I feel like her catering to “her Target audience” held this song from being more mainstream. It should of been a Mega Hit had she made a video for the Masses instead.
Man, she was 53 yo at that time. She wasn't played on the radio because of her age. Plus, her album was leaked by a hacker, so the sales went from number 1 on first week to 8 on second week. Felt like she was forgotten, but she was (and still is) on fire. For the MDNA Tour, she was the Second Highest Grossing Tour by a Solo Artist, second only to her Sticky and Sweet tour. It's a statement, she does whatever she wants, even if people tell her "no" or the odds are against her. This song is an EDM statement and also an underrated masterpiece.

How crazy, here we have a couple of young youtube reactors 11 years later saying how amazing the song was, and the radio stations back then felt she was too old for that demographic then. This song could have been such a major hit if they had played it.

She made a spectacular version of this number in the awesome opening of her 2012 MDNA tour. She started this song by reciting a portion of the Catholic confessional prayer-Act of Contrition-(a title also of a song from her 1989 album Like A Prayer) then she transitions to the techno pop beat of Girl Gone Wild, evoking Madonna’s conflicted feelings about her early Catholic upbringing and its theology of being mindful of the need to ask for God’s forgiveness for our propensity to be sinful.

Her song HAS TO BE was released today on all music platforms. It doesn't have a video bc it wasn't released as a hit song back in 1998 for the Ray of Light album. It was featured as a bonus song only on the Japanese version of Ray of Light. It's a fan favorite!!! I highly recommend it!!!!!!

*Possibly Madonna will mash up Material Girl and Bad Girl and this Girl Gone Wild song on her upcoming Celebration Tour cos the Queen has too many great songs to put on the concert playlist but highly believe she will sing Frozen on her upcoming tour*
*This GGW track is a great pop EDM song but unfortunately did not make it past Billboard Hot 100 chart and did not receive Airplay well due to Madonnas crossed 50 age but if back then Madonna duet this song with Rihanna or Britney or Miley or Gaga possibly this song will receive several hundred millions RUclips view and the song will enter Billboard Top 5 or can be a Number 1*

Marissa is right on - that has always been a part of Madonna's image, role in the music industry and pop culture - a woman don't have to give up her sexuality in order to be taken seriously where as in the early 80's business world, it was the opposite - women felt they had to act reserved, suppress their femininity and sexualality to be taken as seriously as men. Madonna said - no you don't, I'm a strong independent woman who it outspoken yet provocative and people know it and treat me as an equal to men, maybe even more strong and domineering than some men. This revolutionized the idea of a feminist and why there were college courses being taught based on Madonna's influence on feminists, music and modern culture. Few performers have had as much influence on global culture as Madonna.

I think this is a great song and couldn't understand why it didn't hit the top ten charts. Thought the same of Celebration... great song, why is it not charting top ten. My thinking was that she just was out of flavor and considered old, so anything she comes up with must suck.
Interscope wasn’t supporting Madonna like Warner did. Under Warner, this song would have been a hit (at least in Europe).

This would have been a monster hit if any other younger pop star released it- but top 40 radio does not play Madonna or any other artist her age. Sad, really.
