I just mixed the stuff shown in this tutorial with what's shown in a newer video called "This could have saved me HOURS on character rigging…." to make a game-ready rig with a bendy IK spine! Dikko, you're the best Blender teacher ever!
I'm hooked!!! Teach me everything. New people: it's going to mess up. But it's not a race to finish, it's a race to learn. Just go back as far as needed and don't let things be wrong. You'll learn way more. Because you'll have to "understand" it, to figure out where you went wrong. And yes, blender changes the menus whenever their Python loving minds feel like it. So it's not just you.
Thanks for understanding the point of the kind of videos I make. There is never a "quick fix" solution to a job well done or a lesson well learnt. For anyone else who sees this reply - version control your work! If you screw up, roll back a file to 20 mins prior or as far as you need to get back to before the problems showed up.
This is an ADVANCED tutorial. If you find this video a little overwhelming, I highly recommend you check out the previous videos! For anyone using that great tuto to learn bendy bone. A little problem might happen. If the upper body squash or stretch when you play with the bendy bones. You just need to select the bone of the chest and alt + p clear parent and it should react the same as he did at 17:43
I did alt + p on the shoulders and it fixed it for me And now I had to reparent the shoulder to the spine, I'm not sure what I did but it might've been parented to the wrong bone
Hi, Dikko! Thank you for great tutorials! They are very comprehensible and relatively easy to follow. Just one small critique from me: it would be much clearer if you named the objects you are selecting instead of just saying "this object". Due to visual messiness of complicated structures like a rig, it's not always clear what exactly you are selecting, especially if one watches your video from small screen. Or, if it's easier to achieve, showing full/relevant hierarchy in outliner menu would be also a great option. I think because programs like blender change constantly, some minor details that worked previously stop working in newer versions and ppl might need additional steps to achieve same results. I'm not saying this to complain, just to warn you about problems people might get stuck on and that might be avoided in the future, should you deside to continue your valuable work. Thank you again for the series!
Hello Dikko, first of all thanks for all the awesome tutorials, they are great. I am running into a problem though, when assigning the bendy bones contraints, the bendy bones strech, but don't bend towards the MCH_SpineTwistAim bone, it just forms a line while not bending along the subdivions within the bendy bone. The bendi bone just stays straight while streching. Have I missed something? Edit: Okay, I continued the tutorial and you fixed my problem in the next step by declaring the start and end handle. I am still very confused why it looked correctly in your version before you took that step, but oh well. So for anyone who has the same problem, just keep going, Dikko's got you covered! :D
Wow, another really really really long tutorial. But this time it only took me 5x as much time as the video length, which may just be a record for me on the series xD Great one again, Dikko!
So I can follow along with all this and get the same result but I'm finding I'm not actually any closer to understanding and replicating the same results without a guide. Is there a way to like learn each of the tools/ constraints and other doo hickeys you used in a theoretical way? I am an animator by trade and I would love to transition to becoming more of a rigger. I just don't know where a good place to start is.
Hi Dikko, thank you for your tutorials those are really the best here for blender characters! I really need some knowledge about rigging face, are you planning to create a tutorial about that?
When working on this rig, if you have a bone effecting the model differently from the video am I able to fix it after completing it or should I stop and debug what I did wrong? I think I just fixed it. wonderful
differently from the video 17:43 ? when I "G" MCH_spireTwistAim.002, it wil influence upper body include head and arm, but "R" will be normal same like video.
My bendy bones "break" or "snap" immediately when I start rotating one way, but then it does a full 180 the other way without breaking. Also when I move the control handle around it flickers in and out of broken state. Any sugguestions?
I fixed it. I had to grab the twistAim and twistParent and shit+n match it to active bone, in this case the bendy bone itself. This way it centers at the spot that gives you 180 degrees of movement each way before it bricks.
do anyone have the same problem when i move the hip ctrl bone after removing thetransform constraints it influences the upper body i followed the tutorials but it doesnt working 11:19
I do also, any way to fix it? Edit for anyone still wondering: Just keep following the video haha, once you start adding constraints around 17:40 ish it will fix itself
I had a problem at around 21:14 where my spine deform bones were not moving together, I had to check if the DEF spine bones were parented and after parenting them it was fixed. Hope this help someone
19:00 when I made this the location moviment just stop working and the MCH Spine started to work only with rotation moviments. What could I did wrong? (Im using 3.0 version btw)
27:05 I'm having serious problems with this part, when I parent the midsectionparent to the middle FK bone, it either doesn't work, or has errors! I can tell this is because the bone is trying to follow the location of the IK bone above and the hip bones below, while also trying to follow it's parent bone! Ht also doesn't help that the dampened track makes it impossible to rotate it, so what is he doing differently here with this that makes the bone system actually work? 😭
@@ferranzozaya3151 yes, it was months ago so it is kind of hard to remember exactly what was done but I remember finding a way to just ignore that step and make something different that still worked instead

If you're using blender 4.0, press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + S to resize bendy bones. CTRL + ALT + S duplicates the file in blender 4.0

How is this 3 years old? I swear I was looking for exactly a tutorial like this a year ago who goes in depth for beginners, great stuff

You can switch bendy bones on to a mixamo rig - and no the bendy bone function will not transfer to unity
