I take this song as somebody struggling with mental health issues and being fully aware. He understands that he is hurting ppl around him but cannot himself, which he hates. It could also be a message of PTSD- a running theme in LOTL songs. It could be the man fighting against his PTSD, who makes him a different man. I have PTSD and I often feel like I have a “better me” and a “evil me”.
As a fan of their old stuff, I didn't like the latest two albums but I'm addicted to this song. Chris's voice is so beautiful and the music is just lovely but I think I'm addicted to this song because of how I can identify 100% with it, it hits me on a deep level.
