    I do love the tiles on the wall - so deliciously 1960s and very typical of tower blocks to have either fancy tilework or coloured mosaic in the ground floor lobby. Shame when blocks get modernised they chip away all those lovely 60s details - not least the lift itself!

      @Lift.Tracker  3 года назад +1

      Absolutely! It’s amazing that these lifts are still here, and with all the original building features. I’d assume that this is a deliberate attempt to preserve it. I wonder if the people that live there appreciate it though, or if they think “I which they’d spend some money on this place and refurbish it”.

    Despite the fact that is not in the best condition, I still consider this lift to be EPIC!

    Great video. At least they are still original. I don't think there are many examples of completely original Express lifts left in existence (in Britain anyways, I know there are quite a few left in New Zealand)

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker  3 года назад +1

      Yes, there definitely seems to be more of them in NZ. There’s still a fair few original ones around in the UK, but they’re rapidly disappearing sadly.

      @@lbsiuk It’s very rare that you’ll find them just by chance. Most of the lifts I’ve filmed, I deliberately went there knowing that there was one so that I could see it before it’s modernised.

      That door on the left was to the stairway. Would be really cool if it was some sort of sheave / pulley room at the bottom of the shaft though!

    When it's actually in motion, it appears to be really smooth and quiet. Great video, what camera are you using (I'm assuming a phone of some sort?)

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Yes, it is. It’s mainly just the door which makes a racket. There seems to be a slight problem with the door mechanism causing it to rebound back the other way again. I think I know what’s causing it - basically a hinge which is moving past it’s intended travel point. I assume you know what the mechanism above looks like?

      @@Lift.Tracker Just today I was in our family's holiday flat in Brighton. The block was built in the 1950s and originally had 1st gen Express lifts. They had a mod in the 90s but it was fairly light. It is a blind VF and Lester, but it's been set up pretty well for a blind VF, not too far from intelligent leveling. The doors are the original Express ones, with the weird little window and old mechanism, and also the maroon colouring. I've got some videos on my channel. IIRC one of the videos is called "lifts scraping their tracks" or something like that.

      If you’re in Brighton, there is an original Express in a small furniture shop called “Heal’s”. It should still be there, but it’s been about 2 years since I was there. :-)

    The door timer definatelly needs to be longer probably most people take the stairs because of the risk of getting hurt from a short door timer and the doors slamming on their hand or something

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker  2 года назад

      Yeah, the door timer is quite dodgy. It does have beam sensors though, so it won’t close if there’s someone in the door.
