LoL...No Joe Cocker wasn't on drugs. Most everybody thought he was back in the day.but that was just Joe. He had these weird moves while singing. Like he had MS. But it never took away from him being one of the most gifted singers ever. You can't beat that voice.

One of the most iconic, epic concerts ever recorded. The story behind how it all came together is worth learning, I promise you. The double vinyl album is worth finding and buying.
Everything about this moment in time is epic.
I simply have too much to say about it.. so, just enjoy. You have stumbled upon a true masterpiece here.

The genius behind this arrangement is the guy in the top hat - Leon Russell. He was a hit maker for many top acts before releasing his own music.

Thanks for sharing this Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishmen footage. March 27th and 28th 1970. Fillmore East New York. Lots of talent on the stage....from Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett to Rita Coolidge...Bobby Whitlock and Jim Gordon.

John Robert "Joe" Cocker OBE (20 May 1944 - 22 December 2014) Joe toured into his last years giving spectacular performances and it was considered a great honor to be asked to be among his back-up band. Over the six decades many of the best artist were proud to be on stage with the Mad Dog Englishman.

"MAD Dogs And Englishmen" ..... a 60's group out of England that blew away the entire world with their performance at Woodstock with these songs. No other individual has Joe Cocker's vocals and performance character. Leon Russel's talents are on dozens of albums from many artist on keyboards or guitarist. Add the entire ensemble and you get a bit of British Classic Rock Legendary History.

Both of these songs were written by Ther Beatles, and they were friends with Joe, and gave their blessing for him to record his version. Huge hit, bigger than the Beatles. Ringo famously said, "I guess this is Joe's song now."

So many other stars in this video. Leon Russell with the top hat and the "Holy Trinity" T-shirt. I think this was from the early 70s. Joe took us to church. Britain's most soulful artist.

Back in the day I saw him live too many times to count...to the point that I actually said to my boyfriend, "AGAIN!? WE'RE going to see him AGAIN?" Looking back now, I can't believe the wealth of talent that was here for us to enjoy. Glad they're still being appreciated.❤

Joe cocker suffered from epilepsy... The Beatles did both of those songs as well... I suppose the dog might have something to do with his album mad dogs and Englishmen I don't know... I was lucky enough to see Joe cocker many years ago at pine knob in Clarkston Michigan..
Absolutely phenomenal the whole band was wearing white like suits and with the black lights and all the lights it was like they could change colors.... Very awesome concert...

Awesome performance... here's something that I think we would all find interesting; do back to back versions of "Delta Lady" from Joe Cocker and then Leon Russell. It was written by Leon and they both have wonderful studio versions. Like the old commercial used to say, "try it, you'll like it."

Joe Cocker was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice & dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. He recorded a few Beatles' songs "With A Little Help From My Friends", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" & "Something". Other hit songs were "You Are So Beautiful", "Up Where We Belong" (a duet with Jennifer Warnes), "Delta Lady", "Darling Be Home Soon", "Cry Me A River", "Feelin' Alright", "The Letter" etc.

One of a kind, we loved him! and OMG weren't we fortunate (I'm 70) to have all this great music as the backdrop to our early years. Maybe that's why today's music seems flat and soulless to me. Joe's covers of Beatle's music is one of the few that I can listen to.

You would probably love Leon, check him out sometime. He often wears a top hat. He is known for piano, it surprised me to see him on guitar but he can play almost anything. You might be familiar with "A Song For You" already. It's been covered many times

My favorite version of With a Little Help From My Friends by far is definitely Joe’s performance from Woodstock. This one here is more “polished” imo, while the Woodstock one stands out strangely because it’s kind of the opposite. His female background singers got delayed, so his male band mates had to fill in for them, and Joes vocals at Woodstock were even better imo. Check it out when you can if you haven’t seen it. The scream alone gives me goosebumps every time.🙂
