- What happens to old D1GP cars in Japan? We find some and poke around them! This is a normal thing being around Power Vehicles, they have soooo many cool old D1GP cars hanging around their shop space all the time, and I am super lucky they let me poke around them. In this video, we poke around the Team Orange D1GP Evo 9 and Evo 10 which have been converted to RWD and had their motor layouts changed from FWD to RWD setups. Both cars have really trick engine bays, turbo setups, v mount radiators and intercoolers, and on and on. We even see them pushing a Team Orange S15 around on casters which was hilarious!
I love love love finding stuff like this, even though I don't know much about these specific cars. Авто/Мото
2010 is now considered classic, boy that hurts...
Classic? Sounds like this thing has been sitting in the foothills of ancient Japan for centuries, one slight wrong pull on those bonnet pins...... and they crumble into dust particles
25 years and its considered antique
20 - 25 years is a classic
it's just because theres not many of them left, loads have been written off
25 years or older is classic but minimum 25 years like a 1996 eclipse gsx is considered classic or 1996 mk4 Supra or even r33 GTR now r34 has few more years to be a classic
I miss these old builds, from the JDM Option days. I still have a handfull of those dvd's
same i feel like theres a huge hole in the YT car market for someone to start this up again. Be it hoonigan or anyone else.
Same here come too think of it xD
You had dvds? I had stacks of bootleg VHS tapes that I picked up from this import store close to my high school
@@djwonderbrad you had VHS? i had ancient litographs from japanase caveman drifting bisons ;)
If only they make a Museum For Old Era Of D1GP that would be a tourist attraction especially car lover
Or maybe someone has already started one

I was a fan of Team Orange the moment they brought out those WRX's back in the day.
Driftworks made one to.
@@josteincarlsen2905 I vaguely remember that one, but I have to admit I was such a simp for Team Orange back in the day another team coulda ran a Caterham 7 & I would not have noticed.
Team orangewas badass!
What a throwback seeing the team orange evos.
I remember the game Race driver Grid had the S15 & WRX as playable cars.
Man I went hard as fuck on the downhill run 🤣🤣
True
I bought my first Evo back in 2011 when i lived in japan. An Evo IV. Was new to the japanese car scene and loved hitting the rings in okinawa watching cars drift. I had these two exact cars on a cheap printer wallpaper for my garage. I own an Evo X now. Pretty cool seeing these again.
I bet some enthusiasts would pay top money to buy one of these Evo's even if they're not competitive anymore. Such legendary machines.
1:24 i never thought that beast still firin some of his glory.
I remember seeing these two cars back in their heyday. Sad to see them just sitting there gathering dust.
Yeah, and yet the shitty japan owner of them is so scared of people seeing them. Like its just there gathering dust, sell it to a car guy ffs

Such a bittersweet video. I love seeing these cars again. Having watched Team Orange drive them, going "One More Time!" for an hour because going up against each other, it looked like a coordinated ballet. However... Seeing them caked with dust and ot polished up in a museum somewhere is heartbreaking. At least the Signal R34 is in a collector's showroom... Sad story how it got there, but nevertheless.
I LOVE these D1 content! Thanks for the video. It's good to see these old legend cars.
Ohh the glory days. Team orange was one of the leading companies and teams back in the day. They also ran an sti with radiator in back and duct in rear door so it stayed cool going sideways. I still love drifting but back then there was more variety in d1gp and formula d. So stoked to see these cars again. Great find guys.
That was so cool looking back in the day!
There should be museums for D1GP cars 🤷🏿♂️
@L W Both these D1 Evo's are going to his collection soon...
And FD cars
man, miss these OG D1 cars!
At the professional level, the whole “what’s a good drift car” debate is pretty antiquated. With enough money, the right driver and the right team, any car can be competitive. Aasbo, who’s in the video, won a championship in a Scion TC and was a top 5 driver in a hatchback, both originally FWD platforms.
Are Evos a sensible platform to build drift cars on? Maybe not, but there’s no reason they can’t be competitive at the top level.
he never said that, he said they had to be extensively modified to become competitive so weren't the best option
@@charlieward7606 And that they were the only ones doing it, which meant scratch built.
@@charlieward7606 I’m specifically addressing his comment at 3:52. Yes this chassis “requires so much work” to make it competitive, but how is that different to any other car at this level? All cars have to be extensively modified.
Sure, converting to RWD is tough but no single car driving within top 8 at the FD level requires that much more work than the other. They all require an equally insane amount of work and money - they are torn down to the frame and then built back up for a specific purpose. We don’t have to nitpick on whether they spent more money here or hours there, they’re all wildly built beasts in their own right doesn’t matter if it’s a 240, a Hatchback Corolla or a Civic .
@@diamaangueye7939 thats not true, when you have a one off or rare car its much more money and work than something common, yes all teams have certain things that are custom but reducing the difficulty in repair and maintance is massive in racing. if you are talking about the commo build like LS s13 or something almost all parts for that are available easily. not only the individual parts but also the conversion parts. angle kits are made to bolt on, new engine or engine parts can be had at most junkyards or are in stock in parts shops, even stuff down to conversion engine mounts are readily available. when you have a car that isnt even originally RWD, most of the suspension is miss matched or custom, stuff like mounts, manifolds, driveshafts.... all really hard to deal with.or something like a custom rotarty where most people dont even know how to work on them, most parts on the engine are custom let alone all the stuff around the engine. those sort of teams have to fabricate multiple of each parts and keep their own stock of parts, while teams with common cars can just go grab a new part from as shop. like i love e30´s more than e36 yet im not going to use my e30 to drift, it costs a fortune to get good parts, they are a pain to track down and there isnt just new shells everywhere. e36´s are cheap, parts are cheap, parts are available, chassis are available... they are so much cheaper to run while being not far off the same car
@@diamaangueye7939 I know it's kinda old but still hop on it. The difference here is that any RWD JDM platform has a lot of experience put into it by lots of companies and enthusiasts who fleshed out all the mistakes, errors and weaknesses of those. Going with any new generation car or an entirely new platform is different since you have to bash your head in some cases "alone", trying to custom build or fit parts for these cars, and everything included is not easy to replace. A lot of additional calculations add up time and money required to prep these cars which in return result in many try and error testing. Imitating something is always easier.
I remember watching them compete, even read articles about them in magazines like Sport Compact Car
Some drifters do intentionally want a front weight bias for drifting because they want less traction to spin the rear tires easy, and since the rear tires are so far from the cg they can straighten the car out easy
they still look amazing i remember seeing these in magazines as a teenager
when i was a kid v opt dvds and team orange is what got me to love drifting..it'd be a dream to own that evo 9 here in the states
Its been a while since i saw those machines. Team orange introduced me to drifting all because i loved Subaru nd Evo back then. Thanks for showing me they still alive
We visited Kumakubo back in 06' and he brought us around k style to see all these cars and showed us around Ebisu and gave us a car for the day to drive with Naoto Suanaga , great times
Good to see these cars still around and the evo still running. That car to me is priceless lol
Great video - many thanxs for the upload. I used to compete here in Sweden with a RWD EVO2
So sick! Takes me back to when I was 18 in New Zealand, drifting around on the roads in our Silvia's. This era of cars makes me super nostalgic!
I myself have a evo x (black edition 2010 full stock) & I really love the way it drive's
who wants to petition for FD to have a 500hp cap so the battles can be cool like D1?
I think that would be great and really show who the real drivers are, theyre so used to having 1000+hp it would make it very difficult for some. I think it would make for more interesting contest for sure though
235 to 265 street tyre class keeps it fair and simple
I mean would it be terrible if every 4 wheel motorsport went to either a 650 or 800hp limit minus drag racing.
@@thizzobishi I want to continue seeing 900hp cars in hillclimb.
Well D1 now got 1000hp builds as well. As much as this were the golden days. Technology always advancing as the year goes on. Inevitable
These cars are what got me into liking drifts. They looked so cool
such a phenomenal amount of work on both those evos
I'm definitely painting or wrapping my Evo 4 that Orange color. I fell in love with that color on the Evo when I seen Kuma driving that Evo 10.
I dropped by Kid's Heart in Nagoya when I used to live there. Tezuka's 32 with the 34 front was pretty sweet.
Damn the levels of nostalgia are off the damn charts 🤣
Cant wait to be back in Japan! Love the video!
I always had the thought that an evo could have the engine placed longitudinally but I’ve never seen anyone have one let along two until now
Great video. 2PS game was awsome, great to see somthing whats happenig with cars. Great job.
their concept is : it is only a car, and technology is constantly evolving, tomorrow we produced new one
Ahh the good old days of d1gp and superstreet magazine throw in initial d and some option videos and im ready to go back
I love seeing these kinds of videos
I once saw the benihana viper in some hole in the wall mechanic shop in Hawthorne, CA. Dirty and stripped. Broke my heart.
I remember being 10years old watching these comps...good ole days
I feel like you didn't give these cars or Team Orange enough credit. They must've done something right, Kuma and Suenaga were both really successful in D1GP with these cars. For their time they were super competitive against the S chassis and the rest. Kumakubo was the series champion in 2006 with his GDB Impreza.
team orange got me into drifting, remember watching their speedhunters videos during class in highschool
It’s weird, I only recently heard of Team Orange and now this video pops up 🤩✨
Cool to see what got me started watching and doing drifting. I was wondering what happened to the cars. Thanks for sharing
Its cool to see the team orange ct9a didn't just get disassembled and scattered around. I thought the debut livery was the coolest thing with the hidden white tiger graphic on the back. Definitely one of my favorites from D1.
I remember team orange! When I was in year 4 (3rd grade is the equivalent I think) my teachers asked us to make powerpoint presentations on anything we liked, so I chose drifting, more specifically team orange mostly so i could watch drift videos in class lol, they had like 4-5 active members/cars at the time too
The Team Orange EVO came out to Australia for WTAC. Great video guys, just found the channel, instant subscribe.
Loving the daily uploads
Oh my God that Team Orange Evo X was my dream car back when I was 14.
I definitely played the D1 Grand Prix game 10 years ago on PS2! Love digging into the history of the cars.
Race driver grid?
I clicked because I thought I seen Team Orange Cars & I was not disappointed 👀😁 Awesome to see these! would have loved to see a close up on the s15 shell.
Starts talking about going back to Japan soon while out at drift week.
Literally after formula D were in Japan again lmao. I'm so stoked to go back, I miss it
Lone star is always a treat after a long day at work
I love this, thanks for sharing
I remember these D1 legends, for many oldest days.
Apart from everything being "probably " in this video it is really nice to see those old beasts alive and well . Just one wash away from old glory .
I’m rocking with takahiro’s old soarer jzz30. Great car, endless fun. Previous owner import it to shanghai china, and did a very good job maintaining it.
So rad that you get to experience this!
To tell you the truth, I see these cars all the time but finally made a stand alone video on them lol. My Japan content has them buried in background shots all the time lol!
@@LoneStarDrift You are a lucky man!
I love the earlier years of drifting. Miss those legendary machines
I really love the Team orage Rwd evo9 back in the day, they mount the engine in longitudinal position 👌🏼
Keep up the good content your good at it👊
I never knew about Team Orange until playing the first GRiD title and driving/drifting the Team Orange Subaru Impreza :P
Man those orange evo's was what got me into drifitng too
i remember that D1 game, wish i still had it lol
Man I would love to get that evo x as a comp car. I got into them because they used the evo and subaru.
Man, seen that Team Orange S15 been half way stripped is so sad. I loved this car. Basically made me fall in love with the S15 chassis.
As for classic would be something like 350hp cars of 90's era, 2010 is very modern, I was building my own cars at that period..
That white 2GS/aristo by the IX is so clean.
They're a cheap, universal platform in Japan. Kinda sad to see some of them demo'd in drifting but really that's what cars are for.
This is making me wanna play my D1GP game on my PS2 now
Edit: you mentioned the D1GP game as I typed this
This is amazing, our sport is reaching the age where we are starting to inherit & identify "classics"
DOPE! I love seeing these old machines. Although, I don't consider these classic. "Classic" to me would about 2004 when Signal was popping over here in the US, NOB Taniguchi was still in his red S15 in Japan.
I felt sad and happy at the same time since they still start up.. I grew up knowing drifting with these "superstar" cars.
The 4G63 changed orientation in the Evo 4 when they went from the six bolt to seven bolt crank. Exhaust / turbo was always on the front of the engine, with intake at the rear.
The 4B11 went to a rear exhaust / turbo set up.
And also the location of the timing belt. 1-3 is on the passenger side, 4-9 is on the driver side
Damnnn that Evo started?! No way..
BTW Sick Channel
Thats pretty cool, I'll have to check out Ebisu some day. Its crazy as long as I've lived here I've never been to that track.
I remember the team orange blob eye subaru.
That kumakubo drove himself
I had the YUKES D1GP game & it was SICK wish I could find it today
was it a video game type of game, or more like a simulator?
Video game physics
Lol it was a fun game, i got good at it and could beat the game with almost every car
I got the iso for pcsx2 if u want to play it
saw a team orange car in a thumbnail. YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION
I'm not a huge fan of drifting, but I gotta say these cars are so cool. Its nice to see that they used something other than a s chassis.
so want those wheels and bumpers. feel sorry for it being sat there i feel bad when i dont drive mine over the weekend lmao
From driftweek rite to matsuri In Japan!!! Just awesome Aaron..... I especially love the Japan content and world love to see you back in Canada at some point. I know Adam said it would be to hard but I think you should strongly reconsider. Drift week 4 Canada mabey. PLEASE lol...
idk why but it hurts, the car with the neatest engine i have ever seen is left like this :)
Yooooo that drifting was AWESOME! I've seen these 2 orange Evos on Google images but never knew about them. Man this is so cool! I'm making a drift Evo...one day ✊
team orange will always be my favorite drift team. drift team of my childhood. plus keichii for the win
that d1 video game was one of my favorite games all time.. to bad i no longer have it
Sheesh that 4x OMT battle at the end
Maybe this cars can return on small events in countrys that drift are not so big like Japan or usa. Like in Brazil a 4 cilinder car still competitive
such beautiful evos
Extra lovely content @lonestardrift. would like to see more.
By the way, seen the yellow R32.4 at Gatebil Norway.. bout 5 years ago.
The Tezuka R32 with the R34 tail lights? Such a rad car!
Yess Tezuka's Bee*Racing Skyline..
Na i thought it only got R34 front, but still R32 tailight.. this was in 2016.
Well, this put me into a slight tears, damn i remember in the day they compete each other
It's good to see one of them is still running
a shame though there is no museum for this cars but at least we can recreate them the best we can in racing games.
Come to Norway and check out the old Jasper performance Supra! It’s sad 😢
They inspire that’s why they are legends
Oh lord this is so cool
i wish i see one of them in front of me
Aaron I don't know if you follow @coltredline on instagram, but he's on the East Coast and owns a bunch of old D1 cars. I believe he also bought the Team Orange Evo X in this video a couple months ago.
Is this the same car ?
Colton Amster from Redline Restoration and JDM Supreme, bought these 2 EVO's and the Subaru GC8. they are in port expected to be 25 years old, to be sent to usa
This is such a cool video
Thanks for sharing this
The Evo 10 4B engine had the exhaust and intake swapped around so the intake manifold would be at the front of the engine bay and the exhaust at the rear closest to the firewall. I believe they did this for weight distribution and efficiency reasons. It makes putting a bigger turbo on them very hard though and they require a lot of heat shrouding at the rear of the engine.
The 8s and 9s 4G63 both had the turbo facing towards the radiator. The 4b11 in the 10 was when they swapped the exhaust towards the firewall. The major difference on the 8 and 9 is the MIVEC in the 9
Oh the memories ♥️
