This is the best performance of this song, hands down. I cannot stop listening to it and when I’m not listening to it I’m humming or singing it to myself.
My favourite version of this song. The gold standard. Every live version is different and nuanced with alternate solos and feel. This earlier version with the Strat is simply the best. Mayer is the most talented guitarist of his generation and a great songwriter.
I totally agree with how amazing he is, However I wouldn't say under rated by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone knows this man, he's played with BB King and many others. He's doing well for himself. As he very well should. There is one pretty underrated guitarist I know who deserves more credit, and his name is Rabea Massad. Look up some of his 10-15min jams with his friends on youtube. He does a lot of stuff I love with blues and rock. Not a real big fan of his metal stuff, but to each his own, he's still awesome.
I don't have any musical ability at all.....wish I did. Whether that makes me more in awe of those that have I don't know. But I do know what music moves me and here it is -John Mayer the absolute master.
I'd like to had seen Prince and John Mayer perform a duo, then have them play alternating solo's. Both being great performers not just behind a mic, but their ability to make their guitars gently weep.
I don't like all his songs. But some are absolute masterpieces And just once in my life I want someone to touch me like he touches his guitar. Perfection
No one should be that talented. Oh my god. To top it all off, he MADE that song. Creativity at the highest level, guitar at the highest level, singing at the highest level. Also he happens to be handsome. Some people were born for what they do.

from 4.29 onwards...John shows who he really is.....a combination of Joe Satriani and Prince...a carefullly crafted solo linning with a hardcore shredding feel....what did I just witness......speechless
reasonably positive that he improvised the solo - nothing crafted about it.. watch live in LA version of same song for a carefully crafted solo... this is the shittiest recording of this song imo.. and i love mayer
Prince is a good comparison. Another artist who if you just listen to the radio pop hits, you will never get an appreciation for how exellent they really are.
One of the greatest singer songwriter blues guitarists of all time This guy is a phenom for sure. Eric Clapton said that he doesn’t think that John Mayer even knows how good he really is That is high praise indeed! I mean if Eric Clapton says your amazing then brother your amazing!
Everything is about capturing your audience and giving them that little extra that goes right into the soul and John does that with his guitar. He is a virtuoso who always knows where he is going and plays with such perfection that he is absolutely one of the best of all time.
I wonder if people in the audience realized what they were witnessing in this performance? This is one of the most stylishly masterful, technically magnificent, live guitar performances ever captured. Clapton, the greats...anyone who plays would agree...after they picked their collective jaw up off the ground....I guarantee. That solo was absolutely breathtaking. John! You are such a wonderful and talented guitar player, and I hope to see you when you come to California November.
This is the best performance of this song, hands down. I cannot stop listening to it and when I’m not listening to it I’m humming or singing it to myself.
Everybody refers to his guitar prowess, deservedly. But the lyrics are perfect.
My favourite version of this song. The gold standard. Every live version is different and nuanced with alternate solos and feel. This earlier version with the Strat is simply the best. Mayer is the most talented guitarist of his generation and a great songwriter.
That tap though. 3:09
That solo is medicinal. Damn!
Once in while I come back to this video to remind myself how great John Mayer really is. ❤❤❤❤
I like the fact the backup singers are dancing along and enjoying themselves.
His vocal is not always on point, but his guitar play is f'ing amazing. Most underrated guitarist in the world.
Lasse Petersen this ones right after his vocal surgery
John Mayer is far from beeing unrerrated. Ask Clapton, Buddy Guy, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys or any muscian out there.
He may not be underrated among fellow musicians but he's sure as hell underrated by the average person.
only by the average person who only listen to the radio hits..
That Fender smacks of SRV. So does the tone actually. Headband is all Jimmy! LOL. What a boss!
Mayer and Prince are easily the most overlooked and underrated guitarists ever.
I don't like all his songs. But some are absolute masterpieces
And just once in my life I want someone to touch me like he touches his guitar. Perfection
He makes guitar instrument look so sexy
This guy ranks amongst the greatest guitar players I have ever heard - but the difference is that he sings as well
And arguably his best attribute is his songwriting.
No one should be that talented. Oh my god. To top it all off, he MADE that song. Creativity at the highest level, guitar at the highest level, singing at the highest level. Also he happens to be handsome. Some people were born for what they do.
if you've ever been in one of these relationship where you know you're sinking and theres no way around it, but you still want to be with the other person so much, mayer captured that feeling from 5:44 to 6:15. man, i dont know how he does it but his sound isnt just sound, it's pure feelings.
it's a good song to cry to
I hope it's one of those things that will never disappear from the internet ❤
l agree with you, indeed John Mayer is a great and
talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,
he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and
always heals the Soul…
He's always been underrated. He's an amazing musician
NEVER GETS OLD
As a guitar player, this was fkn amazing to watch
As a chef it wasn't any worse, let me tell you buddy!! 😁
Love what he's wearing, real guitarist with human depth, discovered him 15 years too late. Bougtt 3 albums to make up.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? First time tearing up watching a solo. Wow.
In every aspect outstanding musician. Those are rare nowadays...
3:10 holy crap that was so clean
That solo....pure melodic expression
from 4.29 onwards...John shows who he really is.....a combination of Joe Satriani and Prince...a carefullly crafted solo linning with a hardcore shredding feel....what did I just witness......speechless
mel gibson Oh God that's not what you call shredding!
reasonably positive that he improvised the solo - nothing crafted about it.. watch live in LA version of same song for a carefully crafted solo... this is the shittiest recording of this song imo.. and i love mayer
Prince is a good comparison. Another artist who if you just listen to the radio pop hits, you will never get an appreciation for how exellent they really are.
Nice to see the strat in his hands again. Been a while since I have seen it
This is the best version of this song, hands down!
Damn it I need to see him Live
***** i do not even wan't to see him live if i get payed for it :)
Leon Haven And it wouldn't be smart, cause it'd been free money, even if you don't like him xD
Teaeli Anderson lucky
One of the greatest singer songwriter blues guitarists of all time
This guy is a phenom for sure.
Eric Clapton said that he doesn’t think that John Mayer even knows how good he really is
That is high praise indeed!
I've been a Mayer booster for years, but this is a whole different level. He obviously way honed his playing whilst jammin with The Dead
This is before the dead
ILY John mayer
I wonder if people in the audience realized what they were witnessing in this performance? This is one of the most stylishly masterful, technically magnificent, live guitar performances ever captured. Clapton, the greats...anyone who plays would agree...after they picked their collective jaw up off the ground....I guarantee. Think what you will about the man or his celebrity or whatever - but there aren't any left like this. Just had to be said. Carry on with your day.
I love John Mayer, he is too good to compare with....❤️❤️❤️
I went and saw John Mayer recently and afterwards I had a conversation with my father about how he stacks up with some of the greats. We both agreed that not only is he up there with Clapton, Hendricks, Paige, etc., but he's probably the last one of their kind. No one does this shit anymore.
He's a good guitar player and pop song writer, but he and this just don't do anything for me ..
