The first year, 1960 Ford Falcon was underpowered, with its 144 six cylinder engine. For 1961, the optional 170 six cylinder fixed that problem, if the buyer opted to buy it. The 170 engine was a much better engine in power and design, with more main bearings supporting the crankshaft. The Ford Falcon was the basis for the Fairlane , the Comet, the Mustang, the Cougar, the Torino and the Granada.

True.- it was a reworked version of their old cars - strictly Body-on-frame.
      [ but nicely done].

The Studebaker styling was great and a big engine like in Hollywood movies looked great and Buju Bantons Driver song made them look so cool.

My dad drove his 1963 Plymouth Belvedere till the late 1970's, it had a slant 6 and 3 speed on the column shifter and used as a daily driver year round till the winter salt finally made it unsafe to drive, he loved it because it was simple with nothing to break, no power steering or brakes, no air conditioning, when the junk yard came and towed it away, I thought I saw a tear in his eye as he watched the wrecker hooking his car up then disappear from view with his car unceremoniously on the hook behind as it drove away, then he walked back to the house a little slower than usual
