Found OMEGA WATCH buried in STONE for 25 YEARS

  • This watch was found by a concrete skatepark builder named Chris and sent into the channel by John the owner of the company. Is it real, is it quartz? Will it work again?
    I am always intrigued by the restoration channels on RUclips seemingly finding buried items and with a little wash they come up new again, will this come up like new again after being buried in stone for 25 years?
    Let's find out.

    The reason why this watch didn’t turn out looking brand new like those other RUclips videos is because you forgot to use that special mayonnaise that they use on the dials. It always seems to work. Lol. Great video mate

    Hey Vince! Watchmaker here to comment on one of your watch videos as usual!
    The part you needed to remove after taking the case back off is an anti-magnetic dust cover. I think it took some of the movement with it on removal! As you say at the end, This watch uses an Omega calibre 1538 quartz movement. At about the 13 minute mark you're scratching around on the dial side of the movement - you're chipping teeth off the hour corrector wheel. It's based on the ETA calibre 255.461, though the hand height is different between the Omega and non-Omega version. That means if you try to fit the standard ETA you'll likely have trouble with hand clearance.
    These are nice movements to work on and they're fully serviceable, though in this instance it's a little bit beyond a service..! The cases and bracelets can also generally be refinished to a good standard.
    Great video as ever, cheers! 👍

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  Год назад +2

      Good job I didn't get the ETA version then, cheers for letting me know as I was very close to buying all the parts just for a successful outcome for the video, but luckily I came to my senses. Nice one Howlin Dan 👍

    Acid dissolves cement or concrete. My dad dissolved hardened concrete splashes from his new car with sulphuric acid (battery acid) - no trace of a mark afterwards. I believe hydrochloric or acetic (vinegar) would also work. A vinegar bath also worked a treat on some WW2 metalwork that had been in the sea and had barnicles covering it.

    I have LCD game from 1983, which was forgotten in my parents cold storage for 25 years, inside it's box though, but it had to survive freezing cold temperatures in winters and hot summers. I was amazed that it survived intact and started right up, just needed cleaning and bending one of the battery power tabs, as there was minor contact problem. Luckily I had removed the battery before putting it in storage.

    No wonder 🤔he didn’t get working. He didn’t even dunk it in a small tote with a bit of magical restoration water in it.😳

    Do you have a Sonic Cleaning Machine? I think that would help with less “elbow grease.”

    No warranty? Besides that, a mild acid, like when you clean grout on tiles?

    Now just need a new cristal, movement, dial, hands and you’ll finish this restoring.
    Will be expensive but would be a unique watch with a history

    Love the skit at the start - priceless!! But regarding your poor kitchen floor, I have to ask one question; do you have a shed where you can do messy stuff and put things in a vice? I personally hope not, as you building one, is the next series I want to see!
