  • Presentation of a new type of aquaponics system that I name "Holistic Aquaponics".
This aquaponics system integrates a multitude of functions such as: a fish pond, a swimming pool, a garden, and a fish farm. it allows to produce food and experience swimming fish and deeply reconnect with nature.

Wow! You just built for yourself my dream system. I would have built a bigger pond though, where I could swim back and forth, as in a lapping pool with the added joy of swimming with the fishes.

It looks great Jonathan! Actually this is the type of system i have been planning, and it is one reason i have not built my system yet. But i also want to take it a step further and have no plastic at all. Still researching that. But your new pond looks great! And quite deep ! Thanks for all your excellent info. Success to you!

Wonderful system. It is the way to go. The only problem could be birds. Fish eating herons, egrets, etc would also like your pond. How will you keep them away?
I guess the depth would make it difficult for wading birds. I have seen egrets, herons and cormorants visit ponds in my backyard. The result is always no fish in the pond.

Excellent video. I have a very small pond (roughly 6’ wide and 18” deep). Yours looks amazing. Even my humble pond is very cool. People, especially kids, are drawn to it.
Another aspect of having a pond is that it very quickly becomes a critical part of the habitat for many birds and land animals. I frequently see animals of all varieties coming to take a bath or a drink.
But you, my friend, are a little crazy. Snorkeling in your fish pond? OK, I get it. Cool!

I dream of doing this, someday! I want to raise jade perch or murray cod, but it will depend on where I am living, as to whether the climate will suit either of these species. Worst comes to worst, I will have my pond in a greenhouse and heat if there are cold winters or under shade if it is a tropical climate.

Interested to see how you do this, I already have a pond and thought what a great idea but going on some other forums they seemed to dismiss it as any nutrients from the fish would be used up by algae or plants in the pond.

Yes sure, but it's a question of density and probability. No home grown food is 100% safe but it's nutritious and healthy :)

Ahaa! Fisrt Melbourne is not that warm during 9 months of the year. Hence, most aquaponics enthousiast harvest them just before summer.
Myself I have a few tricks to keep them all year round. Here are 2 of them:
      1. in-ground ponds are a big bonus since the ground balance the water temperature
      2. avoid full sun for the pond

@@jonathanmartinetto2344 Thanks for the info. Enjoyed the video. Golden trout are the state fish of California I believe, if they are the same species in the Sierra Nevada as yours. My pond is deep and shaded part of the day, and I like the multiple use idea. Bluegills or Crappies might be a more practical choice for this area, idk. They are in all the lakes here. Well, brown and rainbow trout are stocked too.

I am applying for a Grant for youth and farmer/ranchers, so that I can build a system raising trout, include vermicomposting and utilizing rabbits to teach youth and children the beauty of raising and producing food, swimming fish, and reconnecting them with nature especially in underserved communities where they have no connection with opportunities like this learning the aquatic systems. I love trout would love to incorporate fresh water clams and shrimp as well. I love your holistic approach in addition I love your approach to the aesthetic piece.
