im a new subscriber and fisherman. Can u tell me what size hooks you were using that day. Glad to see local videos of fishing also🏴. Thanks
Surprised you never caught anything during the winter the cod should have been around. Bait i use and catch with is normally mackie bluey lugworm and ragworm. Should be able to get cod coalfish maybe wrasse but might be a bit early for them also smaller species. You shouldn't need to cast to far out from there.
Love your vids Michael. Look forward to every one keep it up.
Thank you Kwim, glad to hear you enjoy them.

If you are looking for more videos sorry but i'm on holiday abroad for around a month , but believe me when i get back will get more videos up.

Michael can remember Tam Bradford who was the king fisherman at Methil and Buckhind in the 80s and 90s before he died
Yes i used to fish with him.

Michael Bird you didn't miss much today it was quite windy and the sea was a bit to hashy for my liking but still had plenty of dog fish and a codling
As long as you got a few fish, the weather will be right for you...sometime soon i hope , tight lines.
Cracking session Michael, glad to see you getting amongst a few
Thank you Phil, made a change from my last visit there.
Wondered where you'd gone, hope you're having a good time
Good session.. Ive blanked that day.. As u said, just drop the line few feet behind the wall instead of castin far out. Well, next time
Thank you Jakub, i don't catch fish every time i go out and i've got the videos to prove it lol. But casting close into the wall is good but when the tide gets down to a certain point beware the waves will take you into the wall and then you start loosing gear.
Enjoy your videos and fished Tayport a few times was wondering what Tayport is like for Mackerel as wife wants a wee shot
Glad you like them Kenny. Tayport it is possible to get mackies from there but as it is just now not heard of any being caught yet.

Sea Scorpions are called Maggiepots in Methil
That's right, don't hear called that to often nowadays.
Whats methil docks like in the spring and what bait are you using , i went a couple times in winter but no luck
Yeah i took the tip and casted a few metres out , caught a few small fish but nothing big
