First
JAY!!! You were legit first!! You win a free fishing trip with Clayton this winter!!
was so close
Clay, you can show him how to catch big fish! His fishing cabin is way more legit though, not gonna lie....
Jay probably had baby poo on his hand when he typed that out though.
Enjoy Jay!
Nice😂
A recommendation on the cheek meat. When your cutting the skin, leave a little bit of the skin intact near the eye. You can use your thumb to pry the meat up towards the eye, and it peels right off the skin.
Good tip, I was thinking the same thing. I actually just cut a half circle, jam my thumb in right to the cheek bone and pull it out and right off the skin. Zero meat wasted every time.
I just commented the same thing, LOL. Same with the wings. The skin will pull right off around the fins.
Yay! Save me from my boring Monday Clay!!! No ice no life 😭
I was about to say the same thing then I saw this. 😆
My buddy showed me the walleye wing a couple years ago and had never heard of it from anyone else until this, nice work!
IMO, peanut oil is the superior fish fry oil.
First off you have a dream garage! And second, thank you I do clean a lot of walleye but never knew about the "wings" or the zipper method, THANK YOU Clayton!!
That garage setup is a 10/10, awesome video as always!
Clayton you are my favorite RUclipsr keep on trying to keep up the good work I took a picture with you at your ice fishing show
I keep watching these videos while thinking…. Maybe I’ll get an auger this year, or maybe a new shelter. Then I remind myself That I’d have to drive 18-20 hours north to use them. 😂 this looks so fun!
Hi Clayton,
You forgot to say “Of course, I’m Clayton Schick”😊
Love your channel.
I have been cleaning walleyes for many years and this is the first time I’ve seen the zippering trick, I will have to try that next time…thanks for tip Clayton! Keep the vids coming, I love the content!
Getting the lateral line out of any larger fish drastically improves the flavor. Also removing the darker meat that is just under the skin. Especially with salmon. Even if I’m smoking it I refuse to have that left on the meat. Try it sometime and you won’t go back.
I'm never successful trying to salvage the rib meat. I need to practice I guess. Tha KS for the tutorial Clayton, much appreciated brother
The best and most comprehensive description of how not to waste fish. Great thanks.
Jay tapping in first is some funny s***, lol
Been binging your ice videos from all the way back to 5 years ago. No walkable ice in northern Michigan yet so I'm living vicariously through your videos racking up knowledge for when it freezes. Best walleye cleaning video I ever seen
Some in montmermency county
Really, no ice in Northen MI. Man, I live in SE North Dakota and the lake we fish already has 10 inches. We havent gotten to actually fish yet but guys are already on side by sides. a midwestern cold snap is coming next week Mon and Tues so hopefully you guys will get some ice.
I feel you Brother!! I live on a small lake in Manistee County... I'm so ready!!!
Awesome video and also thanks for all of the amazing advice.
Great video. Gonna have to try and zipper method. Haven’t filleted a ton of walleye. Mostly due to not catching enough😂
Great video as always, Clayton! I clean my walleye the same way as you, like to prolong the life of that blade. Still taught me a thing or two with the wings and zippering. When I do cheeks, the knife goes in, slides under the cheek, and when it flips out, I skin it as the knife slides out. Skin stays on the fish, cheek goes in the pan. Thanks for the great vid, keep'em coming!
We love Clayton Schick Cooking
Another quick easy video for those that don’t have a full day to get out. Also I guess after how good that gosh looked I know what I am making for supper.
Yes. Totally agree with getting most of your cuts done on one side of the fish and leaving it on while going to the other side. Thought I was the only person that did that
Great informative video Clayton. 👍👍 You took your time and made it easy for everyone. Keep up the great info
A little trick with the cheeks is cut it out but leave a bit of skin attached to the walleyes face grab the cheek meat and pull it right off leaving the cheek skin on the fish. Love the vids Clayton!!! Tight lines
I started grabbing the wings last season.
They taste fantastic! Most leave them on the carcass. Try them, you won’t be disappointed!
Great vid on cleaning walleye!
This may be the best explanation I've seen yet on how to filet with the least loss. Thank you
It’s awesome to see how other people do it! Wings and cheeks are the best part in my opinion!
So happy to see someone else that does wings and cheeks. Leave it to the “old guide”. Oh - and the zipper! You da man Clayton.
The season approaches here sooner than expected, already 2 inches of ice in some spots..!! And a Catch n' Cook video from CSO to top it off?? Unreal!! 🤘🎣
That is an awesome tutorial on cleaning em! The zipper part will save alot of hastle. 👌
Walleye wings are the best part of the fish! SO GOOD ;)
So glad you posted this video, I saved this so i can try filleting now. I always just cut steaks out of it. My grandma will appreciate me getting better at filleting.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing the info
MN Matt, something to watch over lunch time, to bad my lunch isn't fish... Keep up the great videos...
ThATS A REALLY GOOD WAY TO COOK WALLEYE AND FILET THANKS CLAYTON.
I love watching your videos. I enjoy learning new things to improve my fishing!
we had a some great Walleye Wing feed, great video, i have always done the pants, never the zipper, learned something new, you still can teach a old dog new tricks lol
i got to meat clayton at the fargo ice fishing show and it was so cool to meet him
I don't even like fish nor do I fish but watching you sure is entertaining.. now want to go ice fishing as I live in Minnesota.
I got real hungry watching this one
Absolutely love your videos. I live in Alexandria MN and if you ever fish in the area I’d love to tag along!
Going to give the wings a try next time out. Thanks for sharing Clayton.
Watching this while ice fishing is a must
Great vid! I've also cooked the wings from bass and northern. there's not much for a cheek on bass, but nothern pike have good cheeks on them too!
A great tip for checking oil temperature is to use a heat gun. And yes 375 degrees is the temperature you are shooting for.
A hint or two to Santa and perhaps you will get one in your stocking.
We are already watching you on TV when this came up how crazy is that
That is awesome!!
Finally starting to look like winter here in south Ontario. Few more weeks and we can GET Outside!!
At least I can watch someone catch walleyes, I was on first ice on Saturday and I lost a 27+ at the hole, I couldn’t believe it
Thanks for the content! Learned some new tricks from your vid today!
Love the wings one of the best parts
Excellent vid !! Nice to see somebody finally leave ribs on body of fish 👍👍 Just got the Merch . Super nice quality 👍👍👍. Thanks for everything!!
Great tips!! Appreciate every video you create!!! You deserve a million subs!!!
Wow that knife looks so sharp. Cuts through that walleye like butter. Wish I could find a good knife like that.
Another filet technique I will for sure try!
We do not quite have enough ice to go fishing yet but we have been checking here
My dad taught me to filet the same way only difference is we don't cut it all the way off at the tail. We leave it attached right at the fin and then skin it. I like that zipper trick though. I wanna try that as usually I just pant leg it
Whoo Hoo its the bearded walleye slayer!
Great video. Great tutorial on filleting the Walter
I didn't know about the wings, way cool!
Great fish cleaning demo!
Keep ‘em coming tight lines
No Ice in Manistee MI, yet?! I really liked the tip of leaving the first fillet on for easier removal of the second, and keeping them together is awesome!!! Thanks
Hopefully soon!
Saw ya on target walleye clayton awesome stuff your going national man one of the best anglers around i think !
Excellent cleaning tutorial!
Love the filet knife😍 another awesome video❤ thank you Clayton🎣🤘
Gonna try that way to fillet the fish. I’m excited that are coop has catch n cook
Great content......greetings from Stratford Ontario!
Just made Monday a little less shitty lol! Finally camped on ice for first time loved it! I have a pretty big shack but do you find one big buddy heater enough or do you need two?
CSO rocks!
How do you like that striker suit? I have a climate and love it. I am curious how much "better" their new one is.
I think a remote button for a retractable transducer should be invented. Happy holidays clayton .
Nice trick on that last fillet!!!!
Your supper looked just like mine. Except I added beans and stove stuffing. I think the walleye May came from the same lake.
Was having a rough day, you turned that around. Thank you. 👍
Right under the Fins/wings the heart is in that pocket and on bigger fish its big enough to eat. It kinda has the texture of cheeks it not bad.
Keep up the great vids can't wait to get on the ice !
Fishing then snacking hehe
Really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
You were speaking directly to Josh McShore lunch when talking about your rod tip right😂
Awesome video!!! Can’t wait to try out catch and cook coatings
Ya buddy!
Hey Clayton,
Thanks for the catch and cook video...very helpful! My question is, can you cook (can't believe I'm going to say this!), "frozen store bought" filets in the same manner once they're thawed?
Wow looks great. I do a bater set up like you would for fish n chips. need to try that
Still slamming smallies in 38*F water. Probably this week is the end of Bass season. (12/15/22) Enjoyed your video and hopefully I will improve on my cleaning of walleyes. Great work and thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for your efforts.
Perfect!
Trying your style of fish frying tonight. Found catch and cook for sale here in Nipawin sk.
Love it! I'm new to ice fishing and have NO gear, but live in good ice fishing country (northeast Ontario) Any chance you have (or can do) a beginners guide to essential ice fishing gear that wont break the bank? :)
Makes me hungry for walleye..not gonna lie!
i fillet my perch and crappie the same way. Bit slower of a method but you get the most meat possible.
I'd like to see you do a laker too!
First time I have seen this method, can't wait to try it! Thanks for the fishing trip!
Pectoral chips....hmmm interesting salt n vin, all dressed...you could be on to something here....lol ..in all seriousness never knew that . Thanks.
Deadly! Looked delicious!
Awesome video ! I know how to get the bone out now
Love your vids Clayton! Question for you: is there a reason why you don’t drill a second hole for the transducer? It seems like it sometimes gets in the way for folks (not just you) as they try to pull the ducer out of the way while fighting fish. Curious if there is a reason? Love your stuff. And thanks for that zipper trick.
Wish you would make your video's longer!! I enjoy them i definitely learn alot from it! Keep them coming been watching you for years now!!!
Fish Tacos!!!
Haha!! Yes!!!
I love every single your videos!!!
Gotta say, never tried the wings. And I always used a smaller knife to get the scallops
Great video Clay. Thanks man. I know there are a tonne out there already but I’d love to to see this again pike style. Cheers bud
Awesome video as always Clayton. Always enjoy the raw type of videos. Great tips for cleaning fish!
Another great video !
Great video
Yeah man...love it!!
