The spartan kit will be serving the proteus land raiders. Its a kit designed to be used to bring other forgeworld land raiders to plastic. Its actually a really clever bit of kit design.

I'm thinking that part of the over engineering on the Spartan is for alternate builds they'll be releasing in the future. The new Deimos pattern rhino seems to be like that too. As for the shoulder pads, it was apparently done to eliminate the mold line running down the middle; but personally I think the gain is not worth the cost on this.
