The Dark Knight Fight Scene | Keysi Fighting Method Breakdown

- Hey FIT-GAMERS,
In this Fight Scene Breakdown, we take a look at one of my favorite films of all time, The Dark Knight. Batman fights multiple opponents in this fight scene and quickly dispatches them using Keysi. We break it down step by step in slow motion for you all to understand the choreography...
I never noticed how precise batman fights
I trained in Keysi for over two years .. nice breakdown. Hopefully more people appreciate the Dark Knight fight scenes after watching these videos.
+Christian Mullican Thanks! Do you still train?
I moved to Los Angeles and there's no schools here sadly :(
+Christian Mullican Ah I see...well start one up! Lol jk, but maybe there will be one soon. Justo is really building the USA groups for Keysi right now. We just started one here in Chicago. I'm surprised there isn't one in L.A., being that it is close to Hollywood and Keysi has ties with Hollywood movies
Allot of die hard fans really love the "Batman V Superman" warehouse fight scene. Because he mows through the thugs like a tank & it's brutal but he also seems impossibly strong, near superhuman. I want to say captain America status physical levels. Which people will say "Batman trained himself to caps level" which is great but not realistic. Bales Batman always felt more realistic in his physicality & combat skills.
Indeed. TDK trilogy had a bit more realism to the fights than BvS. Although, I do like what they did in the fights for BvS. Two different choreography styles that did very well for their respective films.
I like how that one clown just stands there while all the crazy stuff happens loudly behind him for thirty seconds.
+Jimmy Hu True. This is a common occurrence in choreography of fight scenes similar to this one. However, would you be so hasty to help them out if Batman was tearing them apart? You're probably not getting paid enough to have your arm/leg broken or to sustain a severe concussion, not to mention no martial arts training to help you out. When you think about it that way, it makes a little more sense lol
@@JoeyBslash3 Good point I'd probably wait a little just to rethink my life choices
“if i just stand here he won’t hurt me”
BRO!!!!
The use of the elbows and feral movements in that fighting style is gorgeous, and Christian Bale trained so hard with this style like a pro during practice fights for Begins and Knight, his tactics and moves against his enemies is absolutely precise. Also, KFM is used to perfection in Jack Reacher.
I’ve always hated the fighting, but this video really makes me appreciate it
Why everybody hates the fight scenes in TDK it's so brutal and realistic
@@CinEverh Most people prefer unrealistic fighting, just the way most people's heads work.
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 this shit is not realistic nolan doesnt kno how to film action scenes
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 it's not that realistic, the guys would all rush Batman at once.
@@jashardwallington He doesn't know how to film them, yes. But this is pretty legit fighting.
Why everybody hates the fight scenes in TDK it's so brutal and realistic
Absolutely u it s not -, truly K laughably shit
Because its filmed to shit, can barely see anything due to quick cuts and there is no impact to the punches.
It is nowhere close to realistic! And I used to train KFM before justo and Andy parted ways.
Some moves are actually impractical making Keysi unrealistic. And it's really slow. People say it's fast to the point where they can't see what's going on but that's due to the filming & sometimes the speed of the film is altered to make things look faster, but sometimes they alter it for other reasons. And it's not as brutal as it looks. That also plays part in it being impractical
@@ghiblinerd6196 Yeah I was going to say. Realistic according to what standard? Wire fu?
I think that if these films worked more on the filming aspect of the fight scenes, and also make it look like it is happening faster, they would be considered maybe the best batman action scenes because here batmans fighting style is awesome its just the choreography needed some work imo
So true
Imagine if it had camera work as solid as The Batman's (2022).
Great breakdown! I’ve seen The Dark Knight trilogy countless times over the years and it always seemed like Batman used a more calculated approach to beating the crap out of the bad guys in those movies than Ben Affleck did in Batman v Superman.
Affleck was calculated too but more strategic and played off the menacing aspects later ego
he's younger here. in Batman v Superman he's older, more confident in what he does
oh man those kfm hammer fists savage!
+California Combatives Club 209 Yea bro, they generate a lot of power
One thing about the posture and technique, it appears to build momentum quickly. Which is pretty effective.
Yea, I really train it quite often with a student of mine and it is quite effective for the most part
007 Quantum Of Solace : knife fight scene in hotel.
+Trong Review For sure! It's on the list ☺
I dig this new intro, bout time for a change. keep up the good content joey
+Average Joe Thanks, appreciate it Joe.
I didn't pay attention to how old your video was but that last move to the opponent lower chin with the forearm is very effective
Indeed, I liked how he set that up
Great breakdown of my favorite
movie, The Dark Knight, fight scene.
Thanks
Bane vs batman
Awsome vidoe dude!! Your new intro is amazing 😳👌🏼 your batman videos are just wow!! Keep up the great work 💪🏼
+Clown Boy Thanks man! I appreciate the support. As long as you guys enjoy them, I will keep making them
It would be just great to see you analyze and perform the warehouse fight scene on BvS. (hand-to-hand combat moves)
+Blue Max way ahead of ya 🤔👍👌
He can't because they are completely unrealistic
@@lefkiosspanos4214 not completely dude. Those are real fighting styles, but the thing is... Batman is strong enough to punch someone out of existence. So this guys would have to take some very, very big, professional-natural body builder to show those moves. Doesn't seem possible.
Yeah, that's a good idea :D.
That being said and while I do appreciate this breakdown, I still have so many issues with Nolan's trilogy when it comes to the fight scenes, especially in TDKR x). Love the video though, as always :D
+Neldolas Haha lol. I remember you having issues with them. No problem
Though I have to say, on a purely technical level, it's much more appealing than the horrendous Jason Bourne films, in how it's filmed. At least you can see what happens here :D
+Neldolas Yea, TDK and TDKR really show you what's going on most of the time. Batman Begins, he wanted to show less of the fight scene, so a lot of the times, the camera is too close or shakey, or the editing is very quick like Bourne.
Neldolas Even though TDK is one of my favorite movies, I have to agree. The fighting in Nolan's trilogy wasn't that good. In this video, one of the enemies had to leave his arm extended for Batman to disarm him. Not to mention the kick that wasn't captured by the camera, really sloppy.
JoeyBslash 3 its the criminals POV
Do you still train in Keysi?
I trained for around 2 1/2 years at a school which incorporated both Keysi and BJJ as my instructor was an ex-KFM guy and a current BJJ instructor. We mostly trained for MMA / combat situations, but I did fall in love with the specifics of Keysi when applied practically, particularly with grapples, hammers, and the focus on multiple opponents. I'll tell you this much, in the street, it has saved me on more than one occassion.
Yeah, I still train it for empty hands tactics. My main background is Filipino Kali, so a lot of the same striking aspects compliment KFM fairly well without having to change much.
@@JoeyBslash3 That's great to hear! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
No problem. Keep on training 👌
2:31..the only thing I didn't like about this technique Batman used was that after he stuck him. The enemies gun is waved all in the air, which could have went off anywhere in the crowd. Then again it's just a movie..lol..lol..your the best thanks Joey🤜🏽🤜🏽🤜🏽⚡⚡⚡⚡!!
Ha, good point. I've noticed this in many movie fight scenes as well. Thanks bro
This looks like a very effective fighting style I believe keysi should be mixed with other martial arts to make it more effective
BATMAN GRABS THE OPPONENT TO MAKE HIM SHIELD....
THE OPPONENT BE LIKE-----""OKAY HERE WE GO AGAIN""😂
A superb breakdown; bravo, gentlemen!
Thanks
I’m a junior black belt in keysi method and it’s fun to watch these kind of stuff
and please make that second channel you talked about. I think that's a great idea
Nice video Joey!! Gotta do The Equalizer fight scene.
+Karasu Muhammad Thanks, and it's on the list 👍
I would love more of this you this very funny When I was in Vegas one time on a trip I got to Take to private lessons for 2 days In defense lab Which is a more evolved type of this But the cool thing is The instructor actually showed me what moves from keysi were used in particular Considering he used to study keysi but yeah I would love to see more of these
Awesome! I will have more fight scene breakdowns that utilize Keysi
Fight scene clean AF💪😎💪
If you watch it in slow-mo the fighting style in the Dark Knight is really badass.
Every time you break fight scenes down, I'm running to the tube.
Brilliant breakdown of the fight
Thanks
Grande arte marcial el keysi xd
batman's opponents: Surround him and get an advantage
Also Batman's opponents: LEt's HIt HiM OnE by OnE
Thanks for your video of the fight breakdown. I can now appreciate Batman's fight tactics more i.e. using an enemy as a shield to take the others down. I feel that the shots/editing of the movie were not not too well-done with some attacks occurring off-screen and some angles are clunky
Yes indeed, the fight scenes were a little hard to follow sometimes, which is why I do these choreography break downs. I feel Batman Begins had the best choreography, but the way the fight scenes were filmed with quick cuts and close ups (similar to the Bourne films), it really took away from the good choreography they developed for introducing his new fighting style.
Show!! Fantástic Job, Brother!! Is a Honnor to learn with you!!
Idk if anyone noticed the little movement Batman did before disarming the first thug, he was getting in his stance if you look at his feet right after he punches joker
This is an awesome video are there any more like this for the Batman trilogy please? 🙏 😊 ❤️
Thanks Joey
4 the break down
+Dave Thundercloud you're welcome bro
Great content
Thanks!
I would like to see how you show final fight scene from ,,Batman Begins'' Batman vs Ra's al Ghul Train Fight
I count on you. :P
good suggestion
That was a really fascinating breakdown because even though I've trained in various arts over the years and watched countless martial arts movies, the choreography of the Batman movies has always confused me. They aren't shot like the usual fight scenes and seem sloppy and random. To what extent did your knowledge of Keysi help you deconstruct this scene?
Not much...I could have deconstructed it without knowing too much, but learning some of the techniques helped a bit with understanding why he did certain movements. I agree, the fight scenes aren't shot very well in parts of Nolan's films. Not sure why he decided to shoot them like that, but either way, they still worked out well in the end.
JoeyBslash 3 Don't get me wrong, I adore the Nolan Batman trilogy and watched a special theatrical screening of all three on the opening night of The Dark Knight Rises. One of the best experiences of my life. But man, I don't like how some of those fight scenes were shot. Thank you for the breakdowns, I'll be able to watch them again with these pointers in mind.
awesome video Joey, guess Batman favores human shields. My favorite part was when he used the guys head to hit the others wrist, never seen something like that before. And yes I think a separate channel would be a good idea considering the many possibilities for fight scene breakdowns. this may be a long shot but I would like to see Optimus Prime from the transformers series if possible, especially the 2nd films forest fight.
+spiderswebs william hmmm, never thought of doing transformers one. But yes, that fight scene is fairly complicated, so it should be a good breakdown
More Splinter Cell Blacklist please! Preferably another takedown with the Karambit. Thank you!
0:36 this attack pattern was added to Arkham Knight. It gives me that good ol' boxing vibe.
I think the breakdowns should be on the same channel, if you haven't already made it.
It looks like Bruce is doing the Oblique kick to that one dude, the nasty Jon Jones kick to the knee cap
Love your videos Bro,,,, keep em coming!!
+taurus hill For sure, and thanks
Yes! please make a second channel! And show more than 1 move in each video please. Thanks
Batflecks Batman is the Best Batman in my opinion, but Bales Batman given the way that he fought was very unique by adapting the Keysi Fighting Style, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, along with the quick Ninja like moves to get the job done which i liked very much.
I did enjoy Affleck's portrayal of Batman and Bruce Wayne. However, I give more credit to Bale for his performance because he did most of the fight scenes himself, if not all of them. Richard Cetrone was the man responsible for being in the Batsuit during the fights and bringing the BvS version of Batman to new heights with beating up those bad guys. Affleck was only used for some close up shots. But credit where credit is due, Affleck definitely put in the work to gain the muscular physique of an older Batman.
@@JoeyBslash3 respect that opinion
imagine the years of training it will take to apply this to a street fight with perfect execution
I don't know about 2 channels, man. It could be great, but it could spread your subscribers thin. I don't really know what would be more beneficial to you. But the idea of analysing more movie scenes is great.
Wish he could have finished the whole scene, but this is still super cool
I should sometime...it was a really cool scene
Awesome bro love it
Great stuff! Would love to see some Solid Snake/Big Boss breakdowns.
+Jendo Shabo Thanks, I appreciate the support. I will definitely do some Big Boss or Shake breakdowns in the future. For now though, I will recommend you to the Martial Gamer. He has a ton of stuff on the Metal Gear CQC
I need to get back into it
Good content Joey, keep it up, thanks. Even though you said the rest of that scene is self explanatory, I still wanted to see you do that double dragon 🐉 punch 👊 that Batman did to Joker 🃏 mainly for the fun of it & how you'd execute it. I'm sorry, the move might be called dragon 🐉 fist 👊, but you know what I mean, when he catches him with the double fist to his front.
Thanks! I am working on a filming and posting schedule. Also thinking about a second channel to separate the movie stuff from the video games. Yeah, that double strike was unexpected. It would hurt like hell though with Batman's reinforced gloves. They probably have the same graphite material on his knuckles as he does on his cowl.
From Batman v Superman bro, nice video.
+Mart G.444:v Thanks! I am working on getting the one from BvS done
please do a ong bak fight scene
I love the simplicity of Tony Yaas style. However, the movements themelves are not all that easy.
I think you mean Ong Bak 2 (which is not related plot-wise) where he used some more fancy techniques worth explaining.
nice breakdown
+Jamal Ashley Thanks bro
Awesome video boss! I suggest the end fight from Taken 2
the dark knight specializes in keysi no wonder he got his back broken
Hey Joey, what about the fight scene where Batman saves Blake from Bane's thugs?
I plan on doing that one
@@JoeyBslash3 Nice, great work
Thanks!
The second channel is a good idea.
Mr. Joey, can we see you do your own cool fight scene? I bet you would orchestrate a cool looking and effective scene bro. Thanks for your channel and keep up the good work
I have received requests for making my own fight scene. I will have to put some time in and see what I can come up with
Courage achieves a life worthy purpose for the man who is most prepared to die is he who is best prepared to live.
Yup using panatukan
I think it'd be perfectly find to add movie scenes on this channel
Keysi was invented in Spain, which is a very safe country. My father has been living there for about 4 years and has never been in a dangerous situation. But I'm not saying that the system doesn't work
Filipino Kali focuses on multiple opponents, just not in the mainstream classes you can find easily. But yes, many traditional styles do not focus on multiple opponents.
The "Spanish gypsy" thing is just branding. I'm sure Keysi borrowed from several martial arts styles including Filipino martial arts
I love this sequence thank you!!! About the movie/tv sequences, huuum.....I understand the question since this is a "Fit-Gamer" channel, but I'm really down for it if you post it in this channel! Though I can't guarantee my view for many videos because I haven't watched many movies fpr years, though I'm starting to. ;-)
+TheDEATHHIT Ha awesome! Yea I'm still kinda debating whether or not starting a second channel is a good idea. I might just decide to keep everything on here. We shall see
do some John Wick please, thanks for saring your time
+Tristan Tristan Those movies are on the list ☺👍
I need to see that video so bad thanks friend
+Tristan Tristan no problem
I wish batman would actually use fighting moves that work, like boxing, kickboxing techniques and judo/wrestling throws. Like john Wick
He does
@@JoeyBslash3 maybe canonically, but in the movies i feel like its overly koreographed
How did you feel about the BvS batman warehouse fight scene?
@@JoeyBslash3 i like it as a movie fight scene especially because he also takes damage and isnt omnipotent, but fighting multiple opponents just doesnt look like that.. He used a few judo throws and basic boxing which I like
I liked that they incorporated more of his gadgets in that fight scene, like you can in the Arkham games. Yes, Batman is a martial artists, but to when fighting that many henchmen, he needs an advantage because martial arts alone won't get the job done.
Pls teach bahubali fight scenes
I’ve never done any fight training of any kind, so forgive me if I’m a little ignorant, would these moves be as effective... in a real life situation, as they are here..?
Best regards
Dave
No, film and video games are made for entertainment, so the choreography is usually specifically designed to be entertaining. Are the moves based on real life martial arts and self defense techniques? Absolutely...but to know the difference and train for real life is a whole different situation. I have trained some of these techniques for real life, they are quite effective if you know how to use them properly.
And I appreciate the question and you being humble about your knowledge, or lack thereof. We all have things we specialize in. I'm sure there is something you are much better than I am with, so the fact that you want to learn shows some a good character trait
JoeyBslash 3 a good example of my theory is within the fight between Batman and Joker’s Goons.
When Batman uses thug #1 as a weapon, by using his head to disarm thug #2, that just wouldn’t work in a real fight, I’d more likely get shot?
Some of the hammer blows and throwing techniques I can see being very effective, particularly the throwing and the way Batman gets enough leverage in his grip, using both hands locked around the goons throat?
Best regards
Dave
@@davidbentick Indeed, the headbutt to the gun disarm is not recommended lol. Again, it was made to look cool. Lots of the movements become much wider and open as well so the viewers can see and understand the action. In real life, many movements would be much tighter and shorter in comparison.
JoeyBslash 3 It just shows... that even though Nolan’s universe is more grounded and aimed for realism, he still had to trade off... in order to entertain the viewers, so it’s not as realistic as it seems, and if it was... It just wouldn’t be as exciting, which is understandable as you don’t see things on camera the same as you do in the real world.
Just one more question, what’s the
most realistic fight you’ve seen on film, if there is such a fight?
Best regards
Dave
nice video. a second channel would be great. greetz from germany.
+Kulog76 Danke, I appreciate the support
It was bad ass I took some hand to hand combat
Hello Everyone,
I am a Keysi Practioner. I also do Krav Maga, Systema, and U.S. Military Combatives. I saw this video and wanted to inform y'all that the Dark Knight trilogy used basic Keysi, because real Keysi would look to Brutal, and you don't want kids copying what they see in films lol
I also teach, so if y'all have any questions on the art, feel free to ask.
everything just moves so slow in that fight scene, was the armor slowing the batman down?
Armor always slows you down. Even if it is lighter than his previous suit, it would still slow you down. But I also think he was trying to make sure nobody got shot, including himself lol. He was going for power knockout hits too, instead of quick weaker hits
I pity the shield guy🤣🤣
It's a good idea
Looks pretty lit. Ever thought about tackling some Shadow of Mordor stuff? I was surprised to see some decent choreography in a fantasy game. Imo, at least.
+Cirlex oh hell yea. I'm definitely going to be getting some moves from that one. I really look forward to playing it.
"The best"
How about the No Retreat No Surrender? The final fight with jean claude van dam
Dude, I actually just watched that movie again yesterday LOL. I forgot how fun the fight scenes are and how it has got a heavy smear of 80's cheese. Such a retro classic haha. I should definitely do a fight scene from that movie
@@JoeyBslash3 sweet when you do the fight scene breakdown of it can you give me a shout out please? it'll be so cool if you did
@@JoeyBslash3 how about dong the final fight from metal gear solid 3 snake eater between snake and ocelot? the fight on the plane
Sure, I try to give shout outs when I can for suggestions :)
I honestly didn't like that fight. It was cool and fun to watch while playing the game and going through the story, but the choreography is quite silly for the most part. I get what they were trying to go for with the counters to the throws, but it became too flashy for me. I really enjoyed the final fight in MGS 4, as you can see from the video we did. That one gets over the top dramatic, but again it works when playing through the story of the game. I might do the MGS 3 final fight someday just for fun
I still wanna see THE BOURNE IDENTITY hallway fight.
I did a part of it, where Bourne grabs the pen and counter attacks. Have you seen that video?
@@JoeyBslash3 yeah, in the room. I wanted to see the very first segment. I know it's a tough one, considering the fast editing, but am still hoping you can.
You should do the Batman Telltale games fight scenes.
That would be fun. But I think the stunt team that does it already do an amazing job. They are based out of Chicago I believe, which is near me lol
Oh you mean break them down...gotchya
yeah. thats what i meant.
Please do Batman begins fight scenes
I do want to do some of those. They are shot in a way which makes it hard to see what's going on
Can you do a fight scene break down on the dark knight rises where batman save john blake from bane's mercanaries? Would love to see that!!!!!!!
Yes, I plan on it :)
Thank you for the breakdown. Can you do the first fight from Batman Begins at the dock?
That one would be difficult. It is shot in a way where it is almost impossible to see what is going on. I will have to take a look
Ure a fking legend dude
Thanks!
yea
Batfleck fight scene (Batman v Superman)
I plan on it
Sure the actions scenes of the trilogy is lacking but in terms of drama, great villains, interesting character arcs, realism & art design it still actually works. One of best action scenes from the film is the opening scene & chase scene from Dark Knight.
Absolutely!

I guess we can call him the 'Hammerman.'
+Ahmad Hasan indeed, he loves those hammerfists
Yes dear, I think I may learn and use them. Thank you very much for this breakdown, I saw this fight long ago and thought many of the hammers to be elbows; the way he throws them is truly magnificent.
Yea, sometimes in real time it is hard to see what he actually uses to strike the opponents
Looking back at it I hated his bat suit slowed him down dosnt really protect him even a dog hurt him
I'm beginning to get the feeling batman likes hammer fists
Good thing this fight didn't take 400 shots.
+do you see me? well, you can't cuz i can't see you I know, right?
Could you do the Mission impossible Fallout bathroom fight scene ?
That was a cool fight scene indeed. I saw it in theaters, they did a great job
BVS fight scene (rescuing Martha)
Indeed, I have it on the list
Hey. I was wondering about the fight towards the end of this movie with the SWAT. The bit where 3 of them rappel into the building and are met with Batman. In it there's a throw that Batman does after he first punches the guy. Does this particular throw have a name or something? If not, does that two handed grab that he does to control the shoulder before he throws him have a name? Thanks.
