Who ever wrote this story line did it a GREAT disservice!!!!! There wasno Magnum in the original G1 lore. Ultra magnus was fitted from 1 Autobot. That Autobot was DION!! Dion and Elita 1 was reformatted from the Schematics the Alpha Trion used to rebuild Orion Pax into Optimus Prime. That is the 100% Factual story line of the Trans formers G1.
Dude this a prequel it's supposed to fill in the stories we didn't see magnum could have actually existed but we just didn't see them because the show focused on earth.

I'm a little confused, were the pods put on the Ark as a way to explain why people like Perceptor, Grapple, Smokescreen, and Tracks appear for no reason during season 2 of the US generation one cartoon series?
No, the pods were left on Cybertron. The people in the pods were re-activated when energy began to return to Cybertron which we see happen in the Ultimate Doom 3-parter towards the end of season 1. This activates those in the pods and allows them to show up in Season 2.
If you think the pods were put on the Ark for transportation purposes, keep in mind that after The Ultimate Doom, Cybertron was much closer to Earth and flights to-and-from Cybertron to Earth could be done in a very quick time and on a Cybertronian's individual power without the use of a ship.
Ah, that makes sense. However if memory serves me correct, that's what had happened in the Marvel US comics where there was Autobots left in stasis on the Ark. (I think it was Smokescreen, Inferno, Grapple, Hoist, and Tracks)
Not that I'm saying that the Marvel Us comics and the US G1 cartoon are in the same timeline, just that it did happen in one of the Primax story lines.
