- Today we have something very, very special on the bench; a solid gold 1941 Omega 33.3 chronograph reference CK 2393. This is a high value collectors item in fantastic condition and it's the first time one has been serviced on RUclips.
Join Stian for a full service of this fantastic watch and a deep dive into horological history as we discuss how chronographs conceptually work and try to pronounce some pretty difficult French and German names in the process!

Gorgeous. Well done mate. You deserve more subscribers. Love to you and yours
Thanks a lot, Joe, much appreciated :) Love your channel! My best to you, Trouble and the rest of the family 🤗
@nekkidwatchmaker I love your channel and @wristwatchrevival. Now I have three to watch, I mean view. All three of you seem kind and I learn so much from these videos. It’s almost like free apprenticeship!
Coming from you is class.
I watch your videos just a much as his, and I love both the skills and sense of humor you both have! ❤️
@@VintageWatchServices More up-close of your delicious nose hair would get you to that 1M subscriber mark in no time.
I have never encountered this model of watch before. It is truly one of the most impressive and beautiful watches I've ever seen! Great video Stian. Thanks a million for sharing.
Glad you like it, Martin!
Now that you saw a 33.3 you'll see them everywhere.
It's honestly the most beautiful example I ever saw tho
Another great video. Doesn't it make you nervous working on a $60K watch?
Yep, it does 😁
Another enjoyable video. Unfortunately I to was made in 1941. Like the watch I to am a bit stained and dirty. I am now looking for somebody to fit me with a new main spring. All the very best. Mick🇬🇧
If you're comparable to this one you're doing alright, Mick! 😊💪
This watch is beautiful. I would love to buy a modern remake.. a very poor man’s version(unfortunately). I’ve wanted to get into watch making and restoration, I just shake to much. I could look at the inside of witches like this for hours. This is a watch face I wouldn’t mind covering the beautiful movement, even the case would get a pass. I would normally prefer a clear back to be able see the inside but I don’t think I would want to change a thing about this piece.
Check out the Tissot telemeter 1938 chronograph! It kinda has a similar dial
Intermediate wheel keeps the hands turning the correct direction :)
😁👍
What an impressive time piece, definitely not your "run of the mill" service. Great work!
Thank you very much, Andy!
What an absolute beauty ! I'm forever amazed at your skills plus the knowledge bestowed upon us i find really interesting historically & otherwise , then there's the " Stian humour " gets me every time unawares . Truly one of the best channels out there and the perfect unwind (no pun intended )👌.
Thanks so much, Ted 😊👍
What a magnificent timepiece! Looking great for 80 years old too.
I have to admit I always find the slow-mo shots of case parts going into cleaning fluids in the videos extremely fun and satisfying.
Very cool to see you repping the BHI coat too.
Ps. I think the neighbours' dog is a big fan of Casios.
😂👍
Hope I look that good when I am 80yrs old.😂
@@Isabel-nj2fp Don't we all 😂
Gorgeous well kept watch! Not bad for an 80 year old. Again another perfect video Stian! Love the tube adjusting tool... So much better than using small jaws to adjust!
"That will come in handy, even if I never use it" - Watchmaker perusing a tool catalogue (probably)....
Spoken like a true watchmaker! 😂
May your apron be ornate and your lodge prosperous. It’s a shame the hands are not Illuminati! 😁 great restoration 👍
It would be interesting to know how to use all the different scales.
Yep, I'm sure there's some info on that on some forums or such
GREAT VIDEO,,,,THANKS,,,,,GREAT LOOKING WATCH !!
Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling finger cots!!! "Use your Finger!" (Jackie Laugh)
You'd think that a scaled down vapor blasting unit would be available for watchmakers these days to clean the staining from the larger, less delicate parts.
It's fascinating and amazing how something incredibly complicated seems so easy on your hands. You are amazing. I love your channel. Thank you for sharing this content.
Thank you so much 😀
Wow what a beautiful Omega. A watch this amazing I would keep original too..
As you said, (and I am a fan of your cynicism and sarcasm...very Swiss) you are almost 82 years old. Wow! I hope I can be as productive as you, in 14 years when I get THERE. Kudos!
very essential step necessary for national integration. I support.
Buonasera,
Quando ti vedo lavorare mi incanto sei un grandissimo professionista complimenti
Mille grazie, Salvatore :)
Beautiful watch, beautiful work ! I didn’t realize Omega made chronographs in the 30’s. Sure glad you were able to find a replacement jewel at your local Swiss gas station.
Keep up the good work!
😁👍
Ooooooh. Cool chrono. This one looks fun.
dream watch, its just so beautiful:)
4:03 I’d imagine it’s not just losing screws but minimizing the danger of crossthreading with the wrong screw?
Absolutely!
That is one LOOKER.
That Bergeron hand tube crimper (part # 3010) is $699.99 USD. my crazy crow brain likes all the parts of a chronograph watch but the price of the crazy tools is ridiculous? The Porno-von-armbanduhr is just enough to get me by once a week or so...
😳 Is it really that expensive? I think I bought it for less than half of that, which I sort of regretted even at that price...
Beautiful watch!
I have a question though. My 1974 Tudor Prince Oysterdate was just serviced as the main spring gave out. They replaced a few parts with OEM Eta parts while servicing it. The watch keeps good time but will randomly stop, even if I had wound it 30-40 times. Sometimes when I wear it and mostly if I take it iff and let it sit for a bit. It never runs more than 3-4 hours once I take it off. It should have like 30 hrs or more reserve. Any educated guess before I take this watch back to be looked at again?
Thanks for watching! There are quite a few possible issues, but if it was just serviced this should of course not happen. Bring it back to them and ask them to fix it!
That's a wonderful watch. When I see all that staining inside, I always think that there might be a way to remove it, perhaps with organic solvent, vinegar or something. I assume the cleaning fluid is strong detergent so that's already been done. Is it truly going to resist anything short of sandpaper? I guess you can surmise that I tend to clean things that will not be seen, which I can't claim is a useful idea.
Hello Jozsef, I used some silver polish on the most stubborn areas but I also didn't want to go too aggressive on it given the owner's conservative views. I've used vinegar for surface rust but haven't tried it for this type of staining?
😎🇧🇻💯💯👍👍
More than a watch, it is a work of art that you have restored with mastery. I congratulate you for restoring such beautiful objects.
Very educational again, very entertaining too (and the gorgeous sounds of slow falling objects in the bubble bath as bonus). Thanks again Stian!
You missed a spot. 🤣 No you didn’t. Great job as always and an incredible watch.
😁👍
Magnificent machinery, indeed. I am impressed.
Also your knowledge is fantastic. Congratulations !
And your accent is funny. Some mixture of danish, german-swiss,m witch is real good, making sound loud & clear.
Thumbs-up my friend a thousand times. Just only wait for the next one.
Only RESPECT !!!
Thank you very much! 😊
Intermediate wheel to reverse direction or actually rectify the direction to clockwise.
Yep!
I like this one just like I like my woman, a little bit chunky! She’s a beauty and the service was awesome.
😁👍
Fabulous watch 👍 thanks for the excellent video
I haven't been subscribed to your channel for long but, this has to be the dirtiest watch I've seen you work on!!
It's been in there the a few decades for sure 😁
I like your commentary
Learned alot
Wow, that crown wheel is awesome! 😲 I've never seen one quite like that. "Sculpted" is the first word that comes to mind -- gorgeous manufacturing, especially for the 1940s. Excellent work as always Stian, thank you very much for bringing us along!
Yeah, that crown wheel... Mind-blowing that they made that 80 years ago...
Great work Stian as always.
80yrs. hmmm, I stopped being impressed with modern clockworks and gears when a few years back I saw a programme about the Antikythera mechanism, called The 2000yr old computer, it's about 2010yrs. now😁. The way they solved the problem of showing the moon's phasing without elliptical gears, very clever. Lot's about it on yt.
Also on yt, Mechanical Marvel's - Clockwork Dreams (BBC). 59:24sec. is also great viewing on all things cogs and cams, enjoy.
@@VintageWatchServices Hope you get the above message.👍
@@nudebaboon4874 I did, and yes, the Antikythera mechanism is very impressive :)

Cheers from Guam USA Stian! Do I win a prize for the first to notice the "Subliminal Message" @ 12:45 of the video? Maybe only your hardcore subscribers get the joke? Looking good and bushy my man! Great video of a fantastic time-piece. God Bless from the middle of the Pacific Ocean👍
😁👍 First to comment on it at least :)
@@VintageWatchServices Thanks brother! Have a great evening👍
Nice work and comments are really appreciated! Thanks a lot for sharing. May be I can take an advice from you if you have some time to answer ;-) I'm working on a GMT master 1974 and I need to relume the gmt hand but with no luminosity. I alerady have the traditionnal Gergeon kit but I was intending to replace luminous compound with some other powder to match the color. Any suggestion?
Hello Nicolas, nice watch you're working on! I simply use model paint for hands without lume. There are some nice kits with all kinds of colors you can get for a good price.
@@VintageWatchServices yes very pleasant to work on it! thank you for the advice. I will look at model paint to mix with lacquer. 🙏🏻
Nice Video! Very well serviced! Please bring me a customer who will pay 50k-60k for the short pushers version, I do have 5 on stock! This price level is far far away from any reality! To be honest even light years far away from reality. Even the long pushers 33.3 in very good condition (those version is way rarer) are not selling for more than maximum 25k-30k. Just sold one last week. This watch is a maximum 10k-13,5k watch.
Yeah, it wouldn't sell for 50-60k, that was a bit exaggerated :) But this is a gold watch and in this condition it would certainly be possible to sell it for some 30k.
What goes in your mind when you're working with these? Is it daunting?
Yes... But with some experience you start knowing what can cause damage and what will not. Still somewhat unnerving to work on these pieces...
Thank you dear Stian for this wonderful treat. My guess is that this watch must have been one of the last ones to have been built to these specifications as the war in Europe made it so much more difficult to find quality materials to build such marvels. Most watchmakers have told me that watches made in the 50s - when high quality materials were available again and precision technology had taken a leap - are simply the best, but this one is truly spectacular. And very, very beautiful.
Thanks so much! Yes, I'd agree that watches frem the 50s are more refined but the legacy of something like this makes it very cool to have on the bench :)
What an awesome watch-thank you (and Matt) for sharing.
I watch (excuse the wording) but I do engage on observing other crafts I just want to say on how I enjoy watching videos on people and their crafts. Thank You for sharing
That might be the most beautiful watch I've seen on this channel. The movement is just amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
@@VintageWatchServices I enjoy every video you make. I'm starting to buy the tools I need to start servicing mechanical watches as a hobby because of you. I lost my father in November and have his 1960 Bulova "President "E"" watch given to him for graduation by my grandparents that loses 3 to 5 minutes a day that I hope to restore and eventually pass on to my nephew. For what it's worth, you have been an inspiration.
@@kupariusa4202 That's very humbling, thanks for sharing 😊 I'm sorry for your loss and it sounds like a great project to restore your father's watch :) Watches are after all one of the few personal things most men wear
@@VintageWatchServices Watches are very personal. Thank you for teaching me what to do.
There’s no other word that watch is gorgeous
Wonderful watch and work!
Many thanks!
Beautiful watch. I'm a relatively new subscriber to this channel (and a couple other watch repair ones), and this is my favorite. A combination of cool watches, good video, explanations, and history, plus a healthy dose of "dad jokes" and humor make this channel a lot of fun.
Thanks a lot Mark, that's very nice to hear 😊
I would rather watch this than a Holywood movie any day. The video and narration are absolutely brilliant. This was an education for me. I'm so happy I found your channel.
😊👍
That was amazing. I have never seen this movement before. I thoroughly enjoyed this vid
Thank you very much!
FYI - I prefer Gorilla Duct Tape and Gorilla Super Glue!!!! LMAO!!!!! Another great video, thank you for sharing!
Great video Stian.. As usual, and thank you for the history lesson. Beautiful watch.
My pleasure, Adrian!
Thank you Stian for the video. Wow this is a beautiful watch. Agreed not to make an old watch look brand new, but sometimes patina is outright damage.
Not usually a huge fan of gold, but it really works here with that black dial. Looks lux not faux rich.
I don't care.
Looks like an Omega-badged Venus / Sea-Gull ST1901 chronograph....
That was one of the most beautiful watches i've ever seen... Awesome video again thank you sir❤❤
Thanks, Brian !
It must be a very satisfied, feeling to have the ability to service, such finely created mechanical mechanism...... Thank you... Very enjoyable *
Hello great video, I have a caliber like that, how can we see a vertical clutch on the channel?
One coming in a month or two.:)
@@VintageWatchServices Amazing, staying tune!
Sir, You are making me think about mechanics of watches. Now I understand the value of watch. My wife Bought me a Tommy Hilfiger which costs around 15 k INR. Kindly give me some tips to become a watch mechanic... I love this. Nice to see your beautiful work. I cant stop watching. Its midnight here. But it is so good to understand the mechanics.
you forgot to mention WHICH Loctite...i`m shocked, i tellya, shocked!
from germany, keep it up.
Does Tissot have a version of this watch?
Yep. Tissot, Omega and Lemania all made watches with this movement, and you can find Tissot ones in the four digits still.
As a Swiss trained and worked for a company that restores such watches i have to congratulate you🎉 excellent job. Well done sir... don't show so much of our trade secrets though 😊 Excellent and well done 👍👍👍
Wow, that is very high praise, thanks so much 😊
Every moment one of aesthetic pleasure. Even the shape of the escape-wheel bridge made me smile with joy and I wouldn't be able to tell You why. Your customer Matt is one lucky guy.
He is! And I'm lucky to be able to work on his watch 😊
Are your screwdrivers hollow ground, thanks for another great video
No. Watchmaker’s screwdrivers are almost universally flat ground which allows you to sharpen them easily with a whetstone.
Yep, they are hollow ground, or T-shaped. They're really excellent but require a special sharpening tool for the profile
Thanks I appreciate it
Absolutely gorgeous.
A beauty!
nice try "schweizerische uhrenindustrie": perfect, especially the "r"! but may remark that you ought to use a better microphone? the sound is very "bassy", too much of the low frequency band and too little of the "treble" frequencies. maybe too close to the mouth?!
but nevertheless very interesting. i would never know where to put all the tini the parts ....
that watch is stunning❗️
the 'Crown Wheel' is absolutely amazing,
no doubt‼️®️™️
It really is!
Absolutely beautiful! I tip my hat Sir.
Thanks, Nate!
Beautiful work!
I too think old things should look well maintained. I don't mind a new crystal, a lightly polished case etc. but it should have scratches and look loved and well used. Drunken sailors early in the morning for sure...
yes, I think I have a Timex that's made out of stamped sheet metal and duct tape, definitely not watchmaker friendly :-( !!!
Fantastic watch you did a very very good job I appreciate your video thanks 👍👍👍
Wow... it looks so much better than Paul Newman Daytona... wonder why it cost only a fraction of it.
14:22 I'm on their side, it's a bit weird to fully restore the looks from beat-up old stuff.
Most of the time I like when it works well and the aging looks most of the time, it's had a character and history in it. I feels more respected.
Omega did a modern reissue of this watch. It was again a beautiful watch, albeit a more affordable steel version. Great rebuild as usual.😮
Amazing🥰❤❤❤❤ clasik beautiful.

Awesome skills, great package humor....muscles, indeed!
Men these days wesr such big watches. Maybe they're over compensating for something. They just dont understand the beauty of these watches
Do the jewels come in Regular, Super and Super Premium?
Oh. Never mind.
Gorgeous watch but I don’t necessarily see myself paying the price that the market commands (not that I have that type of money lol.
I’m sure it’s rare and in great condition for the age but for me there are other vintage pieces I would prefer
THEO GREAT JOB AND GREAT VIDEO...SEE YOU WHEN...BEAUTIFUL WATCH...
That watch looks awesome. I wish I could afford a nice watch someday 😊
I admire your ability and the steadiness of your hands; surgical precision.
Please Stian, you don't have to remind us that we need jewels to fill up our gas tank these days... I know right gas stations have them, all over the world right now!!!
Cheers mate, another great video and narration on a marvelous piece. Thanks!
Thanks Stavros 😁👍

Hello Stian I am watching you on RUclips on my big TV and writing this along with you. As you do it on my phone.
Obviously you are a very skilled watchmaker. I have done one repair on a Omega speed master. I have been doing watches and clocks and continually watch your tutorials for updates and ways to improve
My skills with fear and trembling to sort out a problem with the keyless plates. Bent and and also the screws were wrong... 2 years later it is still going wonderfully. Thanks to you Stian I was able to look and learn and do the job. Thank you so much. Now I'm looking for a brass anti magnetic. Curled. Where is the better place to get watch maker tools.. may God show His kindness to you in Jesus name. In whom is eternal life.
That's very nice to hear and great you were able to work out the issues! 👍
Great job! Beautiful watch! Thanks for the video!
I particularly enjoyed hearing about some of the swiss manufacturers history whilst you worked on the watch. That in itself was a wonderful addition to your explaining the workings and reasoning of why you choose to do or don't do something when restoring the watch. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful job and beautiful watch! You got a new subscriber! Much love from the US 👏👏👏
Thanks for the sub!
