Something I often wonder, is it easier to understand the radio traffic if you hear it in person? because watching videos like this most of the times I couldn't understand other people on the radio even if my life would depend on it.
Even in person it can be hard sometimes - the plane is noisy (even with noise cancelling headsets) and most radio calls are made quickly and shortened. Add in two languages being spoken; it can keep you on your toes.

Glen, i will indeed visit Quebec City. I live in New Hampshire USA so only 180 miles or so from the border and we travel to Province of Quebec for sightseeing fairly often (at least prior to covid) and last spring Toronto on a trip to Niagra Falls. We went to Sherbrooke a month or so ago and on the 2nd day we thought about going north to Quebec City but I, foolishly I now know, opted for "what I know" and we went to Montreal instead. Your glimpse of Q.C. suggests that I chose wrong. I will rectify that next spring or summer. BTW, I don't fly a plane... but, as a fan of your other channel, I checked this one out at your 2nd video. As a guy that has restored everything from motorcycles to pinball machines and jukeboxes to boats and motors I got real interested in your restoration and upgrading of C-FMVU and have been with you all the way. Great job!
What a great video! Thank you for taking the time to create this and share it. In the next couple of years I'm hoping to get my license in Oshawa and start flying! Did you know that Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols was formerly the drummer for Kathrina and the waves? Some fifteen years ago I worked at the same company as and old friend of mine (our whole family, actually). So I used to join him for the breakfast and lunch breaks. One monday, I told him that I had been to a flea market on sunday. And told him: "I've bought a CD with classic music." He turned to me in shock: "Are you sick?" My answer was: "Never mind the bolloks from the Sex Pistols." He turned back to the news on his computer, murmuring: "O.K. You're good." :-) Greetings from the far north of Germany!
I enjoyed traveling along with you. Loved the scenes, map reference and conversations. Like I was in the back seat enjoying the flight with you. Well done. I am originally from Montreal (dad was a test pilot for Canadiar/Bombardier) so I am quite familiar with the area. I live in Georgia now and own a Cessna 150, which I hope to fly up there one day. Funny but I own a boat and take it to the Rideau Canal from Montreal each year. You fly in an hour what takes me two days to travel! If you ever want to enjoy the water way let me know! I'm envious of how green it is... The lawns and everything are green here in Denver, but outside of the burbs every thing turns brown with just spots of green trees.
You're living the dream, Glen. If you faithfully follow the trajectory of what I had in *my* mind when I got my PPL we'll be seeing you mounting floats on MVU soon. Your background is showing itself though the excellent storytelling here.
I've always been challenged by geography BUT today might have been a new record for not even being close. I was guessing that Quebec City would be close to the border and Niagara Falls. lol THEN I looked at a map. Good Lord. It looks like 800 to 900 miles off. I'll be following your efforts putting the plane together so it is what you want. I love the concept of staying within your means. My son and I both did that while going to college. I don't mind saying my meals were a bit sparse at times and, by today's standards, very unhealthy. Ahh ... to be young again. lol
hey! just discovered this channel.. did not know you were also a pilot, I just watch your cooking videos.. very nice! and it was fun simply watching you fly and listening to the tower. I've had that overheating problem with gopros as well, I have a couple and a couple of cases as well that I drilled a hole and then covered it with silly putty and it helped.. If you have a case that you won't ever use to be submerged, maybe try that. I used silly putty just so humidity or rain doesn't penetrate too much.. Guess I'll have to binge watch all the other videos, Keep flying!
Can you share your camera settings without using GoPro labs? And what about the SD card, is it a certain volume or brand that does better with the heat? I struggle with my GoPros as well.
Most of my settings are based on using 24p and not the stock Gopro 23.976 - but I have GPS, Bluetooth, wifi all shut off as well as reducing the stabilisation in order to reduce the amount of processing needed. The SD cards that I've found to work best so far are the Samsung EVO Plus ( the newer white ones), they seem to allow sustained writes with higher temps. I'm testing right now the Hero11 and the new Osmo Action3 should be here for testing next week; I'll have a video out on those cameras soon. The Hero11 seems to have fixed most of the heat and non-heat induced glitches and shutdowns.
Ah yes, the French ATC... :D Don't worry though, it is the exact same in France, even in Paris and even if you're a jet that is clearly foreign and most certainly does not have a French speaking crew on board... they even tried to call us in French once, we didn't answer though
I'm from Ottawa and spent a lot of time in the Gatineau Hills, but never in the air. Such a beautiful view on the Quebec side with the hills and lakes. I see at 16:12 that you passed right by Lac Poisson-Blanc. Beautiful area!
I’ve never landed that runway at Arnprior. Always used the long one. Also don’t know the date but might’ve been me taxiing that float plane. And you now know it’s easy to fly into a big airport.
That perverse view from the wing on takeoff will always bring me joy. What a beautiful plane. Your love is such a great flying buddy! She brings the tea! Audio sounded awesome! Would it destroy your gopro to place it on the top of your tail facing forward for one flight? I think it would be an awesome view.
It's amazing and awe inspiring to look at how the last ice age formed the land. Not so amazing is how the last man age formed it. Such as it is. Take solace in nature and time.
High Tension Electricity Power Transmission lines - Called 'Hydro' in many parts of Eastern Canada because at the start of electricity all of the power was derived from water dams.
Another great flight, thanks for sharing. places seem so much more beautiful higher up . Its always good to have a second set of eyes looking out, pointing out the Float-plane was a good catch. Would you not consider a sterile cockpit below or above 500 AGL during critical phases a good habit to get into ? A good example is the conversation after she pointed out the plane, I would think in some cases that would be a distraction? I am not in anyway qualified to fly or judge anyone but I would think it may be something to try as these videos are a great learning tool and a way to improve the safety that you already hold very high.

Even the French in France make fun of their accent!
I'm envious of how green it is... The lawns and everything are green here in Denver, but outside of the burbs every thing turns brown with just spots of green trees.
Comes from living in what we in L.A. called “the high desert”.
Ahh ... to be young again. lol
Awesome, exactly this
hey! just discovered this channel.. did not know you were also a pilot, I just watch your cooking videos..
very nice! and it was fun simply watching you fly and listening to the tower.
@@GlensHangar great, look forward to them. Always enjoy your videos
I dated a private pilot (Cessna 172 owner) and CFI for 13 years. I love hearing the radio calls! Where is the Go-Pro mounted? Underside of the wing?
Thanks for sharing this!! it's great watching you fly you're country. I would love to visit Quebec.
Ah yes, the French ATC... :D Don't worry though, it is the exact same in France, even in Paris and even if you're a jet that is clearly foreign and most certainly does not have a French speaking crew on board... they even tried to call us in French once, we didn't answer though
I'm almost OK in French - but certainly not good enough for ATC!
@@GlensHangar then you’re one step ahead of me! I just blindly trust my TCAS whenever I’m in France 😬
What an awesome adventure! Imagine flying into a city, having fun, then flying back in a day. Brilliant :D How wasted ya'll fly back? lol
This was chiefly cool. Jules didn’t seem entirely comfortable on that take off.
Do small airports charge a landing fee?
Some do - most don't. I'll get a $20 charge from CYQB Quebec City at the end of the year, but no charge from CYOO.
It's amazing and awe inspiring to look at how the last ice age formed the land. Not so amazing is how the last man age formed it. Such as it is. Take solace in nature and time.
That is a beautiful landscape. So varied and wooded, especially compared to my home turf in central Kansas.
Loved it. The best of all flying videos so far. Looking forward to the next. ❤
Very nice. I've been to Quebec several times and loved it each time. I am looking forward to the video of the trip home.
Julie is reading an actual printed newspaper! Do they still do that in Canada?
Ok, I am living for the Martha & the Muffins reference. 🎶
I love watching these trips. So cool. Congrats to you and Jules.
What is a hydro coradore
High Tension Electricity Power Transmission lines - Called 'Hydro' in many parts of Eastern Canada because at the start of electricity all of the power was derived from water dams.
So what is the “Hydro Corridor”? Some kind of pipeline?
'Hydro' = Electricity in Eastern Canadian
@@GlensHangar Thanks for being quick. So it’s a power line from a dam.
Great video Glen! I might have to fly out that way next!
So many places to fly and see - we'll be flying back that way this winter to Mount Tremblant.
@@GlensHangar Amazing. Maybe I will join you!
Get some air in that nose tire!
Ha - yeah it got a little low there.
👍👍👍🛩🛩🛩
It’s so strange to see you outside the kitchen lol
Thanks so much Glen!
If you go camping I'd love to see cooking in the camp kitchen.
Quebec City is beautiful, thanks for sharing!
😎👍👌✌🖖🤓
Another great flight, thanks for sharing. places seem so much more beautiful higher up .
Its always good to have a second set of eyes looking out, pointing out the Float-plane was a good catch.
Would you not consider a sterile cockpit below or above 500 AGL during critical phases a good habit to get into ?
A good example is the conversation after she pointed out the plane, I would think in some cases that would be a distraction?
I am not in anyway qualified to fly or judge anyone but I would think it may be something to try as these videos are a great learning tool and a way to improve the safety that you already hold very high.
