I used your website to find out how to do this journey in 2018. I was so lucky as the entire trip was in deep snow, making the views from the train absolutely stunning. Thank you for your inspiration!
Mark Smith is the man. I've followed his instructions for our trip from Munich to Salzburg, Salzburg to Prague, and Prague to Vienna. I'd have never found €10 anytime tickets for Munich to Salzburg without his tricks. Same for the other destinations as well. Our friends (another couple) were so happy to travel by train at such cheap ticket prices, all kudos to Mark and his step-by-step instructions.
Yes, he's the best one on trains, and his videos are exemplary. No ego, no endless videos of his face. Just great information and good shots. Thank you, Mark!
Great video, thanks for putting it together. I just did the Milan to Tirano and then later the Tirano to St Moritz train ride and loved it. It was snowy most of the way up and just beautiful. Your more summery video looks brilliant and I'd love to do the same trip in that season also sometime. The corkscrew bridge is really cool! Cheers
Wow! Thank you for posting this. We took the Bernina Express in the opposite direction, from Chur to Tirano, two years ago. It was wonderful to watch this and relive the experience. I'd love to go back and do it again. Just amazing!
Oh yes the memories of my journey from Milian to Tirano and then on the Bernina Express to St Moritz and back ,one that would be embedded with me for years thank you posting this
I am planning to take this trip later this year. I cannot wait! I absolutely love traveling by train in Europe. Mark's site has always been a HUGE asset in planning my journeys.
I've done this wonderful trip numerous times, and watching it now, I'm so ready to buy a ticket from Vancouver and go there NOW!! Your video is excellent, well photographed, titled, and edited. Well done, Mark! Thanks for sharing.
Fascinating landscape ! But you leave 10:20 am in Milano and arrive 7: 53p.m ? I mean, this train is great for tourism but not if you are hurry. greetings.
Very well photographed video, Mark. I have done this trip 3 or 4 times and never tire of it. Many trains claim title to the best railway journey in the world. This one has to truly be near the top of any list right along with the Interlaken - Eiger route. A bonus with the Bernina Eexpress is that it's included as part of any eurail pass covering Switzerland. And the train's splendid eye-popping red colour has to be a definite plus for any photographer - still or video. Hugh - Vancouver, Canada,
Zurigo bellissima città ho lavorato lì dal sessanta al sessantotto ero come a casa mia oggi in pensione sono Sarda e rientrata. In Sardegna ad Alghero che nostalgia ciao
No, although the RhB is involved in the running of both of them and they overlap, both operating over the Chur-St Moritz section. Glacier Express is east-west Zermatt to St Moritz, Bernina is north-south Chur to Tirano.
I am going to Milan on a business trip. My travel agent accidentally booked my return ticket from Zurich instead of Milan. So, now I have to go to Zurich from Milan. I was hoping that if the route was scenic, I would rather take a train than change my schedule. It looks gorgeous.
Although I've read in many places that the Glacier Express is better, I rode it from Zermatt to Chur and then rode the Bernina as part of a trip from Chur to Venice the next day (so...slow, medium past Lake Como, then fast to Venice from the gorgeous Milano Centrale). For scenery, I think the Bernina Express wins -- hands down. Thanks for the memories!
I recomand this pass with Bernina from Zurich to Milano. I went this yournay by car and I enjoy it. Specialy like landscape near Bernina pass , there are pictoresque mountains...
Beautiful scenery...I did notice most seats appear to remain in up right position, either against a partition or back to back, some single seats available, but for someone with back or hip problems its along trip not to be able to recline!
There was a major change in buying tickets to bernina express from zurich hb to tirano..you cant buy the 7:07 - 12:49 train with 1 stop at chur in trainline...this just happened 2 days ago...i just dont know what happened...;(
Beautiful cars as well as scenery. In the first portion we left Milan two seconds later we are circling Lake Como, I recall that being a fairly long and very scenic trip, I wonder why it was left out
Those squeaky wheels need some grease! Seriously, this is perhaps my third viewing of this "travel vlog" and it's as pleasurable as ever. Keep up the good work.
Just dicovered your channel and subbed immediately. Love travelling by train and hope to be able to experience the Pulmann trains someday/night! labsolutely Loved looking out the window from the bed, when waking up in with stunning views in Switzerland. My grandparents took all (4) grandchildren with them in sleeper cars to skiing holidays. While our parents drove there. Great memories! Thank you for bringing them back to me :-)
Will be at Milan Airport on 10th May at 21:00 Hrs local time. For travelling to Zurich there is no connecting flight till next day evening , so planning to take train but not sure of how to travel from Milan Airport to train station to catch train for Zurich, will be with family so need safe mode of transport as it will be night . Or if night commute not advisable then can we stay at Milan Airport till morning
I am a photographer and amateur alpinist is there several stops along the way that would provide a gap to explore the countryside/glacial altitude areas? :D :D Love the video :) .
What a trip! Is it like a slow roller coaster ride going up to 7k plus mountain? The view is so majestic. But at the start of the spiral. I noticed some part of the hill are deforested and covered with boulders. Isn't that dangerous when those boulders crumble down when having a tremor?

Thanks for this, I have been considering this for late September.
