    Could you do a demonstration of the same joint, but setting the part flat on the table. Explain what you look for to keep the legs even since now you're having to deal with gravity. Great videos!

    • @mrillis9259

      I don't think it's possible to keep a even leg there like I think you said .
      What the boiler makers inspection unit on a audit told me.
      It has to be at least the size that the print from the engineers says.
      So you have to get the upper leg filled with multiple passes
      It is what it is unless you have an angled rotation device

    Hi Dusty,
    I'm curious on how to get started with tig welding a art piece. More on the planning side of things rather the doing part. Thanks.

    • @PacificArcTigWelding
      @PacificArcTigWelding  7 месяцев назад

      Hi James! Definitely something specifically on planning, having everything ordered and directions planned, and if you notice in my videos I typically always keep my welding a little ways away from each pass, I only welded right next to its neighbour once the piece has cooled in that area. With stainless this is how I am able to keep my colors. Hopefully this helps! Thanks so much for checking my videos out!🙂

    Try using a #6 or #5 regular cup without the gas lens, you’ll get less arc wander and better arc control. Just a tip to give a try.

    Thanks Dusty, great tutorial, but I was waiting to see how you finish the end of the pass. The end is short, and did not tie into the tack on the end. For me this seems to be challenging to get it to look right. As for a request for a joint, outside corner with different material thicknesses (2x). Thanks again. Your video editing and audio are awesome.

    Motorsports bungs being welded to round tube would be great, stainless bungs and/or alum bungs. Like for a wideband o2 sensor in the exhaust or an intake air temp sensor in intercooler piping. The angle is always changing and visibility isn't the easiest to get.

  • @coalblack

    Love it bro!! Fill and chill my dude!! So just today I had a set of aluminum stairs that had cracked welds, the joint butted up against an upright which didn't allow for filler rod to go in straight in line with the joint so I had to fill it 90° from the direction of the joint if that makes sense. It came out great but I would love to see how you'd do it. I think a good vid for you to do imo would be welding a joint where the filler has to be fed in from a strange angle or direction. I love the bend the rod trick youve shown and I use it often. Just couldn't do it on this application.

  • @Ninjavaz
    @Ninjavaz Год назад

    It always looks easy when you do it! Could you give some tips on doing a fillet weld in thinner gauge stainless.For example around a pipe to a flat plate with 2mm wall thickness. I seem to always add too much filler as I’m frightened to burn through. Using 1mm filler wire seems no better than 2.4mm filler wire. Seems to always want to burn holes in the vertical part! Also, the weld pool results in a horse shoe on the leading edge which is probably not good. Adding the filler into the hose shoe doesn’t flow into the perfect beads you get. Thank you for all the effort you put into the videos.

    Id like to see the f
    Differences between practicing on mild steel. And stainless steel. I'm just starting out with my own welder and I'm to cheap to buy stainless steel for practicing purposes. I'd like to see what the similarities and differences between the 2 types of steel

    • @thesuperjed1
      @thesuperjed1 3 года назад +1

      I’ll chime in here-
      Mild steel is perfect to practice on, as it TIG welds very similar to 304/316 stainless steel.
      Both mild steel and stainless are more difficult when the thickness gets below 1/8”. So my advice is only graduate to 1/8” and below once you’ve mastered 1/8” and above, as it’s much more forgiving. I’d personally recommend starting out DC TIG welding with some 3/8 thick mild steel.
      Another downside to practicing on stainless is you’ll consume more argon, as your gas cup will likely be much larger so therefore require higher gas flow, and if it’s a full penetration weld, you’ll need argon on the back-side of the weld also (to prevent carbide precipitation)
      This is a great channel by the way, and you will learn alot by watching this content, Dusty definitely seems to know what he’s doing! Experienced fabricator and a great teacher.

    • @Proxtor
      @Proxtor 3 года назад

      100% pen in all weld joints. the bead adds reneforcement. Without pen your weld joint will fail. That's why they cut and bend your welds in school and for certification. Dusty did a great video about the time he got in big trouble for pretty welds but lacked penitration.

For the most part I think your a great welder, but most real world welding your going to free hand it. So your students should know they can’t rely on propping their hand all the time.
