We had a few chickens that we got from a private seller that would get wry neck off and on and came to find out it was a vitamin deficiency...so as long as we treated them with vitamins or foods to help they didnt have a problem and I heard stress can bring it on if they have a deficiency....glad to see Rod doing well ! We have had linoleum in our chicken and duck coops for about 12 years and love it ! Our first linoleum floor lasted 9 years so it is so worth the money and the wood underneath stayed beautiful.

I was just thinking while watching you clean out the birds, what about getting a large shop vac kind of machine mounted on a wagon or some kind of wheels with a long hose attachment to make your job easier. You have electric in the coops or near them. I'm sure you can find some kind of DIY project on You Tube somewhere! MaryCarl sure does know her chickens. How did she ever get interested in chickens(or birds) at such a young age?? I love the down home atmosphere of your farm and family. Stay well, say Hi to Peaches, and God Bless!
The red veggie trick, you can also use red spices, chili powder, paprika, turmeric etc.. You can mix it in their feed or use a mineral feeder with just the spices. The birds will love it and many have beneficial nutritional values. AND, not only will it color up their yolks, it will make the colors in their plumage pop if fed during the molt. MC is an amazing young woman, she has a bright future ahead. Not only knows the breeds of all her birds but she knows each individual bird she has and they all are so tame due to her attentions and care of them. I was born in Georgia and used to love boiled peanuts. After moving to Texas at 15, I never really got back into them. My parents always went to the farmers market for boiled peanuts and vidalia onions on the way back to Texas after a family visit,
Oh they are sooooooooo good!!!! I rem as a kid when we would go to beaches in Florida every summer, there was a truck setup at this certain gas station that sold them & they were the best ever!!

Now we have Barbados Blackbelly sheep and dove. We garden too. Good family work ethics you got going on there! Looks like y'all love what you do.❤
I think you need more peahens and a huge flock of different colored guineas!!!!!!!!! Possibly you could build an aviary with finches and quail grass parakeets or cockatiels canaries for the button quail of course!! Oh y'all need those pigeons that walk like chickens!!!!! When ya gonna get mandarin ducks from white house on the hill?? Or wood ducks for release would be cool as a conservation project... does Mary have bird houses for native birds or feeders for wild birds or hummingbirds?? Do y'all have a butterfly garden??

Rye neck is a Selenium deficiency. If you have Selenium paste for your goats (BOSE), you can just stick the sick chicken's beak into the paste a couple of times a day for a few days. Saved a chick that way once, but the mineral supplement you gave Rod was just what the Dr. ordered :)
