Hard to beat SF, but surprised Monterey, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe didn't make the list
True-Lake Tahoe. Sonoma and Mendocino. Monterey… Big Sur-but I guess “Central California” needs something of their own.

I love your picks! Having grown up in California, I went to many (but not all) of these places and loved them all. San Francisco is my favorite but it is followed very closely by Monterey. If it wasn't so expensive now, I would happily live in either place.

Mt Tamalpais, Lassen, Lake Tahoe, Sierra Nevadas, stay far far away from Oakland. I'm not sure why all the travel sites always suggest Oakland. It's a hotbed of crime.

I live here. I wouldn’t go to Oakland of San Jose for tourism. Only if an event were there I really wanted to see. I went to a concert in Oakland, had an extra day there, beautiful weather. We took the ferry to San Francisco instead. Oakland was closed up and boring. Lassen and the Santa Cruz redwoods you show have suffered major fires. Be warned. Still nice places in both locations.
Planning to Visit Yosemite national park next month.
Have to put Yosemite over San Francisco. But totally different reasons to visit anyway.
As a native WTF putting Oakland on this list? Stay away from that place. San Francisco at number 1 is sadly no longer accurate due to crime and sanitary issues. North Cal is good for nature not cities.
This isn't really true, BUT you can't just throw a dart on a map and walk through any part of San Francisco anymore. I would stay away from places like the tenderloin district, but there are nice, fun and mostly safe neighborhoods still worth exploring. Nob Hill, The Castro, Golden Gate Park, etc are still worth visiting for sure
San Fran is a shit hole. Go a little further and visit Halfmoon Bay

@@Luvie1980 where do I begin? Overbuilt, traffic, homelessness, generally rude people, cost of living, cost of tourism, cost of anything else. It’s a fun place to visit, but it’s definitely not the place in California to visit if you have limited choices.
@@Luvie1980 Because Fox News has been denigrating the city for it's "liberal politics" for 20 years now and that is all these people know. There are areas to avoid as in all cities but the unique qualities of topography, architecture, high culture, urbanity and cuisine make it still one of the few memorable cities in the U.S.
Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown and the Fisherman's Wharf are worth visiting but be careful where you park. A lot of car break ins. Also, stay out of certain neighborhoods and watch your step (human feces and used needles might be on the sidewalks/streets).

For anyone that is going to nor cal or doesn’t know anything about nor cal do not go to Oakland or San Francisco unless you want to be dissatisfied. People who are actually for nor cal hate these places and we do not claim them. Go to redding to see the sun dial and have some good food with no traffic and stay at the Sheraton. Go check out the redwoods and the coast but please for anyone who thinks that SF and Oakland are NorCal they are not at all and they are disgusting.
