Food prices are almost the same everywhere, the only difference is what shop you use (eg Checkers or Woolworths). So Woolworths in Soweto costs about the same as the one in Sandton.

One thing I LOVED about Woolworths is the way that employees will stop what they are doing and walk you exactly to what you are looking for. At one point, we had three people helping us find Parmesan cheese!! One lady pushed our cart helping us find gluten free items!

For clarification, we have different modes of transportation. We have Ubers/bolt, we have airplanes, trains. Sandton is starting to get flooded by small rickshaw type of vehicles and you get the minibus taxis which are found everywhere in the country but are mostly used by middle-lower class people.
We have regular big city buses too. In Joburg you have the Rea vaya alongside the Gautrain bus. The issue is that buses have limited stops compared to Minibus taxis which literally go all over the city. Our train system is not the best because of the poor leadership and our only luxury/bullet train situated in Gauteng (where you currently are) only goes to a few places as well.

It's the same as US dollar but when it's plural Americans and many other will add an "s" which is more than one it's a western culture thing even though Africa says Rand no matter the amount. Kinda of like Africans saying " eeh" or Canadian saying " A" is a culture thing.

I have been to SA a few times in the past years.. Compared to the U.S., supermarket prices are at least 25 percent less in general.. There are products in SA that are just as expensive as the U.S. Chocolate, ice cream, butter, some fruits, etc, etc, are actually more expensive in SA. I saw many in SA making very selective at what they were purchasing... It's a difficult time in the world with all the inflation.

Not $10, we use Rand. It's not R10 for a punnet either, it's R50 (about US$2,60), and if you buy two, you 'save' R10, so two punnets for R90 (about US$4,70). It's a marketing thing. Always read carefully! And I think it said 500 grams, we only use metric measurements.
