This Ethiopian is a credit to all peoples who see themselves as black and African. I saw Sankofa brilliant film, I also bought 500 years later an excellent film and thought provoking. God should bless the mother who produced this man. He is an inspiration.
I wish I knew him in my earlier years. I used to think like him. What a difference listening to a person like him can make. He defiantly invigorates what is dying in most of us-cultivating the inner self in lieu of our ancestors no matter what.
Sankofa has the best coffee in DC, bar none, and I've become a regular there. You can find Gerima in there every now and again, he's more than happy to talk to you about just about anything. I had had a couple of conversations with him and had no idea he was an acclaimed director until recently. I've been playing catch-up. Great interview.
This interview is fantastic from both ends questions and respoonses. I own OYSTER BAY HOTEL in GHANA; from where the trip to the castle originates. FANTASTIC WORK!!!
A brave man just we need you to do one thing that is the hystory about king Tewodros ll Ethiopian battle against england and thank you professor Haile gerima 💚💛❤️🙏
@TRESBELA but i think that that's what really exciting to me about DC, there's a lot of potential to make real changes and make DC's black & hispanic populations even more prosperous (w/o gentrification). So, I'd say DC is the place to be if you're interested in community issues.
Joel Powell, Hi you can find the DVD of Sankofa the movie on Amazon. Make sure you emphasize Sankofa the movie! There is an a book with the same the same title.
@TRESBELA i'd say there is a very strong black community here, definitely, and it's also a diverse black community, so there are the more capitalistically-minded black people here, but also the more earthy, wholistic folks (which is more where i lie on the spectrum) and everyone in between. there are a wealth of things to do to get involved in bettering your community (activism, volunteering, art, etc.). it's not perfect though, there is a lot of poverty here and systemic obstacles
