  • In what is a very symbolic number, we respectfully announce that SOWF just graduated our 444th college student! 444 is quite significant, as, during the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979, the combined total of American citizens and diplomats held hostage amounted to 444 days. Operation Eagle Claw, the failed, but courageous, attempt to rescue these hostages, resulted in the loss of eight service members, leaving behind 17 children. This tragic situation prompted what would become Special Operations Warrior Foundation. In the accompanying video, you will hear meaningful messages from Colonel (Ret) John Carney, former President of SOWF, who was directly involved with Operation Eagle Claw and instrumental in the 1980 birth of SOWF, and Colonel (Ret) Sean Corrigan, current Executive Vice President of SOWF. Join us in commemorating this momentous milestone while congratulating Sydnie Lubbers, SOWF Graduate #444! Sydnie is the daughter of US Army Sergeant Major William Lubbers, who lost his life in 2012 while assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group, and she recently graduated from the University of Tampa with a bachelor's degree in Biology.
