No axes needed when you have good knives and saws with you that dont weight much and you know what to do building up great fires. No chairs as all the Yanks always need and even build . You are like us in Finland and Scandinavia keeping it simple and you have the best views in the World up there too. Tsuch !.

    Hi Taro .. It is nice seeing you again 😊.
    In addition to enjoying watching you thoroughly enjoying yourself getting up to mischief 😁 in that sort of weather (some of the worse and most dangerous in my opinion .. wet cold just above / below freezing), you have included very important 'learning points' in this video. If I may please? Some I picked up on ..
    1. Pulling something (cart / sled) as against carrying it, under some conditions, is more energy-efficient.
    2. Wet cold .. stay active to keep generating internal heat. When stopped, change into dry clothing .. especially the upper body core.
    3. Shelter .. from wind. 'Wind chill' can be a killer.
    4. Fire .. Prometheus the Greek Titan, kindly bequeathed this blessing upon Mankind and for which we are eternally grateful.
    5. Fat .. a high fat meal before bedtime gets that internal body furnace going and by doing so, makes for a warmer, more comfortable night. Seeing those lumps of pork belly fat made my mouth water .. yummy 😋.
    A good one Taro .. thanks for taking us along with you. Until next time, take care .. Tommy

      Dear Thomas, absolutely agree with you, to handle such circumstances you got to know what you doing. I know it looks a kind of easy but only a little mistake and all gets worst. I’ve the core temperature drops and you hav no protection, some spare clothes or a fire…the trouble starts. Even if you have spare clothes but no space to stay dry you’re in trouble. All your mentioned is basic and absolutely nessecary to enjoy conditions like that. Thanks so much for your response. Wish you a great weekend 👍 Taro

    Another video I missed! Anyway, if it's not too late. I hated wet snow/rain camping when I was young living in the northern US. I tended to bring a lot of woolen clothing as it seemed to work better. What do you prefer in this condition for sleeping bags and clothing? Wool, synthetics or down?

    • @Taromovies
      @Taromovies  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, never too late :-) Thank you for your support over such a long period of time. I also prefer clothes made of wool, they don't dry as quickly and are a bit heavier, but they keep you warm even when wet and are of course very breathable. In such conditions, a rainproof outer shel makes sense. Generally I recommend a synthetic sleeping bag for such wet conditions, it dries quicker and retains some loft even when wet, on the other hand, as in this video, I use a down sleeping bag which packs smaller and has less weight and much better thermal performance but with a water repellent outer layer and in combination with a waterproof bivy. I wish you all the best in 2024, Taro

    Quand on se refroidit, on peut rapidement n'être plus que l'ombre de soi-même. Votre copain dont vous admiriez les qualités athlétiques peut se transformer en un clin d'oeil en grand bébé incapable de trouver les gestes nécessaires et vous devrez vous-même ramasser ses gants abandonnés, remonter la fermeture de sa veste, lui bourriner le dos pour le forcer à se remettre en action. L'abandon de soi pendant une hypothermie peut être spectaculaire, comme nous l'avait raconté un jour un camarade, victime d'une immense poche d'eau crevée en gravissant une cascade de glace, qui ne se remettait pas d'avoir été si passif, ne devant sa survie que grâce à l'empressement énergique de son compagnon de cordée.
    Merci pour toutes vos vidéos très enrichissantes.

      @Taromovies  Год назад

      Absolutely agree👍 what is in this video a kind of easy looking, is actually like dancing on a steel cable, you have to take care not to cross the thin line to hypothermia, it needs experience, knowledge and the right backup gear, may you have seen my video about hypothermia, where I try to show that is so important to watch the early since of hypothermia, thanks for you very constructive response 👍👍👍 alles the best, Taro

    Taro what boots are you using?

    • @Taromovies
      @Taromovies  Год назад +1

      This time the Lowa Trident III GTX, ist very warm, light weight, very breathable, comfortable, Goretex, good for long walks in the cold, not recommend for steep areas and snowshoes, I choose it this time because I know we have long way to walk an need snowshoe only for a short time

    You've just demonstrated why waxing clothing is a very poor substitute for waterproof trousers.

      Absolutely agree, it’s a kind of protection and you have still some breathability but never water proof clothing, thanks for watching 👍

      Goretex is perfect in that weather

      Yes. Not that effective during extended periods of rain. Dry cold, a different story.
      Waterproof clothing. When used to protect against rain during strenuous activities, you're going to get wet from within.
      I Nordic Walk regularly and have experimented with various types of clothing .. especially during the Winter Months .. wet and dry cold. Summer, not a problem. "Whilst the clothing may get soaked, skin is waterproof'." My Swiss walking colleagues find my take on that quite amusing 😁.
      The best solution, in my opinion, as Taro said, is to stay active and keep generating heat. Having a change of dry clothing for afterwards, if necessary to do so, is essential.

      @@auroraborealisknives4019 Goretex works great under low activity / heat generation conditions.
      Up the pace and you'll get wet anyway from perspiration .. more so if it's raining.

      @@thomasmusso1147 I put on the goretex in camp. Waxed canvas isn’t particularly waterproof and doesn’t breath well
